Description: An Inspirational LDS themed onstage using photoshop and typography.

Date: 10/26/14 Course/Instructor: Comm.130 Section 4 Joel Judkins

Program(s) tools: Photoshop Objectives: To learn how to use layers in Photoshop, and how to blend images together while also using appropriate typograpghy.

process: While deciding on a theme, I knew that I wanted to make it centered

around Latter-Day Saint teachings, and I wanted to capture something with the temple in this project. Each image I used was from LDS.org, and I put each of them into photoshop. Next I used the saturation and vibrance tools for the image of the Rexburg, Idaho temple. next, I masked the images of the hands and the girl, and used the black paint and brush tools to fade out the edges of the original images. I also changed their opacity levels to make the girl and the hands images blend in more with the overall design. For the typography, I chose a quote by Elder Stevenson regarding temples.

Photodesign:

Description: A piece of photo design work by me to show to demon-strate good photography and image editing skills.Date:10/18/14

Course/Instructor:Comm.130 Section 4Joel Judkins

Program(s) tools:Photoshop

Objectives: To learn basic photograghy skills and using a high quality digital camera. Using various saturation and editing tools to edit pictures and create a montage with selected image.

process:First, I thought of various ideas on how I wanted make the design. For my color scheme, I chose to use a tetradic color scheme. For the image I used, I wanted to to capture something simple, yet with meaning. Lo-cated near the Rexburg, Idaho Temple is a local Latter-Day Saint church house; and with the light the sunset was giving off on the building, I chose to take a picture of the setting to use for the project. Next, I put the image into photoshop to begin designing. I used different saturation, lighting, vibrance to help make the picture brighter and add more con-trast compared to how it was originally. I also used the sharpening tool to help make the picture more clear and focused.I decided to use multiple shapes, rectangles, to use as swatches to display the color scheme. For the text, I put in a popular quote by Ann M. Dibb among the LDS commu-nity to help represent the message of the picture. Once I moved the text around the image, I began to edit the photo more within the design. I de-cided to use a special fading brush tool to fade out the edges of the image to help make it stand out more among the shapes and be more of a focal point. For the typography, I tried to keep it simple, mainly to harmonize with the color scheme.

Description: Black and white flier informing seniors about the Gradu-ate Leadership Conference.Date:10/7/14

Course/Instructor:Comm.130 Section 4Joel Judkins

Program(s) tools:Adobe Indesign

Objectives: To apply design principles with proper ty-pograpghy. Also, to apply Indesign tehinques and prinic-ples to a project.

process:

Flier:

I began this project by sketching four different ideas for the flier. Then, I began to use Adobe Indesign to begin designing the flier and experiment which idea would work best for this project. All of the information used on this flier was given, and after editing and formatting the text into the flier, I chose two fonts. I created a black space behind the title and a slim black line on the bottom of the page to contrast and harmonize with the logo and image used. The body copy was kept small to balance out the focal points in the flier. Also, I spaced the text within the body copy to help make the text more readable and clear.

Objectives: To learn how to use the bascis of Illustrator and Indesign together. Also, how to design a business card and letterhead to match a personally made logo for a company.

process:

Letterhead:

I began to design a new logo using Adobe illustrator. I traced the perfume bottle using the pen tool on over an image I found from Google Images. I then used the pen tool to create spray-like semi-spirals to surround the perfume bottle. Next, I used the shape tool to create different thin rect-angles to break-up the whitespace in the letterhead. I wanted to create a contemporary, yet, classy feel with the stationary, so I chose an analogous color scheme. I also used Adobe indesign to copy the logo and edit the logo; mainly the typography.

process:

Business Card:

I began to design a new logo using Adobe illustrator. I traced the perfume bottle using the pen tool on over an image I found from Google Images. I then used the pen tool to create spray-like semi-spirals to surround the perfume bottle. Next, I used the shape tool to create different thin rectangles to break-up the whitespace in both the letterhead and business card. I wanted to keep as much consistency be-tween the letterhead and business card as possible, so I chose to put the logo in the top left corner of both pieces of stationary. I wanted to create a contemporary, yet, classy feel with the stationary, so I chose an analogous color scheme. I also used Adobe indesign to copy the logo and edit the logo; mainly the typography.

Description: This is a full-bleed event ad created only using Microsoft Word and a scanner.

Date:10/12/14

Course/Instructor:Comm.130 Section 4Joel Judkins

Program(s) tools:Mocrosoft WordScanner

Objectives: To scan an image in high quality. Also, how to create a full-bleed document using Word.

process:

Event Ad:

First, I took the image and scanned it onto the document. Next, I filled the document with the image, making it more of a focal point for the ad. I then added two rectangular shapes to break up the image. I used a glow, transparent, and shadow effect for each rectangle; I also did the same for each of the circles used. In the largest circle I placed the text box and inserted the text.

Description: This is a trifold brochure I made using Adobe Il-lustrator, Adobe Indesign, and Photoshop.

Date:12/7/14Course/Instructor:Comm.130 Section 4 Joel Judkins

Program(s) tools:Adobe IllustratorAdobe IndesignPhotoshop

Objectives: To set up and properly align a brochure. Also how to use paragragh styles in a brochure document.

process:

Brochure:

First I used Indesign to format the layout of the brochure. While using indesign, I added in the photo of the music staff. I enlarged the picture to make it more full-bleed, and with the pen tool, I added in various music notes to create a flow of music that continues throughout the bottom of the brochure. Also, using the pen tool, I created the echo sound waves that are next to the title of the brochure. For the titles on the inside portion of the, I chose to use a gradient design within the text boxes to keep an echo-like them throughout the brochure. The background design on the front of the brochure is also a style of gradient, however, I centered the design to create a larger echoed effect with the text.

In adobe Illustrator, I created a microphone logo that is found on the out-side of the brochure. I found an image for Google Images, and inserted the image into Illustrator and used the pen tool to trace the image. I then filled in the image with black paint.

For the microphone image found on the outside of the brochure, I wanted to take the tone down with the amount of dark color the original image had. With this in mind, I decided to fade out part of the image and tone down the transparency of the picture.

Description: Three different logo designs for the same com-pany

Date:11/1/14

Course/Instructor:Comm.130 Section 4Joel Judkins

Program(s) tools:Adobe Illustrator

Objectives: To use the basics of Illustrator. Also, to create a variety of logos for a company.

process:

Logos:

For this project, I thought of three different possible designs. I chose to have two designs have a graphic, while keeping it simple with one typography with one design. for the first logo, I used the pen tool to create the shape of a perfume bottle. I took an image from Google and used he pen tool to trace the shape. I then deleted the image I traced from and colored in the perfume bottle I created using the pen tool. I then used the text tool to put in the company’s name and used another color to fit the color scheme of the logo design. I also used the pathfinder tool to trim the edges of the perfume bottle. For the middle logo, I chose to make it simple, yet classy, with a mod-ern-like font. I then changed the middle section of the logo to emphasize the main focus of the logo and to help fit in the color scheme. For the bottom logo, I used an image from Google to trace a hand holding a perfume bottle wight the pen tool. Once I was done tracing the image, I deleted the image I used from Google. I wanted to capture that moment of actually spraying perfume from the bottle, so I added black strokes using the airbrush tool to illustrate perfume sprays coming out of the bottle. I then added the compa-ny name next to the sprays to make it appear that the bottle is spraying the company name.

Description: This is a webpage I designed to showcase a logo I personally made.

Date:11/23/14

Course/Instructor:Comm.130 Section 4Joel Judkins Program(s) tools:Text-wrangler

Objectives: To size and optomize a personally made logo into a personally created webpage. Also, how to design a webpage using Tex-wrangler and understanding the basics of HTML and CSS

process:

Webpage:

To design this webpage I used text-wrangler. Before this assignment, I had never done anything with HTML or CSS, however, after learning the basics, I found that it was not as hard as it appeared; it just takes time and patience. Once inserted all of the correct tags into my HTML page, I typed in the text content describing the thought process for the logo I designed. Next, I opened a CSS document and inserted the color scheme I wanted, I added an image to replace the solid color background, and I also changed to typography to unify the web page. To change the colors I used photoshop to find the correct color to the color scheme I chose. Once I found the right color, I inserted the hex color code into the CSS document. By doing that, that colors changed to how I wanted them to be.
