Greetings!
We are the UP Medical Students Society, a non-profit, non-stock, college-based organization duly accepted by the
University of the Philippines College of Medicine. We aim to help develop holistic and service-oriented medical
doctors by organizing health and service-oriented activities such as advocacy programs, outreach programs,
medical missions and workshops.
In line with that goal, we have partnered with the Leukemic Indigents Fund Endowment (LIFE), an organization
dedicated to assisting leukemic children from indigent families receive optimum care in response to the childrens
medical, financial, psychosocial, and spiritual needs. Apart from helping raise awareness of their advocacy, ourfocus is to work on activities that will contribute to the childrens social and emotional development (visit
http://www.lifeforleukemia.com/).
This February, we launched the Move for LIFE campaign (www.move-4-life.org), which aims to spread information
about the foundation and their cause as well as launch a series of projects and activities that will offer fun learning
experiences to the children of L.I.F.E. One such activity is the______, a picnic and kite flying activity on April 14 for
around 20-30 children and their families from LIFE. It will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to come
together, play, and enjoy the outdoors, as well as foster a stronger bond between our organization and LIFE.
In this regard, we humbly appeal to you for your support in this undertaking through your financial assistance,
which will be used to defray expenses for the activity such as materials for the kites, snacks, and transportation.
Although cash donations would enable us to allocate resources more easily, in-kind donations such as freebies or
giveaways for children, food (snacks and drinks), and materials for the kite (paper/plastic/lightweight cloth,
wooden sticks, strings, tape) would also be very much valued. Attached in this letter are the sponsorship packages
and a concept note about the Move for LIFE campaign.
We would tremendously appreciate if you could advise us regarding your response at the earliest possible time.
Should you have any inquiries or wish to clarify pertinent details about the project, please feel free to contact
Marjorie Cua at 09228814278/[email protected].
We thank you for your very kind and generous attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Marjorie Mae C. Cua

In celebration of the World Cancer Day (February 4), around 200 UP College of Medicine students, led
by the UP Medical Students Society and its partner, the UP MedRhythmics, gathered and performed a Flash Mob
Dance in SM Mall of Asia on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 2:00 PM, as a kick-offf for the MOVE FOR LIFE
CAMPAIGN.
The Move for L.I.F.E. campaign aims to raise funds for and awareness of the plight of many Filipino
indigent children who are afflicted with leukemia a fatal yet curable cancer among children- and yet are unable to
afford available and effective life-saving treatment. In particular, the project aims to gather support for the Leukemic
Indigents Fund Endowment Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with leukemia
have a chance at life and obtain necessary medical services.
This objective shall be achieved through by:
1. Launching a series of projects and activities directed towards the children of L.I.F.E.2. Obtaining sponsorships and donations for the patients of L.I.F.E.3. Launching the websitewww.move-4-life.org, containing the video of the Flashmob, the projects and
activities, and our sponsors and donors.4. Dissemination of the website and video through social and internert media. .
Active efforts to disseminate the video and the project will be carried out until February 2013. Hopefully, this
project would be able to call attention to the needs of L.I.F.E. and the children it helps, and be able to generate
funds to help fight this curable disease that robs so many children of a bright future.L.I.F.E. the beneficiary
Leukemia is the most common cancer among children in Philippines. Unlike several years beforehowever, leukemia is very curable today. Current available treatment is able to save the lives of most patients fromthis otherwise fatal disease. Unfortunately, the current full cost of treatment per child is approximately four hundredand twenty thousand pesos (PhP420, 000), over a 3-year period. This amount covers chemotherapy, laboratory, andantibiotics. As such, many patients, particularly those who come from impoverished families are unable to getaccess to this life-saving treatment.
This is where the Leukemic Indigents Fund Endowment Foundation comes in. Through sustained effortsof volunteers and medical staff from the Fe Del Mundo Hospital, the organization serves to tap generous individuals, organizations and corporations and funnel support to those patients in need of treatment. They also provideemotional and psychological support for the patients and their families and help them combat the effects of leukemiaand other hematological diseases. Through the organizations work over the years, many children who have leukemia
have been given a chance at life and have achieved full remission to become productive and successful members ofsociety.
However, support for L.I.F.E. has been dwindling over the years. They are having difficulty gettingthrough to or getting the attention of prospect sponsors and donors. They also lack the staff to support their activities, having to rely on a few volunteers to sustain the organization.
This project aims to help bring more support to L.I.F.E. and its patients through the use of social, online andbroadcast media. Hopefully this project can direct the eyes of generous individuals or organizations to the plight of
L.I.F.E. and its children. For more information regarding L.I.F.E., please visithttp://lifeforleukemia.com.
