ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE TRANSFORMATION AGENDA ANAMBRA STATE MDGs Nigeria – Putting People First ANAMBRA STATE THROUGH THE OSSAP- MDGs CONDITIONAL GRANT SCHEME (2011-2013) 1. You do not need to introduce MDGs to anyone again in these communities. It’s a family word now, and it’s what you hear people talk about because they have seen their handiwork with their own eyes. - Kenneth Ikechukwu Aniemena (MDGs Technical Assistant, Awka North LGA, Anambra State) 2. We called the health centres to come for their drugs and because of their prior experiences some of them came in with small nylon bags but they were surprised at what they received and had to call for bigger containers to take their portion of the drugs. - Jude Nwankwo (MDGs Technical Assistant, Orumba South LGA, Anambra State) 3. Before the (MDGs) renovation, this place looked more like a bush than a learning environment. Now it wears a new look, to the extent that though it is a primary school, it looks more like a secondary school, and is even better than some of the classrooms in our universities today. It is an excellent job for the benefit of our children. - Mr. Alor Jerry (PTA Chairman, Community Primary School, Ebenebe, Awka North LGA) 4. (Before the MDGs intervention), this place was like a death trap. Students don’t like coming because of the possibility of seeing some dangerous animals like snakes and scorpions. The MDGs have given us an enabling environment and the students are responding better now. As a teacher I’m always eager to go to class because the environment is clean, well ventilated, and well arranged. We are happy about it. - Chike Oraba (Teacher, Nawfija Secondary School, Nawfija, Orumba South LGA) 5. I like the (MDGs) water best because it helps me in my business and it is close to my house. Before we would go a long distance to a stream to get water. The community also likes the water because it is available to us at all times. - Mrs Roseline Orjiewulu (Beneficiary, Ozubulu Small Town Water Scheme, Ozubulu, Nnewi South LGA) 6. The old hospital was crowded and dirty. It was really poor. Now you can come in here and breathe fresh air. There is this feeling you have when you are in a clean hospital. I think with this building and this health care center they have done excellently well with MDGs Goal 4, maternal mortality and child mortality. - Mrs. Oluchi Okpala (Maternal Patient, Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha North LGA) 7. This school was tattered, and students could not perform well because our brains were not at rest due to the sun. MDGs renovated our school building, built a VIP toilet for us, drilled a borehole and gave us some learning materials. We can now read in our classes, so we have improved academically. For example the past SS3 students of this school came out with excellent results, showing that the MDGs did affect them positively. - Okechukwu Uchenna (Student, Christ the King College, Umuem, Anambra West LGA) COMMENTS FROM BENEFICIARIES OF OSSAP- MDGs CGS PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES CONSTRUCTION OF STUDENT HOSTEL, SCHOOL OF MIDWIFERY, IYIENU HOSPITAL, OGIDI, IDEMILI NORTH LGA REACTIVATION OF SMALL TOWN WATER SCHEME, OBOSI, IDEMILI NORTH LGA CONSTRUCTION OF HOSPITAL WARDS AND MEDICAL PERSONNEL QUARTERS, HOLY ROSARY HOSPITAL, WATERSIDE, ONITSHA NORTH LGA REACTIVATION OF SMALL TOWN WATER SCHEME, OBA, IDEMILI SOUTH LGA RENOVATION OF CLASSROOM BLOCK, CHRIST THE KING COLLEGE, UMUEM, ANAMBRA WEST LGA REACTIVATION OF SMALL TOWN WATER SCHEME, OGIDI, IDEMILI NORTH LGA RENOVATION OF CLASSROOM BLOCK, EZIOGBO PRIMARY SCHOOL, AMANSEA, AWKA NORTH LGA CONSTRUCTION OF STAFF QUARTERS, COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CENTRE, UMUNZE, ORUMBA SOUTH LGA
