Objective: Effectively utitlize the fundamentals of Adobe Photo-
shop as well as the fundamentals of photography.
Description: The scenario given for this project is that Im apply-
ing for a job at a photography studio and I need to demonstrate
good photography and image editing skills. Another aspect ofthe assignment is that I have to desaturate a part of the image
and add a filter or colorization to another part of the image to
make it stand out.
Process: The first thing I did for the project was rent a camera
and go outside to shoot some photos. I picked a good time of
the day, it wasnt too bright outside. I had to size the image and
crop it, making sure that it was 66 inches. After this, I desatu-rated the background (everything but the VW bug), and I applied
a filter to the bug. The filter I used was deep emerald. Puttingthe image on the canvas was the last step. You will notice that
I used the rule of thirds in my photo.

Objective: Create an attractive webpage complete with an
original logo that advertises a company or individual.
Description: This project required that we use HTML and
CSS to create a visually-appealing webpage. I was required
to include an original logo of mine on the webpage. The
potential employer that is requesting to see one of mywebpages (this is a hypothetical situation) also wants me to
describe the design process for the logo on my webpage.
Process: Word count for the webpage: 264 words
I used Adobe Illustrator to create the logo used on the web-
page. The color choices on the webpage were based on the
colors used in the triangular logo for the Adirondack Corpo-
ration. The target audience is a professional group of peo-
ple, and so I kept the colors and fonts fairly conservative. Ifyoull notice I didnt use crazy colors or decorative fonts. The
logo/webpage appeal to both men and women because I
didnt use excessive amounts of pink or script fonts. Adiron-
dack Corporation sponsors scientific research, so the target
audience is looking for straightforward information on how to
get into contact with the corporation. The target audience
would also be looking for the mission statement of Adiron-
dack as well.
Design skills that I used in the design of the webpage and
logo were alignment as well as contrast. Flow was also tak-en into account. Repetition can be seen in the logo with the
repeated shape of the triangles.

Objective: Create attractive stationery utilizing an original logo
and contact information.
Description: We were assigned to make a business card (front
and back) as well as a letterhead for a company. Part of the
assignment consisted of designing a new logo as well. The
stationery had to fit the group we were representing.
Process: The first thing I had to do was design a new logo. I didnt
want it to be just a name logo, I wanted some design in there
as well. I kept the typography simple since this is a conservative
corporation. I placed the logo on a business card as well as the
letterhead. Information for the executive had to be listed on the
card/letterhead in small font. Making sure everything lined up
evenly was one of the last steps.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator CS6 and Adobe InDesignCS6
How the logo represents the company: The logo was made for
a corporation. That is why I kept the color scheme of the logo
professional as well as the shapes involved. I wasnt aiming for it
to be cutesy, but rather, conservative. However, I still wanted it to
be visually appealing. I think it is pleasing to the eye without ven-
turing into the artsy side of things. Also, the name of the compa-
ny is a mountain range (The Adirondacks), so I thought it would
be interesting to throw in triangles to represent the mountains.

Objective: Create a brochure on a topic or company of choice.
Use images and an original image as well as 250 words.
Description: The class was assigned to make a brochure. The
brochure could really use any folds we wanted. We had to use an
original logo as well as four images and a textwrap.
Process: One of the most difficult things about the brochure proj-
ect is setting it up. You have to map everything out first and then
create it with guides in InDesign. Writing the body copy was the
second step. Third, I created a new logo in Illustrator to use on
my brochure. I also had to choose images that were relevant to
my brochure subject and place them on my brochure in InDe-
sign. I also had to incorporate a textwrap which I did in InDesign.
Before I did the textwrap, I used Photoshop to select what I want-
ed of my twitter image and refine the edges on it.

Objective: Use illustrator to create three varying logos for one
company. Logos must accurately represent the company.
Description: A company commissions you to create three varying
logos. They must be made with Adobe Illustrator. The logos must
accurately represent the company.
Process: My first step was to choose a company that I was go-
ing to represent. Once I had done that, I had to come up with
a feel for the logo. Since I was representing a gym, it wasnt
going to be the same type of logo that I would create for, lets
say, a restaurant. I played around with contrast, color, strokes,
and also the positioning of the type. One of my final steps was
making sure that everything was aligned properly.
Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator CS6
How the logo represents the company: The logo for a gym needs
to be simple, professional, and clean. As I created the logo, I
tried to aim for that vision, which is why the logos are leaning
more towards the conservative side.

Objective: Use Photoshop to create a poster with a theme.
Description: Our assignment was the create a poster (inspira-
tional in nature) that incorporated at least two images and the
mask tool in Photoshop. We were also asked to apply a filter and
use appropriate typography. The class was also asked to use
the Design Principles.
Process: The first thing I had to do was pick some images. I
chose to do a montage from the movie, The Notebook. I had to
use the mask and brush tool in conjunction to make the couple
blend into the background, at least to a certain extent. I used
a photo filter on the whole background image, which was the
warming filter 85.
The text was one of the last things I addressed. I chose to make
the last segment of the quote contrast with the rest of the quote.

Objective: Create an event ad with a scanned image, date-time-
place, etc.
Description: In the visual media course Im taking we were asked
to come up with a charity event and create an ad for it. This time
it could be in color or black and white.
Process: After I decided to use a photo depicting an African fam-
ily, I then decided to do a clothing drive. The design is mostly
left-aligned, as you can see. I started out with a lighter green
background but then decided I wanted to go with the rasta col-
ors because I thought it was something you probably dont see
everyday. I took a risk with the color scheme here. I made the
title large because it needs to capture attention from far away.
