Life Sciences Data Science Analyst Job summary

The Life Sciences Data Science Analyst is a key hire in the growing Applied Data Sciences group at IBRI and reports to the Director of Applied Data Sciences. In this role, you will have the opportunity to be exposed a breadth of opportunities to leverage complex life sciences and/or health data, and technologies to drive innovation at the core of Indiana’s robust life sciences industry. Your deep data integration, data analysis, machine learning, and visualization experience to solve problems will be essential for the success as a critical member of a small high-performing team growing this high-profile Institute in Indianapolis. You will have the opportunity to build a strong network and gain experience in the technology and life sciences research sectors in Indiana.

Responsibilities and duties

Your primary responsibility within the Applied Data Science group will be to provide a mix of data cleansing, integration, analysis, machine learning, and visualization skills to support its collaborations. Specifically, in order of importance, you will be expected to provide:

• Data Cleansing, Transformation, Integration, Analysis, and Visualization – use your expertise working with IBRI’s partners and service providers on specific applied data science projects to meet the project’s defined timeline and deliverables.

• Informatics and Machine Learning – leverage and grow your experience of applying traditional and emerging statistical analysis, informatics, and machine learning techniques to extract insights out of data, generate predictive models, or other ways to derive hypotheses or value from larger complex life science data sets.

• Software Development – based upon your experience and interests, provide support to the groups internal and external projects.

• Explore New Technologies – explore new data integration, machine learning, or visualization technologies that will drive innovation within future projects.

• Special Projects – based on your skills, experience, and interests, work on special technology projects (open data, data security, visualization, data science, …) that are needed to support the mission and growth of the IBRI.

Qualifications and skills

• B.S. degree in a scientific-, computer- or technology-related disciplines. • Exemplified use of informatics, biostatistics, machine learning, or visualizations to solve

problems with complex data sets. • Programming/scripting experience, especially Python, R, or other data-science languages/tools. • Experience working with computational, data analysis, and visualization programming languages

and tools. • Ability to rapidly learn new domain areas, problems, or technologies, especially in a scientifically

Additional preferences

• Experience working in a scientific/research environment and/or significant scientific coursework.

• Strong programming experience in multiple languages. • Strong UNIX experience either as a user or administrator. • Experience in Agile software development as a full-stack developer. • Interest, excitement and ability to stay current with changing trends in data science and

informatics. • Self-motivated, strong communication skills, focus on delivering results, and ability to work

independently in a dynamic research environment. • Projects a professional and positive attitude and enjoys working in team efforts.
