Victor’s vision: Future of

LF Bangladesh

Honorary Chairman Victor Fung recently hosted an LF

Bangladesh townhall where he shared his views and vision.

“Bangladesh is the third largest manufacturer of apparel for Li

& Fung and is a vital part of our global network,” said Victor

“We have a long-standing history here in terms of our

business, factories, the government and business community

and we see big potential for the future growth of our

businesses.”

Over 550 colleagues from LF Bangladesh attended.

Executive Director of Government & Public Affairs,

Rick Darling, also attended as a special guest of honor.

The townhall was a unique opportunity for our colleagues to

ask Victor about our company in a Q&A session. A prime

topic of discussion for a number of our colleagues in

Bangladesh was the company’s objective of building a

sustainable business.

The townhall was a unique

opportunity for our colleagues to

ask Victor about our company in a

Q&A session. A prime topic of

discussion for a number of our

colleagues in Bangladesh was the

company’s objective of building a

sustainable business.

“There is no bigger commitment for

the company than improving

standards of the factories we work

with. We look to our factories as

strategic partners, not just where

we place orders,” said Victor who

emphasized that this is a key

initiative for the entire group.

“William Fung has created Vendor

Support Services (VSS), a new

division that will help our factory

partners improve the way they

work and manage worker safety

and conditions. Bangladesh is a very

important location where we are

learning and developing VSS, where

we’re learning how to build quality

long-term partnerships with

factories and develop out our VSS

concept,” he added.

Victor then elaborated on our company’s

focus: “Li & Fung has grown significantly

and rapidly over the years and when that

happens in a big company you can become

bureaucratic. Right now, we are working on

consolidation and focusing on organic

growth. We want to cut the bureaucracy

and make sure that we are doing things in a

simple manner to improve efficiency and

not overwork ourselves with internal

matters. We are undergoing major

overhauls of our systems and the way we

do business.”

The session closed with Victor’s vision for the future of LF Bangladesh.

“The next stage for us in Bangladesh in terms of the industry and our production

here is very hopeful. A lot of production is migrating outside of China and will divert into

Bangladesh and eventually we’ll see a vertical integration of fabric production here.

Bangladesh has contributed a lot to our business, and Li & Fung and the Fung

family are personally committed to the future of this country.” Thank you Victor for such wonderful insight into our business in Bangladesh!

On 13 August 2014, our Li

& Fung colleagues in

Bangladesh came

together wearing blue

and pledging to clean-up

our world. Bangladesh,

along with 23 other

countries, participated in

the first ever global Dress

Blue Day, which helped

raise awareness amongst

our colleagues about

how the choices we

make as individuals and

as a company can help

shape the world’s

environment. Our

colleagues made a point

to learn more about how

they can make a

difference and help our

environment.

The morning of 17 October 2014 at

Bangladesh office started with

Pinkness everywhere as the day was

celebrated with Pink mode by LFBD

colleagues on the occasion of World’s

Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Most

of the colleagues dressed up in pink to

symbolize the awareness. Experts from

a local hospital organized an awareness

session for Bangladesh colleagues on

breast cancer and the remedies to

avoid such deadly disease.

celebrated as Movember to raise awareness

for Men’s Prostate Cancer and other

healthy life styles to live a healthy life. Mo-

Bro and Mo-Sista were selected among the

colleagues to symbolize the awareness and

importance of this campaign.

On 25 November, our colleagues invited a

team of experts from Dhaka’s Apollo

Hospital gave a health talk on prostate

cancer, followed by a Q&A session. Around

100 colleagues from different business

streams attended this talk. After the

session, participants pledged to look after

their health and share their knowledge with

In keeping with the theme of Li & Fung employee engagement initiatives and considering fostering a

healthy work environment, LFBD arranged two Cricket Tournaments, one table tennis and one carom

board tournaments in 2014.

ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES

Though the LF Premiere League (LPL) started well before the inter-buying house tournament, it was

delayed a bit to finish the latter. In continuation of the previous trend, 3 times winner OSG team along

with VC colleagues, LF Red, made it to the final but they lost the trophy to the brilliant performer, LF

Blues, comprising colleagues from LF Sourcing.

The inter-Buying house cricket tournament started back in November with a kick off

win by LF over El Corte Ingles. For the first time, LFBD made it to the final where

clash of the titans took place. LF faced their fiercest competitor, H&M, at the final.

With a heart pounding battle, LF could not make it to win the trophy but left a

message that we can face anyone in the battlefield. The tournament was a great

way to increase conversations between buying offices; gain valuable market

knowledge and increase our contact list. LF’s plucky batsmen, bowlers and fielders

defended our honor on the pitch pretty well, too!

The table tennis

tournament also got a

new flavor as one of

the longest going

tournaments so far.

Md. Abul Hassan

Chowdhury Titu (TBD)

and Arifur Rahman

(FnA) emerged as

victorious in doubles

while Titu also stood

victorious in singles.

The other exciting

game, Carom Board,

also saw fierce

competition where

Jahangir Alam &

Mustafijur Rahman

(LFJS) claimed the

trophy as Champions

in doubles. Mizanour

Rahman Sujon (CSA)

claimed the title for

singles champion for

this year Carom

tournament.

Aligned with our commitment

to enhance our colleagues’

health and well-being in the

workplace, the LF Bangladesh

office recently hosted a series

of workshops focused on

relieving stress, finding inner

peace and feeling energized

through breathing exercises,

yoga and meditation.

The team invited an

educational and humanitarian

organization, Art of Living

Foundation, for a preliminary

session that focused on stress-

busting techniques in July.

The Art of Living Foundation’s

programs are guided by the

philosophy of peace. “Unless

we have a stress-free mind

and society that is not power-

hungry and violent, we cannot

achieve harmonious and

peaceful lives,” instructor

Sajeev Menon said.

When a slick sports agent, Jerry Maguire (Tom

Cruise), has a crisis of conscience, he pens a heartfelt

company-wide memo that promptly gets him fired.

Desperate to hang on to athletes he represents (his customers),

Jerry starts his own agency, with only single mother Dorothy Boyd

(Renee Zellweger) joining him in his new venture.

Banking on their sole client, football player Rod Tidwell (Cuba

Gooding Jr.), Jerry and Dorothy begin to fall in love as they struggle

to make their agency business work.

STORY

Recently I’ve seen Jerry

Maguire. After watching it

again I’d say, this movie is

about hope, redemption,

love, and finding out the

meaning of life.

My favorite quote in this movie is

“Help me, help you”. It is

absolutely true. If anybody can’t

help himself, nobody can.

Jerry uses a new motto, "Less clients,

less money, more care" and finishes

with the teaching that, “Happiness is

true when it is shared”

“Jerry Maguire is a movie about agents, and all our colleagues in LF Sourcing are agents like Jerry

Maguire. All OSG staff watched this movie to better understand LF Sourcing’s world.”
