Lifenet is an organization that has served North Texas for 37 years. But in 2013, we touched more lives than ever before. We realize this was only possible through the generous support we received from individuals, corporations, foundations and other nonprofit agencies who share our mission and an individual’s ability to rebuild lives.

WE BELIEVE IN SAYING THANK YOUIt is my pleasure to report to you that Lifenet Texas has successfully completed its 36th year of providing services to our neighbors. This community report is meant to summarize some of the highlights from our 2013 operations. However, we believe that the success that we achieved last year was only possible because of an extraordinary team effort on the part of numerous Lifenet Texas stakeholders - our talented staff, skilled Board of Directors, and dedicated volunteers and community partners who were critical to our success.

We believe that Lifenet Texas is a leader in our community. We believe that our method of providing care is the best model for helping people with a mental disorder stabilitze their life. For more than three decades, we have listened and learned how to weave together services which we believe most effectively support the five key mission areas described in this report. And as a result, Lifenet Texas is now an organization that is both unique and uniquely relevant in our community. We believe that, every day, we can and do make a differ-ence in the lives of others.

As we pause to briefly recount the sum total of our efforts last year, we also send this report to you, our friends, with our sincerest appre-ciation. As you read, you’ll see that we believe our future is bright and more importantly, brighter for the thousands of people who seek support for their mental disorder, addiction, unemployment, homelessness or hunger. This is because of you. We thank you for dedicat-ing your support to Lifenet Texas and the fact that you believe in our ability to help our neighbors who are in need.

we rebuild liveslifenet texas

As the largest local nonprofit of its kind in North Texas, Lifenet Texas believes that every-one deserves a chance to live a healthy and productive life. We believe in our ability to meet this need by delivering real support to anyone who seeks help., including the unin-sured and underfunded. In response, we pro-vide professional mental health treatment for children, teens and adults, safe housing options for individuals and families, clothing, access to healthy food and nutrition education, coaching and training that help create useful life skills and empowering employment opportunities. This is our mission - every day.

We provide housing for the homeless, food for the hungry and opportunities to earn a living. We provide personal care for anyone who struggles with mental disorders and addiction. As a result, we reunite families, rediscover

hope and rebuild lives.

MISS ION3WE BELIEVE WE’RE UNIQUE

Living with a mental disorder is a very personal struggle. For almost 40 years, Lifenet Texas has helped north Texans create a stable and happy life. We are experts in this area and we feel education is key. We are experienced at gain-ing insight into behaviors, creating coping skills and establishing meaningful goals. We realize that when a person turns to Lifenet for help in managing their mental disorder, they are making one of the most important decisions in their life. This is why we help anyone who comes to us, including the uninsured and underfunded. We believe that the power of the human spirit is unequalled.

I believe in a new start. I was divorced and left to raise three children alone. I came to Lifenet for help with depres-sion. I felt my case manager cared about me. She listened. With her help, I’m in

a new career and closer to my kids.- Dennis, age 47

ADULT DISORDERSLifenet Texas Mission Area:

WE BELIEVE IN HUMAN SPIRIT

Mental disorders affect kids too. In fact, studies show that 1 in every 5 child or teen suffers from a mental disorder. his is why we’ve grown to help children, teens and families. Lifenet’s new child and adolescent program, Young Minds, is designed to support children and teens between the ages of 4 and 17 who struggle with mental health disorders. Lifenet is dedicated to stopping the generational cycle of poverty. To do this, we identify solutions today that help to prevent problems into adulthood. Together, we can build a better future for north Texans.

I believe in happiness. My oldest son seemed very unhappy and began acting out. He didn’t focus and began to dis-obey. I enrolled him in Lifenet’s Young Minds and he’s much happier. eir

play therapy helped him calm down.- James, age 34

YOUTH DISORDERS

WE BELIEVE IN DREAMS

Homelessness is a significant threat to a person’s ability to rebuild their life. We realize that when a person is homeless, they might feel forced to do anything necessary to survive. A community support system can help. This is why Lifenet Texas is the largest provider of permanent supportive housing in the region, currently providing a home to more than 500 people now living in communi-ties across north Texas. Lifenet is also the only provider of behavioral health services at the Bridge Homeless Shelter in downtown Dallas. This dynamic relationship allows us to deliver important services to the region’s homeless

I believe in family. I became homeless after dealing with legal issues which caused me to lose my job, my home and my daughter. Lifenet oered me a safe place to get back on my feet. I’m now back with my daughter and life is good. - Tameka, age 26

HOMELESSNESSLifenet Texas Mission Area:

WE BELIEVE IN COMMUNITY

Lifenet Texas puts north Texans back to work. Many Texans with disabilities, such as a diag-nosed mental disorder, are often unemployed because they are not able to obtain steady work in a competitive job environment. At Lifenet, we value the dignity that comes through gainful employment. We know that a paycheck is means more than just the money earned. It’s economic independence which is critical to rebuilding a life. Lifenet works closely with dozens of partners in our community to offer stable and fulfilling opportunities designed to empower an individual and build a new life through self-sufficiency.

I believe in opportunity. I worked as a security guard for years. But I became sick and then needed knee surgery. When I returned, I was unable to work many hours. I found Lifenet and they helped me learn skills for a new career.

- Anthony, age 34

UNEMPLOYMENTLifenet Texas Mission Area:

WE BELIEVE IN EMPOWERMENT

Addiction is common among people who suffer from a mental disorder. On top of this, an addict often comes to Lifenet trying to overcome feelings of shame, hopelessness or anger. Lifenet’s addiction treatment program, Oneighty, provides the resources and support needed to help a user face their addiction and turn their life around. We believe that taking another chance requires courage. Addiction treatment is not the same process for every-one. In fact, there are many roads which lead to recovery. The Lifenet team is dedicated to setting meaningful goals for each individual and working together to rebuild a life free from addiction.

I believe in another chance. I’ve faced alcoholism most of my life. It’s led to problems in my relationships. With Lifenet’s help, I’ve begun to rebuild my life and now my main goal is to estab-

lish a good relationship with my son.- Jimmy, age 61

ADDICT IONLifenet Texas Mission Area:

WE BELIEVE IN COURAGE

Hunger is a real fact of life for many North Texans. In fact, the USDA counts 1 in 5 Texas as “at risk” for hunger. Lifenet believes that feeding the hungry is an essential step in help-ing people rebuild their life. To help address the issues related to hunger in north Texas, we nowoperate two food pantries in our commu-nity. Each pantry is stocked with food and sup-plies donated by partners who share our vision. These relationships which allow us to deliver fresh meals to thousands each year. In addition to delivering balanced food options, we also offer nutritional education that sup-ports a healthy lifestyle.

HUNGERI believe in helping others. I moved here from Baltimore to start a new life. I became homeless and I wasn’t able to take care of myself. Lifenet gave me the help I needed when I needed it. Now I

want to give back.- Cedric, age 67
