Its a pleasure to share some of my thoughts through the 3 rd release

LIFE, monthly newsletter of Lions Club of Dehiwala North.

This month we are mainly focus on cancer awareness, specially breast

cancers since October is dedicated for breast cancer awareness. We

have conducted our main event on Breast Cancer Awareness &

Prevention program at the Sports Ministry on 28th October with

participation of many known figures to improve the awareness of

breast cancers. Parallel y we have organized very important awareness

program on common subject of Non Communicable Disease for

public. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parties

including Health Ministry, Sports Ministry and Cancer Awareness

Unit of Cancer Hospital for gathering hand in this worthy event.

Also I would like to thank all who contribute to LIFE by articles,

designing and type setting or any other way and make our effort a

success. I hope readers will be shared the this message with your

beloved love ones and friends to take immediate precautions to secure

their health and it will add more value to our effort of giving a life

Breast cancer is curable if it is detect early.Do

your part to help create awareness and pass thismessage on to your loved ones,friends and

community.lets be positive.you can make a

difference.

1. family history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer. (mother/sister)

2. females with breast diseases.

3. females without children or those who gave birth after the ageof 35.

4. females who had first menstruation before 11 years ago.

5. late menopause (stopping periods) after 55.

6. obecity or increase weight gain following menopause.

7. prolonged exposure to hormone containing pills (espestrogen)

without medical advice.

No. most breast cancers are detected in women without any of

these risk factors.Further more ,all the women with risk factors

will not develop breast cancer.

An asymmetry of the breast (resent change),breast lump,

dimpling, changes in the skin of the breast,(similar to an orange

peel or thickening) ,nipple change/ retraction,discharge from the

nipple,pain in the breast.

If detected early ,can be treated successfully and lead a normal

life.

● Observe both breasts in the positions indicated

● Observe for any changers of the

breasts in following positions:

■ Lying down on bed seated or stand

■ If you are lying down, put a towel Under the shoulder

of the examined breast

■ Examine the right breast with the left hand And the

left breast with right hand.

■ Feel a breast in clockwise direction from Outward to

inwards towards nipple. Feel for any lumps,

discomfort or pain.
