Create direct links to search results, documents

and more

You found a relevant document and want to share

it fast. Or, after viewing your search results, you’re not

sure how to proceed and would like some input.

Or maybe you want to show a new associate exactly

where to find sections of interest in the USCS.

Collaboration is a way of life for you. And now

collaborating on research can be quicker and easier

when you use Lexis Advance®. Work groups or study

groups can share documents and search results on

the fly. Post frequently used items to intranet pages.

And think of the time you can save if you don’t have

to re-run recurring searches.

The new Lexis Advance release now supports

permalinks to a full-text document, your search

results, a Shepard’s® report, a Folder or a TOC (table

of contents) source at Lexis Advance. Get a refreshed

picture every time you select a Permalink you create.

That means when you re-open a link for:

• full-text primary law documents: You get updated

Shepard’s Signal™ indicators.

• search results: The search is entered again and new

documents are added automatically. Plus the filters

you initially added are saved and re-applied.

• Shepard’s reports: You get the latest updates

to the report.

• TOC sources: See the exact location—down to the

subsections you opened or searched.

• Folders: You view the most current Folder version.

Find the permalink icon in the Actions pull-down menu

at the top of search results or full-text documents you

are viewing.

1. Select Link to this page. That’s all you need to do to

create the link. A dialog box displays.

2. Copy the link to paste it into work product or email.

Select Close to return to your results or document.

When you re-open a permalink, you must sign in to

Lexis Advance. If you are already signed in, a screen

notice asks if you want your current location to be

replaced with the link location.

Now you can move from practically any Lexis Advance screen to your

CourtLink® subscription in only one step.

Just select the pull-down menu next to research and select CourtLink.

Then you’re ready to sign in to CourtLink.

The Lexis Advance research history offers you many ways to filter and

analyze your 90-day history. (And there’s no search charge to return to

any search unlike WestlawNext®.)

At the Lexis Advance history screen, you can filter your history by client

matter, date or date range and research type, that is, you can find emails

sent, TOCs viewed, documents retrieved, legal searches and more. You can

even search for specific words in your history entries.

Now you can also filter your Research History by where the search

originated, e.g., Lexis Advance (research), LexisNexis® Verdict & Settlement

Analyzer, LexisNexis® Litigation Profile Suite, Lexis Practice Advisor® or

LexisNexis MedMal Navigator®.

Now it’s even easier to share Folder information—and keep track of who you’re sharing information with.

Share Folder items faster. (Just choose the Folder item and select the Share icon at the top of the screen.)

And each Folder item now shows who you are sharing with and if they have accepted your sharing invitation.

(This quick-glance format is now similar to your Alerts review screens.)

One more thing: when you’re using Folders via your tablet or smartphone, you can now create subfolders.

Searching legislative history documents at

Lexis Advance

While available as PDFs, the legislative history sources

just added to Lexis Advance can be searched

due to controlled vocabulary subject indexing, bill

and publication number indexing and extensive

bibliographic information.

Full-text PDFs can be emailed or downloaded without

losing their full functionality. For some legislative

history sources, you have the option to download large

documents as one PDF and as 50-page “chunks.” Plus

the PDFs are optimized to compress the content into

packages.

NOTE: Because the documents in this resource display

in PDF, search terms within each PDF document will not

be highlighted.

So we’re continually enhancing the Lexis Advance® features and adding tools to help you spend less time finding and more time using the valuable information you uncover. here’s what’s new:

Researching specific sources?

Now get more filtering choices

You know the source you need to review or research.

At Lexis Advance® those are easy tasks to perform:

1. Select Browse from the black “Experience Bar”

banner at the top of any Lexis Advance screen.

2. Choose Browse then Sources. Enter a source name

in the search box and click the magnifying glass

icon.

3. Click the pull-down arrow next to the title and select

Get Documents. You can also search the source

(Add the source as a search filter) or create a

publication Alert.

Now you get more filter options when you retrieve

source documents or search a source. View and use

the Timeline filter. See coverage patterns at a glance.

home in on a specific date range or date. Just enter

dates or slide the pointers and click OK. Also view the

citations of the Most Cited authority—and move to

the documents that cite to them. (Not available in all

content types, e.g., news.) Just select a cite link.

Now when you select certain group content types in your search results,

e.g., Statutes & Legislation, you have the option, available in your settings,

to display the most-used content category, e.g., codes. In other words:

When you view:

This content category displays first:

• Codes

You save a filtering step—and get to needed documents faster.
