Rok 1833 dal světu takové velikány, jakými byli například Alfred Nobel nebo Johannes Brahms. V tomtéž roce si ale švý-carský hodinář Antoine LeCoultre (poté, co o několik let dříve sestrojil jedinečný stroj na výrobu pastorků a ozubených kol, tzv. odvalovačku) založil vlastní dílnu. Tak započala 175letá historie manufaktury Jaeger LeCoultre.Tehdy třicetiletý Antoine LeCoultre s vyna-lézáním nepřestal, právě naopak. Za dalších jedenáct let představil svůj nový triumf jmé-nem milionometr – převratný a ve své době nejpreciznější strojek, schopný změřit mik-ron. Jen díky němu později došlo k přechodu celého hodinářského průmyslu na metrický systém. Když Antoine zemřel, manufaktura LeCoultre už zaměstnávala okolo pěti set hodinářů, techniků a designérů. A rodinný podnik díky jeho potomkům dál vzkvétal.Na počátku 20. století došlo díky vnukovi zakladatele, Jacquesovi Davidovi LeCoultre, k navázání partnerství s francouzským hodi-nářem Edmondem Jaegerem. U příležitosti pozo-ruhodného výročí je v muzeu manufaktury ve Vallée de Joux instalována expozice největ-ších a nejkrásnějších milníků historie Jaeger LeCoultre. Dvousté výročí bude zajisté ještě slavnější – jen od roku 2000 totiž manufak-tura vytvořila přes padesát nových kalibrů...

Several years earlier, LeCoultre had created a unique cutting machi-ne for the production of pinions and cogwheels, but it was the new production premises that heralded the beginning of Jaeger LeCoultre's 175-year history. Not that this implied that the then 30 year-old LeCoultre had become tired of inventing. Quite the reverse was true. The next 11 years saw him achieve another triumph, the millionometer, a revolutionary device of then unparalleled accuracy capable of measuring a micron. Thanks entirely to this development, the entire watchmaking industry switched to the metric system. By LeCoultre’s death, the firm already employed around five hundred watchmakers, technicians and designers. His heirs subsequently ensured the family business continued to thrive.As the 20th century dawned, Jacques David LeCoultre, the founder's grandson, formed a partnership with French watchmaker Edmond Jaeger, initiating the Jaeger LeCoultre era. At present, Jaeger LeCoultre possesses more than three hundred patents. In its lengthy existence, it has created over one thousand different calibres. Of all its legendary models, let’s at least mention Reverso, Duoplan, Master Control, Memovox Polaris, Gyrotourbillon 1 and the Atmos table clock. On the occasion of this eminent jubilee, the company museum in Vallée de Joux organised an exhibition on Jaeger LeCoultre’s greatest historical milestones.
