We’re an employer-led body with one agenda — to ensure the lifelong learning workforce is the best it can be.
We are one of 25 Sector Skills Councils, and we are responsible for supporting the lifelong learning workforce by: developing and raising standards; providing labour market intelligence; engaging our employers; and delivering innovative projects.

The Catalyst Programme
Catalyst comprises four major sub-programmes which will support further education (FE) providers in taking a structured approach to the development of leaders and managers and in ensuring teachers, tutors and trainers keep their vocational and subject specialist skills up-to-date.
This will be achieved by building strong relationships between FE sector employers and businesses.

Pass On Your Skills
Enables teachers, tutors and trainers in the FE sector to update their industry related skills through a variety of learning experiences
Successful major pilot programme delivered more than 500 FE sector “business exchanges”
Working in partnership with the Institute for Learning and the Learning & Skills Improvement Service
Funding of £1,000 per participant available up to 15 participants per provider – 31st March 2009

Business Interchange
• National campaign to attract and develop 210 graduate calibre individuals into the sector
• Current model recruits individuals to a talent pool and encourages the sector to include candidates in their recruitment process.
• Currently re-designing the programme. New model aims to recruit to vacancy and provides support mechanisms including assessment centre support to providers
• Candidates applying for current management vacancies
• Once selected, successful candidates benefit from a fully funded 12-month leadership development programme
