We are hoping parents could give 1 hour of their Saturday to cook sausages, sell cakes and drinks while you vote! We thank you in advance of your hour to support some fundraising for our school. Please refer to our Skoolbag app that has a link to the roster, just add your name to the time that suits you. Alternatively contact the canteen managers or the P and C to add your name to the list. Melanoma Mufti Day We are all so grateful to all of our families who have supported the Beaumont family and donated to the Melanoma Institute on Monday this week. It was a great privilege to have Jay Allen talk with our students at assembly. It warms ones heart when we see a community gather around a family in difficult times. Throughout this campaign, the Lilli Pilli PS community have raised over $3000 in Melinda Beaumont’s name. I could not be more proud of our achievements. Christchurch Tragedy Following the act of terrorism in Christchurch las week, many people will experience strong emotional and/or physical reactions. People may feel the need to share their anger, sorrow and acknowledge loss, even if they are not directly impacted by the event. For most people, these reactions will subside over a few days or weeks. For some, the feelings and reactions may last longer. If distress is observed it may include some or all of the following. Some students may experience anxiety associated with a sense of loss of security and safety. Some students may experience reactivation of previous problems. Some students may become more sensitive to issues of justice and equity. Some students may demonstrate behaviour changes such as withdrawal or acting out. There may be peer conflict. Some students may carry the anger of others and may seek to express it. What can we do to support our students? Help students feel safe. Re-assure students of their safety at school; comfort them, remind them that they are safe and that these sorts of events are very rare. Maintain normal routines and schedules. Deal with fears by reminding students that many good things still occur in the world. Help children to separate angry thoughts and feelings about specific people who behave in violent ways from the larger cultural or religious group to which those people may belong. Remind students if they are feeling distressed that it is important to talk to someone they trust such as a family member, friend, teacher or school counselling staff member. School counselling staff will be available to support students. If students would like to speak with someone anonymously confidential sources of support are: Kids Helpline (1800 551 800 or www.kidshelp.com.au) Headspace (1800 650 890 or www.eheadspace.org.au ) Have a good week everyone… Mrs Jane Shepherd Principal

WORLD’S GREATEST SHAVE As part of our SRC commitment this year to increase awareness of health and wellbeing issues and in doing so raise money for health institutions, Year 5 have decided to take part in the World's Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation – we’re on a mission to shave the world from blood cancer! To try and raise as much money as possible, the Year 5 teachers are willing to put the hair on their heads up for removal. On Tuesday 9 April, at approximately 12:25pm, Mr Longmuir and Mr Paget will be having their heads shaved. To raise as much money as possible, we have decided to set some target amounts. Up to $1000 – Both teachers to shave their heads with a number 1. Over $2500 – Both teachers to shave their heads bald and Mr Longmuir to shave his beloved beard. Please sponsor us to give families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need. You’ll also fund vital research to help more people survive blood cancers, while improving their quality of life. Every day another 35 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer. That’s one Aussie every 41 minutes. Although research is improving survival, sadly an Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours. Will you help by sponsoring us? Please go to the following link http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/year5lpps or go to the World’s Greatest Shave Website, click on Donate to a shaver, Sponsor whole team and type in Year 5 Lpps and sponsor our team today! We only have a few weeks to raise as much money as we can so let’s get to it! We thank you for your support, Year 5 students. LIVING WITH PETS Last week the K-2 students participated in ‘Living Safely with Pets Program’. They learnt how to care for dogs and staying safe around pets and dogs. The students met a beautiful black Doberman called Jax. Mrs Melissa Smith
