As the oldest law library in Kansas, the Wheat Law
Library is an integral part of the School of Law. It
serves the law school and university community in legal
and interdisciplinary scholarly pursuits and provides
attorneys, judges, and the general public with access to
legal information. Key components of this mission in-
clude collecting and preserving Kansas, national, and
international legal documents, teaching legal information
literacy, and serving as a legal information gateway by
providing access to sources beyond the scope of the physi-
cal collection.

r The fall semester is always
busy but this one in particular
has whizzed by with a flurry of
new and traditional activities.
Homecoming weekend was busy
with numerous activities includ-
ing an open house, a Biolaw Con-
ference and alumni events. Law
students are already hunkering
down, studying in their carrels as
they prepare for their first set of
law exams or put the finishing
touches on a course outline. Two
new faculty joined the law school,
Virginia Harper Ho and Lu Mulli-
gan, which means librarians have
discovered new resources to help
support their research and teach-
ing needs through the primary
library contact service. New staff,
Kelly Bevins, Library Assistant,
and Michael Oehlert, Technology
Support Technician, both hit the
ground running as we had pro-
jects, circulation shifts and tasks
awaiting their arrival. Many of us
cannot figure out where the se-
mester has gone. Recently in a
brief conversation with a refer-
ence student assistant we dis-
cussed how he was already enrol-
ling for next semester’s classes.
He and I noted that by the time
you get comfortable with the se-
mester, it is all over. When this
semester ends we will be closer
to selecting a new dean of the law
school and a new associate direc-
tor of the law library. The library
is a great place to study and pre-
pare for class. But I also hope
people find it a place to
catch your breath, pause,
relax and get away from the
hustle and bustle of the law
school’s busy activities.
See you in the library!

rights are passed to the winning team. A prize is
also awarded for the most spirited team.
