Why?
Published research results
are a starting point of new
ideas and research.
Not to repeat what has
already been done.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
Why searching for information and research literature analysis are necessary?
Isaac Newton, Letter to Robert Hooke, February 5, 1675

Predatory or highjacked journals
Predatory Journals present themselves as ranking higher than they are in fact;
they seek profit.
Hijacked Journals have stolen the identity of other journals. Their aim is also
profit.
Predatory or highjacked journals
Criteria for identifying predatory journals (e.g., http://www.researchjournali.com/):
Imitation of real publishers’ behaviour.
Very quick process of review.
Only electronic contacts provided but not the publisher’s address.
Grammar mistakes on the website text.
Editorial boards consist of scholars who have not given consent to be editorial
board members.
Indexing strange directories and databases.
Support for the authors

Exemplar,
http://www.springerexemplar.com (trial version) gives
you an opportunity to check if specific words and
phrases are used in academic texts.
Reference management tools
Paid (subscribed at the moment):
RefWorks, http://www.refworks.com (group
code RWLithMBA)
EndNoteWeb, http://myendnoteweb.com
(register from the university computer
network)
Free of charge:

Citeulike, http://www.citeulike.org/
Delicious, http://del.icio.us/
Opportunities:
Saving bibliographic data, summaries
and files. Many databases allow direct
transfer of bibliographic data;
Organizing your list of references in
line with a particular citation style;
By using the Word plugin, inserting
references into the text and creating a
list of references.
Copyright and plagiarism
Plagiarism is using other authors’ ideas, opinions,
theories as your own or paraphrasing without a
proper acknowledgement of the source.
Prevention:
Using special tools to check for plagiarism: e.g.
iThenticate CrossCheck;
Storing research publications on open access
repositories that check for plagiarism automatically.
Note: incorrectly cited references may be considered
plagiarism.
“Submission of an article
implies that the work
described has not been
published previously (except
in the form of an abstract or
as part of a published lecture
or academic thesis or as an
electronic preprint, see
http://www.elsevier.com/posti
ngpolicy),
... To verify originality, your
article may be checked by
the originality detection
service CrossCheck
http://www.elsevier.com/edito
rs/plagdetect.“
“
„
Self-citation and self-reference
Avoiding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and other questionable writing practices:
e.g., A Guide to Ethical Writing by Miguel Roig, http://ori.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/plagiarism.pdf
“The available literature on self-plagiarism is concerned with four major
problems: The publication of what is essentially the same paper in more
than one journal, but without any indication that the paper has been
published elsewhere (i.e., redundant and duplicate publication), the
partitioning of a large study which should have been reported in a single
paper into smaller published studies (i.e., salami-slicing), copyright
infringement, and the practice of text recycling.”
““
Citation styles
Citation styles:
APA is used in Psychology, Educational Science and other Social Sciences;
MLA tends to be used in Humanities;
AMA is used in Medicine, Health Sciences and Biology;
Chicago style is a multidisciplinary citation style;
Vancouver style is used in Biomedical Sciences.
ISO 690:2010 standard,
