LIGHT OF THE WORLD
Epiphany can be understood as an extension of the Na-tivity of the Lord that we celebrate on December 25.
While at Christmas we cel-ebrate Jesus’ coming as the long-awaited king and Messiah of the Jewish peo-ple, on Epiphany we cele-brate the revelation that Jesus is the Savior and Light of all nations—Jews, Gentiles, and all people. The star shines so brightly that it attracts ma-gi who come from far dis-tant countries to worship Jesus. They are not Jews, yet they are drawn to the Light of the world. The let-ter to the Ephesians re-veals that the Light of the
world was for the Gentiles as well as the Jews—Christ gathers all people into the light of his love. The reading from Isaiah also describes a gathering of diverse peo-ples, but this time it is to the light that emanates from the people of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Semana Nacional del Migrante 5 – 11 de enero 2020
Durante casi medio siglo, la Iglesia Católica en los Estados Unidos ha celebrado la Semana Nacional del Migrante, una oportunidad única para que la Iglesia reflexione acerca de las circunstancias a las que se
enfrentan los migrantes, refugiados, niños, víctimas y sobrevivientes de la trata de personas. El tema de la Semana Nacional del Migrante 2020 refleja la necesi-dad de que los católicos sean inclusivos y acogan a todos nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Es un llamado a la unidad para solidarizarse y cuidar a los excluidos y marginados. Estamos llamados a ser una Iglesia activa que brin-da apoyo de todos los hijos de Dios, porque “la Igle-sia en ‘salida’... sabe adelantarse, tomar la iniciativa sin miedo, salir al encuentro, buscar a los lejanos y
llegar a los cruces de los caminos para invitar a los exclui-dos.” (Evangelii Gaudium, 24). Con este ideal en mente, -un llamado por una iglesia que aco-ja, proteja, promueva e integre a todos, incluidos los inmigran-tes y los refugiados. Acoger con beneplácito significa, sobre to-do, “ofrecer opciones más amplias para que los migrantes y los refugiados ingresen a los países de destino de manera segura y
legal”. La protección de los migrantes “puede entenderse como una serie de pasos destinados a defender los derechos y la dignidad de los migrantes, independientemente de su estatus legal.” Promoción esencialmente significa realizar un “esfuerzo destinado a asegurar que todos los migrantes y refugiados, así como las comunidades que los acogen, estén capacitados para alcanzar su potencial como seres hu-manos y en todas las dimensiones que constituyen su humanidad”. La integración enfatiza las “oportunidades para el enriquecimiento intercultural provocado por la presencia de migrantes y refugiados”. Promoting a Church and a World for All
National Migration Week 5 – 11 January 2020
For nearly a half century, the Catholic Church in the United States has celebrated National Migration Week, which is an op-portunity for the Church to reflect on the circumstances con-fronting migrants, including immigrants, refugees, children, and victims and survivors of human trafficking. The theme for National Migration Week 2020 reflects the need for Catholics to be inclusive and welcoming to all our brothers and sisters. It is a call for unity to stand in solidarity with and care for those who are excluded and marginalized.
We are called to be an active Church in support of all of God’s children, for “the Church which ‘goes forth’... can move for-ward, boldly take the initiative, go out to others, seek those who have fallen away, stand at the crossroads and welcome the outcast” (Evangelii Gaudium, 24). It is with this ideal in mind – that we call for a church that welcomes, protects, promotes, and inte-grates all, including immigrants and refugees. Wel-coming means, above all, “offering broader op-tions for migrants and refugees to enter destination countries safely and legally.” Protecting migrants “may be understood as a series of steps intended to defend the rights and dignity of migrants, independent of their legal status.” Promoting essen-tially means a “determined effort to ensure that all migrants and refugees – as well as the communities which welcome them – are empowered to achieve their potential as human beings, in all the dimensions which constitute their humanity.” Integrating emphasizes the “opportunities for intercultural enrichment brought about by the presence of migrants and refugees.”
Let us take some time during National Migration Week to re-flect on how we can better welcome, protect, promote, and inte-grate migrants living in our midst. How can we counter the glob-alization of indifference that affects us all, to some degree or another? What policies can we promote that will affirm the digni-ty of migrants and better secure the common good? How do we work more fully to promote a Church for all?

Parish Board of Directors’ Elections
As announced last Sunday, the term of a current lay member on the Parish Board of Directors, Tom Meixner, expires on 20 January, 2020. Fr. Kiké has re-nominated Tom Meixner for a second term. In addition to Father’s nomination, registered members of the parish may submit names for this position by obtaining a total of 10 registered member’s signatures in support of the nominee and turning them into the Parish Office. Nomination forms are available in the Parish Office. For more information about the position, and the eligibility requirements, please call Fr. Kiké (795-1633 x 105). Nominations will close on 6 January. If more nominations are submitted, a parish election will be held on the weekend of 18–19 January and all registered members of our parish over the age of 18 are eligible to vote.

El programa catequético funciona mejor cuando la educación ocu-rre en casa, así como en el salón de clases. Classes resume this Sunday, 5 January Students must be registered to attend scheduled classes each Sunday through April. Preparation for the Sacraments of Recon-ciliation, First Communion and Confirmation require a two con-secutive year process. A student must be enrolled since August. The catechetical program works best when education takes place at home as well as in the classroom. At the beginning of the year, it is important to remember that you are on a spiritual path together with your children. You can participate more sub-stantially in your children's faith formation and in the parish community by being aware of what your children are learning and by praying together as a family.
A family prayer for you: O God, we long to know you and to love you, but the busy-ness of life often gets in the way. Help us to recognize the ordinary, daily ways that our family can learn about you and grow closer to you. We know that you are with us, leading us and guiding us on our way. Amen

Br. Henrry Is Returning to El Salvador

It is time to say, "See you soon.” There are moments in our lives, whether by grace or blessing, when things point to and lead us along paths that enrich us and encourage us to continue to respond joyfully to the choice God has made for each one of us.
One of those paths that the Lord has taken me to is the internship experience that I have had in North American lands since August 2018. Now, in the last days of my internship, I am writing this letter from the enriching experience of my work and experience throughout 18 months in St. Cyril of Alexandria Par-ish together with the parish communities that joined as formators of my process and companions of my vocation, not only as friends but also as an embracing and welcoming family.
Time flies, and on January 8th I will return to my country with mixed feelings: on one hand, the joy of being with my family and my brothers in the Order after two years away; and on the other hand, the sadness and melancholy of leaving excellent people who have only reflected in me their desire to follow in the footsteps of the Good Jesus.
Saying thank you is not enough for me, because there are so many words I would like to express to each one of you. I admit that when I left El Salvador for the city of Tucson, there was an enormous curiosity or fear in me about whether I could over-come the obstacles and challenges that would appear during this time. However, it was, and continues to be, engraved in my heart the greatest motivation that moves my daily journey since I entered the Order of Carmen: “to live in the gift of Jesus Christ” (cf. Rule, prologue). Perhaps at the beginning I did not understand it, but it has been of great help, or it has been that oasis in the middle of the desert, to arrive in a community where as part of its DNA is the testimony of fraternal life and accompaniment that can quench that thirst of intense search for God. The internship causes one to expose oneself and reveal the gifts given by God, as well as our difficulties and limitations. In my experience, this parish and the communities with which I have lived have become very good friends, who ended up know-ing me so well that they can accurately perceive my mood, what is happening to me, or how my vocation is. In that sense, this experience has allowed me to concretize a very specific chal-lenge proposed by the Gospel: faith and salvation are not lived alone; one lives in community, or as one of our martyrs in El Salvador, Father Rutilio Grande, would say, “we have to save ourselves in clusters, in cobs, in matata, in other words, in com-munity!” May God be the one to guide me on this journey, filling me with wisdom through good and not-so-good experiences. I hope to continue to receive your prayers, which are extremely im-portant to me, just as you receive mine. With deep affection,

Es tiempo de decir: “Hasta Pronto.” Hay momentos en nuestras vidas, sea por gracia o bendición en que las cosas apuntan y dirigen por sende-ros buenos que nos enriquecen y animan para seguir respondiendo con alegría a la opción que Dios ha hecho por cada uno de nosotros.
Uno de esos senderos a los que el Señor me ha lleva-do es esta experiencia de Internado que estoy realizan-do desde Agosto del 2018 en tierras norteamericanas. Ahora, en mis últimos días de Internado, escribo esta carta desde la enriquecedora vivencia de mi trabajo y experiencia a lo largo de estos dieciocho meses en la Parroquia San Cirilo de Alejandría junto a las comunida-
des parroquiales que se sumaron a ser formadores de mi proceso y acompañantes de mi vocación, siendo no sólo amigos sino familia que abraza y acoge.
El tiempo vuela, y ya el 8 de enero regresaré a mi país con senti-mientos encontrados, por un lado, la alegría de volver a estar con mi familia, y mis hermanos en la Orden después de dos años, y por otro lado, la tristeza y melancolía de dejar a excelentes personas que lo único que han hecho es reflejarme su deseo de seguir los pasos del Buen Jesús.
Decir gracias para mí no es suficiente, ya que son tantas las pala-bras que quisiera expresarles a cada uno de ustedes. Admito que cuando salí de El Salvador rumbo a la ciudad de Tucson, existía en mí una curiosidad o temor enorme, de si podría superar los obstácu-los y retos que en este tiempo aparecerían. Sin embargo, estaba y continúa estando grabada en mi corazón la mayor motivación que mueve mis jornadas diarias desde que entré a la Orden del Carmen: “vivir en obsequio de Jesucristo” (cfr. Regla, prólogo). Tal vez al principio no lo comprendía, pero ha sido de gran ayuda o ha sido ese oasis en medio del desierto el llegar a una comunidad donde lo que forma parte de su ADN es el testimonio de vida fraterna y acompañamiento que permite saciar esa sed de intensa búsqueda de Dios. El Internado provoca que uno se exponga y devele los regalos y dones que Dios dió a cada uno, como también las dificultades y limi-taciones que traemos. En mi experiencia, ésta parroquia y éstas comunidades con las que he convivido se han convertido en muy buenos amigos, que terminaron conociéndome tan bien que pueden percibir certeramente cómo está mi ánimo, qué me pasa o cómo está mi vocación. En ése sentido, esta experiencia me ha permitido concretizar un desafío muy específico que propone el Evangelio: la fe y la salvación no se vive sólo, se vive en comunidad o como diría uno de nuestros mártires en El Salvador, el padre Rutilio Grande “nos tenemos que salvar en racimo, en mazorca, en matata, o sea, ¡en comunidad!” Dios sea quien vaya guiándome en este caminar, llenándome de sabiduría a través de experiencias buenas y de las no tan buenas. Espero seguir recibiendo de ustedes sus oraciones que son suma-mente importantes para mí al igual que ustedes reciben las mías. Con cariño profundo,

to Meet during January
Spiritual Direction enables one to develop a deeper rela-tionship with the Divine – with God. It enables us to pay attention to God’s personal communication to us, our personal response to Him, to grow in intimacy and love with Him and to live out the consequences of our relationship. St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish will provide a Spiritual Direction group for all who wish to develop a deeper relationship with God beginning Sunday, 5 January from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM in the Retreat Room. The group will meet during the Sundays in Janu-ary, and be facilitated by Steve LeGendre, an approved Diocese of Tucson spiritual director and lay ecclesial minister. Baptism Preparation Session in English
Parents of infants and/or toddlers who wish to have them baptized are required to participate in a Baptism Preparation Session. These classes are only offered five times a year, and not every month, so parents need to plan ahead.
The next class in English is on Sunday, 19 January
11:30 AM – 1:30 PM in the Retreat Room This class is in preparation for baptism celebrations on Sundays, 9 February or 26 April. We do not celebrate Baptisms during Lent (26 February – 12 April). The next class will be Sunday, 15 March.
Parents are encouraged to attend the 10 AM Mass and pro-ceed to class afterward. If you, or someone you know, is planning to baptize a child, please contact Mary Ann in the Parish Office (795-1633 x 107 or [email protected]) to register. Do not select Godparents until after communicating with Mary Ann.

tismo que se llevaran a cabo los sábados 1 de febrero o 18 de abril. No celebramos los bautismos durante la cuaresma (26 de febrero – 12 de abril). La próxima serie será los lunes 9 y 16 de marzo.
