From the Pastor’s Desk...
You set the boundaries of the earth, and you made both summer and winter. – Psalm 74:17
Can you believe it...summer is here! Just yesterday (or so it seems) we were busy shoveling snow – or at least
trying to navigate the ice. And now…vacations, family outings, long weekends and visiting loved ones we
haven’t seen for a while. A time for fun and relaxation. I pray you are having a great summer.
I do have one question to ask you: “Where will Jesus be in your summer plans?” Too many times Jesus is left out
in the cold as we celebrate the heat of summer. It’s just so easy to do! We might think that the Lord won’t mind if
we miss church this weekend to go to a lake, play golf, go fishing, traveling or whatever. But as you pack for
whatever your summer plans are, remember this: be sure to include Jesus.
By this I mean…
WORSHIP! Wherever you may be there are Christian churches for you to attend worship in. Make
worship a priority wherever you are, including here at the Presbyterian Church of Marion.
GIVING! Despite rumors to the contrary, churches do not close down or move to a part-time schedule
during the summer. We still have vital ministries and worship that pleases God during the ‘dog days.’
We still have salaries and bills to pay to keep the ministries going. So I urge you to keep up the giving, no
matter what the outside temperature may be.
GROWING! Sometimes we take a hiatus from Christian growth opportunities in the summer. Instead,
use your rest and relaxation time to grow. Read a Christian book, explore a new growth opportunity, find
a Christian concert to enjoy, or listen to Christian music while laying in your hammock sipping an ice tea.
We still need to grow.
SERVICE! Opportunities to serve Christ and his Kingdom do not slow down just because it is summer.
Sometimes they multiply in the pleasant weather. From Vacation Bible School to service opportunities
here at the church or even spontaneous mission opportunities in Indiana County or wherever the Lord
sends us, the summer is a great time to serve.

What I’m trying to say is that while I do pray you have a great summer, let’s remember at all times the one who
has provided the summer for us. Just keep Jesus is in your summer planning. And you will have a great summer!
God loves you, and so do I

JULY 2019 WORSHIP HIGHLIGHTS
July 7, 2019
Scripture: Luke 6:27-36
“BELIEVE – Kindness”
Being kind doesn’t come natural to us, and we have to really work at it. We are
called to be kind.
July 14, 2019
Scripture: Matthew 25:14-30
“BELIEVE – Faithfulness”
Being faithful is a HUGE commitment. But we are not in the commitment alone. Jesus will give you and me
faithfulness.
The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated.
July 21, 2019
Scripture: Matthew 11:25-30
“BELIEVE – Gentleness”
Gentleness is a lost value in our current society. As believers and followers of Christ, we do need to bring that
value back.
July 28, 2019
Scripture: Philippians 2:3–4
“BELIEVE – Humility”
As we finish the “BELIEVE” series, we look at humility. It’s not natural. But it is Christ-like.

Life-Way Pregnancy Center’s Change for Life Campaign…
One again, as part of our mission outreach we will be collecting change for Life-Way
Pregnancy Center. The organization helps men, women and children. It provides pregnancy
and parenting education as well as adoption and after-abortion healing and support. They
also lend a hand for those in need of maternity and baby/nursery supplies.
So how far does change go? Well in 2018 through their fill a baby bottle campaign they
raised $28,300, so yes change adds up and makes a difference! Stop by the mission table in
the Narthex and pick up a bottle to fill. You can fill your bottle with more than change and checks are acceptable
too, just make payable to “Life-Way Pregnancy Center”. We will be collecting bottles through the month of July.
PRAYER WALK ON SUNDAY, JULY 21
Over the past year or so a number of area pastors have been
attending what is being called the Indiana Clergy Network; the
main focus of the network has been prayer. I was invited to attend
by the late Dave Wasemann, whose wonderful influence is still
quite palpable at our gatherings.
On Sunday afternoon, July 14, at 4:00 p.m. there is planned a
county-wide neighborhood prayer walk; but being that the
Community Vacation Bible School for Marion Center starts that
evening, the timing for me (us) isn’t good.
So the plan here in Marion Center is to participate on the following Sunday, July 21 at 4:00 p.m. The goal is to
gather up as many Christians as we can and walk through and pray over our neighborhoods.
I want to encourage you to gather at the corner of Main and Manor at 4:00 p.m. and we’ll go from there. Let’s
walk through and pray over our neighborhoods.
