All the buildings on the IPBeja Campus are located in a single space, close to the district hospital, serviced by public transport, and perfectly integrated into the city’s urban grid. The campus stands out due to the quality of the well maintained green spaces and the sports grounds, in which buildings of the four schools are located; the modern buildings of the residences for students, professors and visiting teachers, with a capacity for 203 users, the two “common services” buildings, housing the library, the canteen, an auditorium and a set of other support services to the academic activities. In addition to the facilities located on campus, IPBeja has an agricultural holding, with hundreds of hectares, where the students have the opportunity to obtain hands on experience with agricultural production and experimentation.

OBJECTIVES AND METHODOLOGIESBecause of the diversity of activities in Arts and Multimedia that an artist or creator could work with, we opted for a generalist study plan in the field of fine arts, with a profile-oriented specialty in Multimedia. In professional terms, this profile corresponds to the Multimedia Artist that develops his or her activities in the fields of artistic creation, artistic media marketing and pub-lishing, public art, urban art, theatre, television and cultural action. Included in the Arts/Multimedia are: artistic production, research, management, administration and coordi-nation in multidisciplinary teams, in technological or artistic studies; participation in the implementation of cultural activities; collaboration in museums and artistic heritage related activities. With regard to the academic training goals for this job profile, eminently practical train-ing of graduates and experimentation in this area must be based on the theoretical knowledge available about the mechanics of artistic thinking and its complexity and semantics. This complexity can be approached from different but complementary theo-retical perspectives: the aspects of syntax (related to the analysis of form, use of ma-terials, techniques, procedures and means of expression) and the pragmatic aspects (related to the study of the contexts, functions, conventions, cultural, sociological, cog-nitive and emotional aspects of aesthetic experience).

BACHELOR’S DEGREE INTOURISM

CAREER OPPORTUNITIESConsulting and management of cultural and natural heritage;Setting up and management of tourism businesses;Event / tourist activity planning, organisation and management;Design and management of tourist products;Several functions in public sector organisations. The Degree’s assessment reports attest a high employment rate of ESTIG’s Tourism graduates.

OBJECTIVES AND METHODOLOGIESThe Tourism Degree is based in ESTIG – IPBeja’s Technology and Management School. It is a well-established degree, as it has been running for 20 years now. During this period, several curricular changes were made to adapt it to broader social, economic and also cultural/aca-demic changes, and to the evolution of Portuguese tourism. In 2006/2007 the degree was adapted to the Bologna process. Its core subject area is ‘Tourism and Leisure’. It has a total of 180 credits and it is organised in five semesters and two trimesters. The Degree’s curriculum provides a fairly broad education, although its profile is oriented to the area of tourist prod-ucts and activities. Moreover, several course units focus on the setting up of a business. The Tourism Degree also puts a premium on practical and applied knowledge: this goal is pursued in several course units, such as Professional Practice and Events and Protocol, and through the organisation of multiple field/study trips, participation in and organisation of seminars, conferences and other events, hosted either by IPBeja or by external public or private-sector organisations, contact with tourism-related IT software and ‘enterprise-classes’ – classes with the participation of a wide range of entrepreneurs or public sector’s senior staff. The internship/work placement is another important component of ESTIG’s Tourism Degree and it has the main goal of establishing an effective relationship with public bodies and private sector businesses related to the tourism sector, thus enabling students to apply and further the knowledge and skills they acquired throughout the degree. In 2013, the Tourism Degree was fully accredited for a 6-year period by A3ES, the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education.
