More than 60 interiors, home and garden businesses from across Cumbria and beyond have secured their places at the show which drew 2,000 people to Rheged last year. As well as showcasing exhibitors throughout the venue’s five spacious halls, the 2017 event will feature hands-on masterclasses where visitors can learn from experts in their field, and an exciting programme of talks in the theatre. Gardener’s Question Time, chaired by broadcaster and writer Eric Robson on Saturday, March 18, is a unique opportu- nity for visitors to quiz experts on gardening issues. From seed-sowing to discouraging slugs, the panel of Janet Queen, head gardener at Rose Castle; plantsman and nursery owner Tom Attwood; Shelagh Todd, from Newton Rigg College, and James Smith, of Growing Well, will offer advice on how best to solve your horticultural problems. Just bring along your question, a small plant sample or photograph on the day and place it into the large flower pot which will be located by the entrance on arrival at the show. The questions will be selected by Eric and the panel of experts prior to the 2pm talk. Gardener’s Question Time is an additional £3 on the entrance price in aid of Kendal charity Growing Well, which supports people with mental health issues through its organic farm and training centre. Visitors can also learn from experts in the small, specialist masterclasses which are new for this year’s show and include willow weaving, pottery, stencilling, cooking with herbs, furniture restoration, and making lampshades and footstools. These paid-for sessions must be booked in advance. Stephen became a professional upholsterer following a lifechanging accident in 1999. His work includes re-upholstery of contemporary furniture, renovation of antiques, and creating and refurbishing furniture for the hospitality industry. He also designs and makes bespoke furniture.
