THE BASIC CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT ACT

• The Basic Conditions of Employment Act was passed in 1997 to protect employees.

• The law focuses on :

- Working hours

- Lunch Breaks

- Leave

- Remuneration ( Pay)

• Both employer and employee have to comply with the Bill of rights and respect each others rights.

• Knowing your rights in the workplace is important as long as you are willing to fulfil your responsibilities.

THE BASIC CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT ACT

RIGHTS IN THE WORKPLACE

• Section 30 of the basic conditions of employment act of 1997 requires the employer to display a statement of employees rights at the work place in all official languages.

• Laws control employment conditions such as leave, working hours ( Ordinary, public holidays and Sundays).

• The laws also control deductions, overtime and termination of employment.

RESPONSIBILITY IN THE WORKPLACE

• With rights comes responsibilities, for example the rights to basic education comes with the responsibility to attend school and work as hard as you can.

• An example at the workplace is that each individual has the right to practice their own language and culture at their place of work.
