Connect Through Prayer

Would you like to be part of a powerful prayer ministry? We would love to include you in our ranks of prayer warriors. To sign up, please list your name and email on the Info Board sign-up in the Gathering Area (narthex). Whenever you have a prayer need or praise, please share those with us. Prayers for general distribution may be sent to [email protected]; confidential prayers to [email protected].

Pastor David’s Corner

When was the last time a friend gave you a recommendation for a new restaurant that you “just had to try” because they had been there and really enjoyed it? Reading a good review about a restaurant may have started you thinking about checking it out some time, but if you’re like me, I read restaurant reviews or drive by restaurants and think, “We should eat there sometime,” but that’s about as far as I get. When someone I know, who also knows what I enjoy, gives me a recommendation, I’m more likely to put a plan into action, because I trust them and their recommendation. According to Thom Rainer’s book, The Unchurched Next Door, “82% of people will come to church if they are invited by a trusted relative or friend.” In Acts 1:8 Jesus said to His disciples, “You will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” They were to start telling people about Jesus right where they were – in the city of Jerusalem. We are privileged to share the good news of Jesus’ love and forgiveness with the people around us. Sometimes we may forget the urgency for this task. "For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again" (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). Think about the people in your neighborhood, at work, at school, people you know through sports events or your children’s activities, new neighbors, people you see regularly because of your daily routine, such as at the gas station, or other people that are in your life who aren’t active members of a church. You have time to pray for five people to invite to Back to Church Sunday on September 20. We have invitations available for you to give to your friends and neighbors. It’s time to invite.

Sunday School Kick-Off On Sunday, September 13th at 9:13am, we will kick off Sunday School with a family event. (There is no adult Bible study on September 13). We will work on the American Red Cross Pillowcase Project, sponsored by Disney. Sunday School Classes for all children will start the following Sunday, September 20.

Mite Box Sunday

Lord of Life’s Women’s Ministry designates the first Sunday of every month as

Mite Box Sunday. You can give your mites (offerings) to support the work of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). Mites are collected in mite boxes to support the mission projects approved by the LWML membership in convention every two years. Lutheran women have stepped out in faith, setting

goals and trusting God to move the hearts of His people to give generously to LWML to proclaim the Gospel. The national Mite Box Goal for 2013-2015 is $1,830,000 – that’s a lot of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters! Look for the LWML Mite Box in the entry and add your mites.

Pastor’s Sunday

Bible Study Pastor Caleb Kruse is going to start a new Bible study on Sunday, September 27! Everyone is invited! This study meets in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Kristin Lange, John and Jeanine Gerety’s grand-niece, will speak to the adult Bible study on September 20. Kristin has been appointed to be a career missionary and will serve in Germany to provide strategic, organizational, and operational oversight of The Wittenberg Project. The LCMS, German Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church (SELK), and Concordia Publishing House renovated the Old Latin School (built in 1564) for visitors and local Gospel outreach in the old town square. This confessional Lutheran presence in Wittenberg will enable people from all over the world to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the gifts that have come from the Reformation, which will celebrate its 500th anniversary in 2017. Through programming and having a steady presence in the center of Luther’s hometown, we hope to establish a congregation that will use the chapel in the Old Latin School.

The Women’s Monday night Bible study meets the 2nd

and 4th

Mondays of the month at 7 p.m. The study is “Faithful, Abundant,

True” by Kay Arthur, Beth Moore, and Priscilla Shirer and was

recorded live at the Orlando Deeper Still conference.

Kay Arthur teaches from basically, the entire book of Hebrews!

Hebrews is both an example of God's faithfulness and a challenge to

believers to be faithful in difficult times.

Priscilla Shirer teaches from Ephesians 3:20-21 on God's abundance. A

fundamental basis for every believer is the absolute reality that God

can do whatever He chooses to do. God's ability empowers our

faithfulness.

Beth Moore teaches on the topic of discernment. In these difficult days

it is absolutely essential that we learn to trust the Holy Spirit to enable

us to determine what is true and what is false.

While these three women each speak on the distinctive topic the Holy Spirit had lead them to teach,

the messages result in a marvelous blend. Kay challenges us to faithfulness in difficult days. Priscilla

points to the essential of trust in God's ability, and Beth teaches on how to discern truth from error in

these difficult days.

Friday Faith Food Fellowship

We are studying 1 Peter. We gather to eat at noon on Fridays at Valentino’s, 5022 S 108

th Street. The Bible

study begins at 12:30. Everyone is invited. The apostle Peter’s first letter contains timely words to Christians who are concerned about living their Christian faith in a sometimes unreceptive and even hostile environment.

Invite Your Friends to Church September 20

They are your neighbors. When you pull out of your driveway, you wave at them as they water their lawn. Your kids attend the same school; they play together in your yard. You may have even picked up their mail while they were on vacation. But have you ever invited them to church?

Lord of Life is joining thousands of other churches across America for Back To Church Sunday – a special day where we will invite unchurched people in our community to come give church a try! To make it even easier for you to invite your neighbors, coworkers, and friends pick up an invitation card to give out as invitations. We’ll have a picnic with yard games beginning at 11:45 a.m.

Faith-building – Fun – Fulfilling – that’s just some of the rewards of being a member of our worship team, Rejoice! Are you a living room musician, or is your instrument sitting in the back of a closet just yearning to be played again? Or maybe you know a guitarist or drummer?
