Dear Principal, Administrator, School Representative and Businesses,

The Project Outreach and Prevention (POP) Foundation is bringing the excitement of promoting peace and unity to Northwest In-

diana as par t of National Youth Violence Prevention Week. This week will culminate with our 4th Annual Youth Violence

Prevention Leadership Conference (10am - 1pm) Friday, May 24th, 2019 for all NWI high school students at the newly

renovated Hammond Civic Center 5825 S. Sohl Avenue, Hammond, IN 46320. We are writing to request that you send as many

students as possible to this leadership conference. It is being provided free of charge for the purpose of helping your students

to create safer schools and communities. We are asking that you secure bus transportation for your students and schedule their

lunch to be delivered to the Hammond Civic Center for the day of the conference.

POP Foundation has formed a special partnership with the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere

(SAVE). SAVE is a student, peer-led program that strives to decrease the potential for violence and risky behaviors in schools and

communities by promoting meaningful student involvement, education, and service opportunities. We have started SAVE chap-

ters in NWI schools and would like to expand to all schools throughout NWI and Chicagoland areas. Our goal is to invite leaders

from each school and encourage them to organize SAVE Chapters at their perspective schools.

During the conference we will provide a memorable conversation about safety, conflict resolution, tolerance and peace. We will

have motivational speakers and entertainment to engage students. Additionally, there will be a special Public Health presentation

on “Stop the Bleed” Initiative for the students. The theme for this conference is “Not One More Life, One More Day” and the fo-

cus will be on our No Drugs, Healthy Choices, Stop the Violence Campaign. It’s a way to bring students from various high

schools across NWI together in a responsible manner to promote unity and peace during National Youth Violence Prevention

Week. Together we can show students that it’s cool to not do drugs or alcohol while making healthy choices, as well as help de-

crease the epidemic of violence. A special highlight for this year again is for participating students to nominate the School Service

Officer of the Year from their schools.

For more information, e-mail Kris D. Taylor: [email protected] or call 219-798-0744.

chaperone, school address and telephone number.
