Den-Bean CaféDen-Bean Café is a new partnership project based at Howdon Community Centre that is cooking up astorm. The project is a partnership between AdultLearning Alliance, Public Health and the HowdonCommunity Centre Management team.
The name was decided by a local Howdon resident
reflecting the location on Denbigh Avenue and the serving
of coffee. The café opened in September 2014 and is
staffed by a cook supervisor and up to 15 young people
over four days. The learners are completing a range of
qualifications and some will progress on to the introduction
to hospitality course.
The café offers these young people valuable training and
work experience as part of the Council’s Creating a
Brighter Future priority around ‘Ready for Life and Work.’
The young people have been referred through the
Council’s Enablement team, Alternative Education team
and through Richmond Fellowship. The project was visited
by the Council’s Senior Leadership Team and has been
received extremely positively by residents.
The café produces freshly prepared, healthy nutritional
food. The lavender scones have been very popular, and
there are jacket potatoes with various fillings, freshly made
sandwiches, home made soups plus a meat and vegetarian
hot meal option.
Den-Bean is open at Howdon Community Centreevery Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9am-2pm.
