found in pharmaceutical process manufacturing. The new gasket was

developed to reduce manufacturing risks by eliminating cleaning issues

associated with the intrusion or recess of the gasket, improving long-term

sealability and providing full product traceability for the materials used.

An innovative LED lighting manufacturer was faced with a unique design challenge for a

high-illumination product. Dealing with multiple issues concerning environmental sealing,

thermal management and EMI suppression, the manufacturer contacted Niantic’s sales

engineer for application assistance under a very aggressive project timeline.

The newly-developed product included a radically re-designed and miniaturized electrical

enclosure capable of surviving harsh environmental conditions. Working in collaboration

with our customer’s engineers and premium materials suppliers, Niantic’s sales engineer

quickly selected an array of custom materials and sealing profiles. Initial form, fit and

function sample parts were then rapidly supplied utilizing Niantic’s in-house prototype

fabrication equipment.

After a joint engineering review of prototype samples, Niantic’s team further showed how

three enclosure gasket seals could be reduced to two by consolidating environmental and

EMI gaskets into a single gasket design. This simple, but illuminating approach saved

additional time and cost while enhancing overall sealing performance. Final part approvals

were released by the customer to Niantic’s production department and delivered ahead of

schedule while meeting all quality control and performance requirements.

Our solution and, more importantly, our customer’s success with this project, has led to

Niantic’s collaborative involvement in six additional projects.
