He drives a Toyota Corolla and flies in economy class, prefers

to stay in company guest houses and even served food on

paper plates at a lunch honoring his son's wedding.

In 2001, he founded Azim Premji Foundation, a non-profit organization, with a vision to contribute to achieving quality education that facilitates a equitable, humane and sustainable society.

The Foundation works in the area of education for systemic change in India's

1.3 million government-run schools

National Institute of Industrial Engineering

 In 2009, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from 

Wesleyan University for his outstanding

philanthropic work.

In 2011, he has been awarded  Padma Vibhushan

the second highest civilian award by the Government of India

In 2013, he was awarded the Asian Business Leaders Award

for his impulsive Business credentials and service to society.

To be able to predict the future and rightly predict it is what differentiates smart managers from managers.

He lives in a 1700sq.ft flat but he provided shelter to children's in more than

13 states.
