Lighting
Why is lighting important?
Lighting is effective in all films, however I think that it adds a lot more to the film in
the horror genre, this is because it can helpraise tension and changes the whole film, for
example, having more dark means that the filmis more mysterious and shows the unknown, whereas
highlights would cause a more ghostly effect.
For example this image from scream 1 shows dark shadows across her face, this creates the feeling of
isolation and the thought that the unknown is approaching, whereas the highlights shows her emotions
and fear of what is happening.
How did we use lighting?
We decided to go against stereotypes with our Lighting, so instead of setting it at night or changing the adjustment so everything's
dark we decided to challenge this convention and change it so our film was filmed in day light,
I think it worked well as it shows that the audience is not safe no matter what time of day it is, also without
dark I think it represents Elizabeth well as she is hurt and distressed too.
Effects on the audience…
I think that our use of lighting is good as we challenge the stereotype well
and I think this does make the audience uneasy as usually in horrors its at night that the killers come out, but with it
being in daytime is just makes the audience fear every part of the day instead of feeling like
they’re safer when its light.
