objective: the project was referred to as the "dynamic wall module". the goal was to contribute to the making, creation, + function of a space through the use of a modular wall system. examples of constraints included sunlight control, shading control, privacy control, view control, + thermal control. requirements included detail drawings, sections, axonometric views, + a model built to scale.

concept: the driving concept behind the design was inspired by the way rain droplets sit on transparent surfaces. the properties of water manipulate the light passing through, causing refraction + reflection, while also creating interesting shadows + patterns. this wall module focused on the design that the water creates when light passes through the glass orbs + onto various surfaces.

hotel lobby + desk designobjective: the hotel is located in seattle, washington + the design of the lobby was centrally focused around the shape + design of the reception desk. knowledge of all of the details + the overall construction of the desk had to be considered. a physical model of the desk had to be produced with accurate representation of how the desk would be made. after the desk was designed, the rest of the lobby was brought into play and the materials were used in the rest of the space.

concept: the lobby is inside a high rise residential building located near downtown seattle, washington. it is a few blocks away from the pike place market, a big tourist attraction + open air fish market. inspiration for the lobby was drawn from the market, + the shape + materials chosen for the desk were loosely interpreted from washington's state fish, the rainbow trout.

blacksburg children's museum

objective: this is the first group project the studio worked on, + from start to finish we were given two + a half weeks to design the new museum. the museum is located in downtown blacksburg + still relatively new. the clients were looking to update their current children's museum + make it more educational + to create a bonding space for adults + their children. the space was to include educational + entertaining spaces for children ranging from six month olds to twelve year olds, but to also allow room for parents to learn about how their children learn + interact.

concept: our group of three developed the concept together after doing thorough research on educational play with children. we wanted to create an environment for children to learn through immersive, hands-on experience that inspires + encourages curiosity. the space focuses on creating interactive transitions that reference the collaboration of overlapping disciplines.

light cubeobjective: the prompt was simple + stated to design and create a functional lamp.

concept: while exploring light’s interaction with acrylic, i noticed that light travels through the thin side of acrylic in a way similar to that of fiber optics. after a few iterations of various light sources + various shapes of acrylic, the lamp was finalized. it is centered around acrylics ability to reflect light + distribute it in an idiosyncratic way. this idea was emphasized + achieved by using both horizontal planes of acrylic + then placing vertical strips of acrylic into those horizontal pieces. LED light strips were used inside the lamp due to their higher color temperature + higher color rendering index, which complimented the transparency of the acrylic.

aisthesis spaobjective: the spa is located inside a building that doubled as a boating showroom + a storage warehouse in riva san vitale, switzerland. field measurements were taken to ensure accurate results. challenges included inconsistency with window sizes + heights, concrete trusses, + the overall narrowness of the structure.

concept: the spa focuses on four out of five of the human senses: sight, touch, smell, + sound. the fifth sense, taste, was excluded to prevent visitors from drinking the spa water. there are a total of five pools, one was the basis of your experience, + the other four were designed to make you hyper-aware of your senses + body. the smell pool was infused with edelweiss, local flower of switzerland. the touch pool had water that was set to five degrees warmer than the rest + had large stones on the floor that massaged your feet as you walked. the sight pool was dark, with the exception being the small holes punched through the ceiling. the sound pool had a ceiling that was designed with tiles set loosely into a frame, + as visitors walked over these tiles they shifted in their frames creating an echo in the room below.
