WISE'S STATEMENT In a statement explaining the reasons for his resignation as co- chairman of the Zionist Emer- gency Council, Dr. Stephen S. Wise said: "One week ago I resigned the office of chairman of the American Zionist Emergency Council. I did so because, as I stated in my letter of resig- nation, felt that it was im- possible for me to remain chairman of a body one of the leaders of which-the chair- man of the executive commit- tee-had deliberately and per- sistently contravened the de- cisions of the Council in a matter of supreme importance to the lasting hurt of our sacred cause.' "At Wednesday's nearly all- night session of the Emergency Council, the resignation was not acted upon, but a motion was passed inviting all the officers of the executive com- mittee to resign, in order that it might be free to act upon all res'inuations at th e same time. I believe a meeting is to be held in the near future. I could not return to the serv- ice of the Zionist Emergency Council unless the reconsti- tuting of the Council gave as- surance that no officer would again be permitted to contra- vene its considered and final decisions." GOLDSTEIN'S STATEMENT Dr. Goldstein charges in the statement that Dr. Silver had acted without authority when he wrote to Congressman Sol Bloom, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urging him to take prompt action in having his committee report out the Pales- tine resolution, Dr. Goldstein maintains that Dr. Silver acted despite it decision by the Emer- gency Council, alleged to have been made a week before, that before pressing the resolution it was necessary to secure an as- surance that the State Depart- ment would not raise objections against its passage at this time. WISE'S STATEMENT

In a statement explaining the reasons for his resignation as co-chairman of the Zionist Emer-gency Council, Dr. Stephen S. Wise said:

"One week ago I resigned the office of chairman of the American Zionist Emergency Council. I did so because, as I stated in my letter of resig-nation, felt that it was im-possible for me to remain chairman of a body one of the leaders of which-the chair-man of the executive commit-tee-had deliberately and per-sistently contravened the de-cisions of the Council in a matter of supreme importance to the lasting hurt of our sacred cause.'

"At Wednesday's nearly all-night session of the Emergency Council, the resignation was not acted upon, but a motion was passed inviting all the officers of the executive com-mittee to resign, in order that it might be free to act upon all res'inuations at th e same time. I believe a meeting is to be held in the near future. I could not return to the serv-ice of the Zionist Emergency Council unless the reconsti-

tuting of the Council gave as-surance that no officer would again be permitted to contra-vene its considered and final decisions."

GOLDSTEIN'S STATEMENT Dr. Goldstein charges in the

statement that Dr. Silver had acted without authority when he wrote to Congressman Sol Bloom, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urging him to take prompt action in having his committee report out the Pales-tine resolution, Dr. Goldstein maintains that Dr. Silver acted despite it decision by the Emer-gency Council, alleged to have been made a week before, that before pressing the resolution it was necessary to secure an as-surance that the State Depart-ment would not raise objections against its passage at this time.
