SO the

countdown towards local elections has begun and the

first weekend of voter registration has been a resounding success according to various media reports. Over a million people registered to vote over the weekend but whether these were first time registrations or simply changes of address remains unclear. What is abundantly clear is that before the weekend there were over nine million South Africans eligible to vote who had not yet bothered to register. Twenty five thousand identity books still remain unclaimed at Home Affairs.

The majority of unregistered voters are between the ages of 18 and 35.

This is alarming to those who are hoping for a democratic change in the current political status quo. It seems to indicate that young people in South Africa place little value on the democratic process that their parents sacrificed so much to gain access to.

What appears to be more popular is mass action as has been seen in areas around us recently which has led to increasing economic pessimism at a time when the opposite is required.

Now, more than ever, we need strong and inspired leadership. I think there are people capable of leading South Africa towards a brighter future in our current political dispensation, but whether they are engaging at a level that will enlighten sufficient numbers of potential voters to make a difference remains to be seen.

Meanwhile the activism continues, the latest incident over the weekend being particularly interesting.

According to media reports, police

and the Ethekwini Municipality’s Land Invasion Unit scrambled to stop the building of shacks on city land near the Riverhorse Valley Industrial Park on Sunday.

The unit is understood to have used rubber bullets to disperse a group of nearly 500 people who had begun clearing bush on a hillside adjacent to the N2 freeway between Queen Nandi Drive and the M25 KwaMashu Highway.

The land flanks existing shack settlements that spill over from KwaMashu’s A and B Sections.

A land grabber, who spoke to News24 on condition of anonymity, explained that living in A Section hostels which had become a hotbed of crime, had forced people to move.

He said that many had feared for their lives, and that this had driven them to try to find land elsewhere.

A large tract of land which runs alongside the freeway had already been cleared by the would-be settlers, and in the distance plumes of smoke rose from indigenous bush where people had cleared scrub and brush.

A police source, who could not be named as he is not authorised to speak to the media, said that one of the people erecting illegal dwellings had injured himself while fleeing from police.

“He claims to have been shot by the Land Invasion Unit but that seems unlikely because it looks like a scratch wound on his neck from running into a piece of wire.

“When that happened they called the police and now they are trying to settle everything down,” the source said.

Ethekwini Municipality spokesperson Tozi Mthethwa said that land invasion had been successfully halted.

“The city warns against land invasion on both government and privately-owned land. This is a serious

offence and perpetrators will be dealt with by law enforcement personnel,” she said.

I have a feeling that we are in for more of this in the lead up to the local elections…so brace yourself for the ride…the next few months are going to be very interesting for all of us.

DUAL MANDATE

DUAL MANDATE

IDA DU PLOOY - HARCOURTS DOLPHIN COAST

REASONS YOUR HOUSE7T

IME IS RUNNING OUT AND YOUR PROPERTY IS STILL ON THE MARKET. You ask yourself why the house

down the street sold, but yours is still on the market. Frustration sets in and you wonder why your property cannot attract a buyer? The answer may not be a mystery .The answer to this question is more common than it may appear.

THESE ARE SEVEN OF THE MOST COMMON REASONS WHY HOUSES DON’T SELL.

1.THE PRICE IS TOO HIGH. This is the number one reason why

a property is not selling. So many buyers place too high a

value on the house they have loved for many years. It is not always easy to distance yourself emotionally from your home, but you have to look at the home from a buyer’s perspective. By indicating the price the seller needs to move on or to replace, they often make the mistake of placing a value on the property for more than what market value is and no buyer wants to pay.

2.YOU CHOSE THE WRONG AGENT.Home sellers often think they can

get a better deal by choosing discount real estate services. Experience has proven that you usually get what you pay for. Start shopping around for an agent who will make an active effort to sell your house, and who will be honest in their assessment of your home. Harcourts Dolphin Coast offers a comprehensive marketing plan to all their clients together with a Promise that they will follow through.

3.A POOR FIRST IMPRESSIONIt is so easy to overlook small

things. However that one small crack, damp spot or broken hinge, will be the very first thing a prospective buyer will see. You do not need to spend a fortune to do a complete makeover, but make the effort to fix, clean out, unclutter and freshen-up your home before you place it on the market. Very important is the curb appeal of your home. There is so much that you can do to make the pathway leading to your property an experience of anticipation and great expectancy.

4.TOO MUCH PERSONALITY

How is your house decorated? Your sense of style may suit you to a tee , but is it turning off potential buyers? Professional stylist will always stage a home to suit the largest

percentage of buyers. You want buyers to view your home with the view of living in it. All your family photos and knick-knacks on your shelves and wall may silently work against you. Tone down the interiors and remove all the excessive personal mementos.

5.INAPPROPRIATE RENOVATIONS.When taking on renovations to suit

your lifestyle, keep in mind that buyers expect the garage to be a place to park cars, and bedrooms for sleeping. If you have turned a bedroom into a home theatre and a garage into an office, consider restoring them to their original purpose. It may seem obvious that the new owner could easily do these things themselves, but yours is just one of the many houses that they will be looking at. If they don’t see what they want, they will look elsewhere.

6.YOU HANG AROUND FOR HOME INSPECTIONS

By hanging around, and even worse taking over the viewing of potential buyers, you are placing them on edge and making them uncomfortable. They want to be able to speak freely to their agent not feeling your prying eyes listening to your reminiscing about the tree you planted when you moved in. Stay away during inspections and let your agent do their job, as they quickly pick up what it is that the buyer is looking for and will point that out to them without you distracting them.

7.YOUR PHOTOS DON’T FLATTER YOUR HOME.

In almost every instance people will have their first view of your property on the internet. Buyers inspecting your home will do so after looking at the photo’s online. Poor quality photos don’t flatter your home and buyers will consciously or subconsciously bypass your home. Make sure that the photos show off your home’s best features. If possible get a professional photographer to stage your photos. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Any of these seven mistakes can delay a sale. It doesn’t cost too

much to make your house more attractive. At Harcourts Dolphin Coast,

we take great pride in our listings. Why don’t you call on us

to help you sell your house faster and with much less stress. Call us, we are always

Legacy Talk was an evening of inspiration and fine whisky in the company of two of South Africa’s greatest soccer midfielders of all time.

Held at the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga on Wednesday 24 February, The Legacy Talk celebrated the legacies of Doctor Khumalo and Sibusiso Zuma, along with the finely crafted whisky that reflects their journeys to greatness. The two soccer heroes made a deep impression on the invited audience, not only in their capacity as great sportsmen, but also as exemplary role models. Guests enjoyed delicious canapés and tastings of The Glenlivet 12 Year Old and 15 Year Old. Tastings were led by charismatic Brand Ambassadors Peter Methven and Cuthbert Ndlovu, who shared the fascinating heritage and craftsmanship of the superb range of whiskies produced by

The Glenlivet - the single malt that started it all. This Legacy Talk forms part of The Glenlivet Legacy Series, a hugely successful platform for living legends and legends-in-the-making to share their stories.

KEEGAN’S GETS NEW WHEELS SOCRATES, considered as one of the founders of Western philosophy, was once named the wisest man on earth by the

Oracle of Delphi. When Socrates heard that the oracle had made such a comment, he believed that the statement was wrong.

Socrates said: “I know one thing: that I know nothing.”How can the smartest man on earth know nothing? I heard this paradoxical wisdom for the first time from my school teacher when I was 14 or 15. It made such an impact on me that I used Socrates’s quote as my learning strategy.“I know nothing” to me, means that you might be an educated person, but still, you know nothing. You can learn from everything and everyone. One thing that I like better than learning from my mistakes is to learn from other people’s mistakes. Over the years, I’ve been blessed to have great mentors, teachers, family, friends, that taught me about life.

HERE ARE 25 OF THOSE REMINDERS THAT OTHERS TAUGHT ME.1.Struggle Is GoodNever say “I can’t take it anymore.” Say “Bring it on!”2.Don’t ComplainComplaining is the biggest waste of time there is. Either do something about it, and if you can’t, shut up about it.3.Spend Time With People You LoveThat’s your family and best friends. 4.Don’t Start A Relationship If You’re Not In LoveYou kind of like someone and think: “We might as well give it a shot.” Not a good idea. You’re either in love, or you are not. Don’t fool yourself. It’s not fair to you and the other person.5.Exercise DailyI didn’t get this until recently. A

healthy body is where you have to start everything in life. If you can’t build a healthy and strong body, what CAN you build in life?6.Keep A JournalNo, keeping a journal is not for children. It helps you to become a better thinker and writer. “I don’t want to be a writer” you might think. Well, how many emails and texts do you send a day? Everybody is a writer.7.Be GratefulSay ‘thank you’ to everyone and everything. “Thank you for this beautiful day.” “Thank you for your email.” “Thank you for being there for me.”8.Don’t Care About What People ThinkWe all die in the end, do you really think it matters what people think of you?9.Take More RisksDon’t be such a wimp.10.Pick An Industry, Not A JobIf you want to become good at something, you need to spend years and years doing that. You can’t do that if you hop from industry to industry. Pick an industry you love and start at the bottom. You will find the perfect role for you eventually.11.Lead The WayWhen you find yourself in a situation where everyone looks at each other, it’s time for you to lead. You‘re a leader when you decide to become one. There’s no initiation or a title. Just a decision.12.Money Isn’t Important It really isn’t. But you have to train yourself not to care about money. Don’t become too dependent on the stuff you own — otherwise, the stuff will own you.13.Be NiceI don’t mean you should be a pushover. Just don’t insult people, think you’re better than them, or act like an idiot.

14.Learn Every DayYou’ve got to train your brain to stay alert. You don’t have to read a book a day to learn every day. Learn from your mistakes. Learn from the people around you — be open to what they can teach you.15.Rest Before You Are TiredEven if you love your job, and every day seems like a holiday, you need to take time to rest. You’re a human and not an android, never forget that.16.Don’t JudgeJust because people make different choices than you, they are not stupid. Also, you don’t know everything about people, so don’t judge them — help them.17.Think About OthersJust be mindful, that’s all. We all have families, bills to pay, and our own issues. Don’t always make everything about yourself.18.Give Without Expecting Something In ReturnDon’t keep score. You will become a bitter person if you do that. Give solely for the joy of giving. If you get something in return, great, if you don’t, great.19.There’s No End GameWe, as a species, just are. Don’t try to figure it all out. Enjoy your journey.20.Enjoy Small ThingsI like clichés because they are true. Especially this one. You know why? Everyone says they know it, but no one lives up to it. They just chase big things.21.Don’t Take Yourself So SeriousYeah, yeah, you’re an individual, and people have to take you seriously, I get it. But at the end of the day, we’re all a bunch of ants trying to chase the same

things. Lighten up.22.Don’t Blame PeopleWhat’s point? Do you want to punish them? You don’t do that to people. Also don’t blame yourself — you’re only human.23.Never Look Back Too LongReflecting on the past is only good for one thing: Learning.24.Take ActionDon’t just sit there, do something. Without action, there is no outcome. You might know a lot. But like Socrates, you and I know nothing at all. So we have to keep learning.

While most windows in

buildings are square or rectan-gular, the creative use of round win-

Here are some examples of how well they can work to inspire your next creative

renovation or dream build.

DIRECTIONS 1.Add the garlic and mint to a food processor and pulse for a few seconds.2.Transfer mixture to a large pot and add the cayenne and 12c. water.3.Bring to a boil; remove from heat and let sit overnight.4.Strain into a couple spray bottles (or gallon garden sprayer) and add the two small squirts of dish soap.

I just throw it all in now)

•2 tsp. dry cayenne pepper

•2 small squirts of biodegradable

dishwashing liquid

NOTES - This is like a pepper spray, so you can protect your skin and eyes like you would when using any hot peppers, although the potency is less because it only uses dried cayenne.- Wait a few days to harvest after using so there isn’t any spicy residuals

TO USE:6.- shake well before each use7.- this mainly repels bugs, though if they rub against it, it can kill them.8.- spray all the leaves on affected plants, including the undersides - preferably on a cloudy day so as not to burn the plants.9.- wait a few days to see the affect and then apply more if needed.

• GROW A GARDEN IN A POTThis trend has become very popular

as a large portion of homeowners are now living in flats or townhouses with no access to a personal garden. Residents have now developed the need to have some piece of nature around them, and have started growing planted tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, lettuce and many other edibles and herbs in containers and pots.

• CHEMICAL-FREE GARDENS The trend of environmental

responsibility continues through to gardening as eco-conscious homeowners are finding ways to manage their gardens without the use of pesticides and herbicides. Many homeowners are reducing the size of their lawns and

incorporating plants that are resistant to pests and disease. Gardeners are also taking care to use products that are more environmentally friendly.

• ROMANTIC FLOWER COMEBACKYour grandmother’s favourites are

back with an abundance, as gardens are now filled with roses, daisies and sweet peas - all making a romantic comeback. It’s now about the senses as flowers create a visual background with appealing aromas. No garden should be without them.

•HOUSE PLANT INTERIORS Plants are enjoying renewed status

as décor accessories. Not only are they attractive, but they improve the air quality in our homes by acting as filters that remove pollutants from the air and replace the air with oxygen. Orchids, ferns and palms are top choices when adding warmth and homeliness to any area.

•WATER CONSERVATIONThe trend to capture rainwater in rain

barrels has gained momentum. Wasting potable water for irrigation purposes will be avoided as much as possible. Homeowners are now attempting to contain rainwater on their properties by using downspouts to direct the rain water to feed gardens instead of running into storm water drains. There are many rain collection systems available from homemade to store-bought, and water conservation awareness has now become a prerequisite in some areas and neighbourhoods.

Pantone has announced not one, but two colors for the year 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity. You can say goodbye to this year’s

Marsala and hello to these mood boosting pink and blue hues!

DECORATING WITH PANTONE’S COLOUR OF THE YEAR: ROSE QUARTZ AND SERENITY

We’ll admit we were a little apprehensive when the colour authority that is Pantone chose ‘Rose Quartz’ and ‘Serenity’ as the must have hues of 2016.A big departure from last year’s easily liveable Marsala wine shade, a pale pink and blue only conjures up images of babies nurseries and kids candy. But the colour experts have spoken and their final selection will have been based upon extreme and thorough research spanning the political, socio-economic, environmental and cultural landscape so it comes with good credentials.“A color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude” is how the trend-forcasters at Panotne HQ view their selection which for the first time includes two colours.A double colour dose which once joined together create a balanced tone ‘to combat the stresses we experience in every day life’ they assure us.Rose quartz is described “a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure “ while Sereni-ty a light blue is a “weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relax-ation even in turbulent times.”All very well in theory but how do we incorporate 2016’s reigning colours into our homes without us looking like we are hosting a baby shower.

Subtlety is the key when applying these tones. Avoid candy floss or bar-bie pink hues and opt for muted understated shades instead like dusty pinks and sultry light blues. These are earthy base tones that can used as refreshing accent colours and lighter shades can act brilliantly as neutrals. When they are combined they actually feel quite contemporary and fresh as long as you stay clear of shabby chic and fussy chintzy decor.

Now a global phenomenon, Annie Sloan first developed the Chalk Paint® range in 1990 to answer the need she had for a versatile paint that would work beautifully

called it Chalk Paint® because of its velvety, ultra matt finish.

Benjamin Graindorge Reveals

Fallen Tree as Sculptural Bench

for YMER&MALTA

Considering wood as a living material, Benjamin Graindorge has created ‘fallen tree’, a bench that reveals the true DNA of an arboreal form. The design sees the branches and trunk of a tree stripped back, transitioning into a seat that expresses the strong, untamed nature and beauty of wood. Presented by gallery YMER&MALTA at FIAC 2015 in Paris, ‘fallen tree’ captures the essence of wood as both a sculptural element of nature and a functional object.

Prep: 45 mins Cook: 30 mins plus cooling Makes approx 25 chicks

Get the kids involved in the Easter celebrations with these mini meringues. A light lemony flavour and cute chick decoration makes them the perfect Easter treat

INGREDIENTS2 medium egg whites100g golden caster sugar½ tsp cornflourgrated zest ½ lemon, plus 1 tsp juiceyellow food colouring pasteorange, black and yellow icing pen, to decorate

METHOD1. Heat oven to 140C/120C fan/gas

1. Line a baking sheet with baking parchment and put a medium-sized plain nozzle on a piping bag.

2. In a clean bowl, whisk the egg

whites until they are very stiff. Add half the sugar and continue to whisk until the mixture is becoming firm and shiny.

3. Stir the cornflour into the

remaining sugar and add to the meringue, along with the lemon zest and juice, and a smidge of yellow food colouring paste. Whisk again until you have a very thick, firm and glossy pale yellow meringue.

4. Carefully spoon the meringue into

the piping bag. Push any air out of the top and tightly twist the opening to seal. Pipe about 25 thumb-sized dollops onto your baking sheet – if possible, try to make them wider at the base than the top, resembling a chick’s body and head. Leave a gap between each chick to allow for expanding when cooking.

5. Cook in the oven for 30 mins until

they are crisp, firm and come off the baking parchment easily. Leave to cool on a wire rack.

6. To decorate, use the orange icing

pen to make a V-shaped beak, and a black icing pen for eyes and feet. The yellow icing pen can be used to decorate fluffy hair on the chick’s head and/or wings. Will keep for up to 1 week in an airtight container.

We always start our Easter morning with toasted hot cross buns for breakfast. The gelati coloured latte bowls are perfectly sized for breakfast cereal, or perhaps some maple flavoured porridge or yoghurt and fresh berries.

EASTER DECORATING IDEAS

IT is hard to believe that Easter is just over 2 weeks away! It is one of our favourite holidays. After our long hot summer, everything starts to cool down around Easter

and we feel more like entertaining. It is a time for catching up with family and friends and enjoying hot cross buns, delicious Easter treats, leisurely family dinners, and of course – Easter eggs. We have started some Easter baking and have been decorating our home with some simple touches in preparation for the Easter holidays.

Make a lasting impression with your guests with these simple and easy Easter decorating ideas. Make you family and friends feel special by putting some care into your table setting and decorations. Homewares with metallic accents are really on trend at the moment. They add a celebratory touch and will look great for Easter breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

LISA COX

It wouldn’t be Easter without some Easter cupcakes for our morning tea. Seasonal treats such as Easter cupcakes add a decorative element to your table. This year we made some delicious vanilla cupcakes, topped with a swirl of lemon coloured buttercream frosting, and decorated with a mini Lindt chocolate bunny.

Make your Easter table inviting by using elements such as colourful Easter eggs, pretty placemats, fresh flowers, and simple servingware. If you are looking for a quick table setting idea for a family gathering, add a few mini eggs and a small chocolate bunny to a small porcelain dip bowl.

If you are looking for a more sophisticated Easter table setting use a monochromatic colour scheme, metallic accents, and natural accents such as leaves and fresh eggs. We layered some contrasting plates, and added an olive branch from our garden and a natural egg decorated with a monogram. A white napkin and cutlery tied with some silver ribbon completes the setting.

1. Make sure to take advantage of all the different “rewards” offers available. Save points or money back until Christmas and it will help with your Christmas expenses (I usually get about R1500 from one of my bank cards. At the same time, link your bank account to your phone to enable you to see your balance every time you spend and to avoid criminal use of your card.

2. Make your own cleaners where possible.

Floor cleaner (for grouting) 7 cups water, ½ cup bicarb, 1/3 cup lemon juice, ¼ cup vinegar. Spray on grouting, eave a few minutes then scrub. Rinse with clean water.

3. Make a budget and stick to it, and make a shopping list to suit your budget and

stick to it. This may mean you have to leave your better half (male in this case) at home as they tend to choose all the expensive foods!

4. Collect all your small coins in a jar during the year (throw in a few 1 and 2 rand coins to boost the coffers a bit).

5. Find ways to exercise without paying fees. There are many DVD’s available on all types of exercise such as yoga and pilates, and of course, there’s swimming and jogging or walking healthily in the open air. Don’t forget to include a good stretching regime.

6.Pack our own lunch (and for the family). It will probably be a lot healthier and definitely cheaper.

Each week Pam Mills will be doing the rounds of the most popular supermarkets in the Greater Ballito area to find the bargains that will help you to stretch your household budget and make your Rands go a little further. These will be featured on the Consumer Watch slot on Radio Life & Style every Thursday at 4.30pm and appear in print each fortnight in this publication.

She will also be offering useful hints and tips that will save you money and hopefully help the environment at the same time.

•Taylor Swift used her Grammys speech to address her ongoing feud with Kanye West on “her own terms”, a source says.

When Taylor won the Grammy for Album of the Year earlier this month (Feb16), beating both Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd, she made a rousing speech in which she called out rapper Kanye for including a crude line about her in his new song Famous.

While accepting her award for her album 1989, the 26-year-old beauty made a point of urging young women not be sidetracked by naysayers.

While Taylor apparently forgave Kanye for the stunt he pulled in 2009 when he stormed the MTV Video Music Awards and cut the performer off as she was accepting an award, she wouldn’t be so kind in the future.

Lady Gaga, who has long been a close friend of Elton and his husband David Furnish, took to the stage in a blue dress to perform with the music icon for a powerful rendition of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

His knockout show at Paris Fashion Week today featured elderly models with giant grey mohawks and silver bouffants rocking tartan kilts and biker jackets. The French designer, 61, showed he’s willing to push boundaries that bit further as he sent three ageing beauties down the runway.

Two senior models presents creations by Jean Paul Gaultier during his FW14 show today, a gentleman rocks nose ring and mohawk with tartan kilt, as a cool and confident woman pulls off all over space-age silver - lame trench, sequin top and leggings and cinching belt - to match her bouffant ‘do

One male model wore a embellished biker jacket and tartan kilt paired with leggings and Doc Marten style boots. He sported a giant silver nose ring and heavy black eyeliner, showing off his punk credentials. At one point he held up his umbrella in a defiant pose for photographers.

Meanwhile ladies were styled in space-age silver to match their glamorous hair styles. Model Catherine Loewe, 56, who sported a bouffant ‘do, was styled in silver lame tench, tight sequin top cinched in with a silver belt and matching leggings.

Not one to be labelled ageist, Gaultier also featured three adorable children in his presentation.

TOP 20 REASONS YOUR MOTOR VEHICLE INSURANCE CL AIMS GET REJECTEDANGELIQUE ARDE

BEING ignorant of the terms and conditions of your short-term insurance policy is

more likely to trip you up than a loophole in the policy itself. And you usually only get to terms with the Ts and Cs when it’s too late – when your claim has been rejected.

At a recent meeting of the Acsis/Personal Finance Financial Planning Club, Dennis Jooste, the Ombudsman for Short-term Insurance, revealed the most common reasons for short-term insurers rejecting claims for motor, contents and homeowner’s cover, which in many cases involve ignorance of the Ts and Cs.

Jooste says more than half of all complaints to his office involve motor claims. HERE’S WHY MOST MOTOR CLAIMS

ARE REPUDIATED.1. Unlicensed driver.2. Unroadworthy vehicle. If you have an accident and your insurer finds out your wipers didn’t work or your tyres were smooth, your claim could be rejected on the basis of your car being in an un-roadworthy state.3. Reckless driving. Watch out for the “Failure to take care” clause, Jooste says. “This refers to recklessness, which is not to be confused with negligence.” Also look out for a “Breach of

road traffic regulations” clause. If you were exceeding the speed limit at the time of an accident, your claim could be rejected.4. Drunk driving.5. Driver not the “regular driver”. Some policies cover the regular driver only. Others cover a named driver or any licensed driver. Jooste says misrepresentation by policyholders in this instance is common. Since young drivers pay higher premiums because of the risk they pose to the insurer, they may list a parent as the regular driver. When it is revealed that this isn’t true, the claim may be repudiated.6. Total-loss policy. This cover applies only when the insurer deems your vehicle to be a total write-off. Sometimes policyholders have this type of cover and only realise it when their claim is rejected, Jooste says7. Telematics data shows driver fault. Telematics is technology that can be used to track and recover your vehicle if it is stolen, and/or monitor your driving behaviour. Jooste says that some insurers insist on you fitting a telematics device to your vehicle. “The data gleaned from a telematics device can show a breach of speed limit or reckless driving leading up to an accident, which can result in your claim being rejected – and

it is difficult to dispute the evidence,” he says. But some insurers use telematics to reward good driving. In other words, telematics can be used as a carrot or a stick. “Make sure you know how the insurer is going to use this information,” Jooste says.8. Tracker device not fitted. Jooste says that if your cover is conditional on your car being fitted with a satellite tracking device, your claim will “probably” be rejected if you fail to comply with this condition.9. Vehicle inspection not carried out. Jooste says some insurers insist on inspecting your vehicle at inception of the policy. This is so that there can be no disputes about pre-existing damage to the vehicle. If you neglect to comply, you will be in breach of your contract and can have your claim rejected.10. Material non-disclosure at underwriting stage. Jooste says your claims record, a break in insurance cover, prior applications for cover being rejected, and judgments on your credit record are all material to the assessment of your risk, and

it is imperative that you disclose such information. For example, people with a bad credit record have a higher propensity to file fraudulent claims than people with a clean credit record, he says. “If you lie and it comes out later, your claim may be rejected.”11. Vehicle used for business. If you plan to use your vehicle for business, you need to disclose this to your insurer. “In my experience, insurers are very reasonable about this, and don’t look to load your premium if you seldom use your vehicle for

this reason.”12. Vehicle not parked securely at night. If you state that your car is parked securely – in a garage or off the street – at night, and, in the event of theft, it is found it was regularly in the street, your claim could be rejected.13. Security device not fitted. If you’re required to have your car fitted with an alarm or a gear lock and you don’t comply, your claim can be rejected.

THE BUGATTI CHIRON – FAST AND FURIOUS

The Chiron, Bugatti’s long-anticipated successor to the Veyron has been revealed ahead of its global

debut at the 2016 Geneva auto show.

The new Chiron takes the Veyron’s already impressive specs, to another level: 0 to 100km/h in less than 2.5 seconds, four huge turbochargers and a total power output of 1119kW/1600Nm! The speedo goes to 500km/h…

420km/h top speedThe 8-litre W16 engine from the Veyron has been completely redesigned,

propelling the new hypercar to limited top speed of 420km/h for ‘road use’. To keep it on the black stuff its tyres have been specially developed courtesy of a Bugatti-Michelin partnership.

Only 500 Chirons will be produced, the automaker has already received 150 orders, sold for the equivalent of R41-million.
