Nearly all of the focus this week was in getting the roof sheathed and all closed
in and the building weather tight. While the weather has not really cooperated,
the framing crew has been working as hard as they can to get the roof done
before the snow really gets started.
There has been a lot of pretty serious wind and rain over the past week which
impacted the crew. They had planned to work last Saturday, but the 3 inches
of rain that fell, washed them out. They came in on Sunday and worked in 45
MPH gusts, manhandling the valley trusses into position so that they could be
sheathed on Monday. I can only imagine how difficult it was for them working
up so high in that wind. I was unaware that they were working over the
weekend and do not have pictures of the valley trusses being placed. Thanks
to Phi and the framing crew, we are back on schedule and possibly a little
ahead of schedule (I never said that). Once the sheathing has been inspected
to ensure that it has been properly nailed in place, we should start seeing the
Tyvek vapor barrier going on the building soon,
The concrete floor is still scheduled to be poured on December 30th. As always
this is weather dependent and could be pushed back. However Phi is eager to
get this done by the end of 2019 and are doing everything they can to make it
happen.
While a lot has been going on with the exterior of the Building Phi has been
very busy finalizing all of the moving pieces for the interior spaces of the
building. Deliveries of the heating and mechanical equipment have started
already. Windows are expected on 12-23-19, doors are expected on 12-30-19
and the round window that goes in over the main entrance, is due in on
January 2nd. While delivered, windows are not planned to be installed until the
weather begins to break in the spring. Hopefully spring comes before July 4th.
The building committee has been meeting picking paint colors, carpet and
interior design features.

The illustration below is the architectural “perspective” rendering of the view of
the library from Russell Ave. in this view you can see the reconstructed
intersection. Russell Ave currently runs very close to the front of the deck
support columns and the traffic island at the intersection of Central, Union,
Limerock and Russell is approximately at the top end of the sidewalk in the
lower left of the illustration. I am not going to attempt to draw these in … I
know my limits.
The illustration below is the is the architectural “perspective” rendering of the
view of the library from Memorial Park. Of course, both of these views show
mature trees that are not in place and are for illustrative purposes.

These perspectives while accurately depicting the building itself from the
drawings, may not be 100% accurate, when it comes to the depictions of the
surrounding buildings. These depictions are based on the architects best
estimate of the sizes of the surrounding structures, as they were not surveyed
and measured. They are meant for illustrative purposes. You can see the scale
model of the building that was built by Camden Model maker Robert Eddy well
known for his accurate depictions of boats.
The picture below shows the view of the building from Russell Ave. with the
roof sheathing started but the valley trusses not yet in place. The truss caps
have been installed.

Below is another picture of the same view after the valley trusses have been
installed and most of the sheathing installed. This view you are looking in
through the area that is the home to the book stacks. This area has the higher
“cathedral” ceiling that really opens up that space. While the pole in the corner
of the picture will remain, the wires will be rerouted and put underground.
The photo below is a view of the building taken from Central Street in the
vicinity of 18 Central Street.
