LIMBS Summit 2016 Design Competition - Call forProposalsLIMBS International will host a Design Competition at the 4th Annual LIMBS Summit incooperation with The University of Texas at El Paso-College of Engineering on Friday, June3, 2016. The Summit provides a platform where research students from around the worldcan gather to share the progress they have made over the past year toward developing low-cost prosthetic devices of various kinds. The summit is a one of a kind an opportunity tolearn, collaborate and discover opportunities for ongoing research and development ofProsthetic & Orthotic devices for the world’s neediest people with disabilities.
In anticipation of the 2016 LIMBS Summit we are issuing a call for proposals.
Students from Clemson University present their project at the 2015 LIMBS Summit
Competition DetailsProjects for the Design Competition shall be lowcost Prosthetic or Orthotic technologiesfor developing countries. These projects must be developed by a student or team ofstudents in a BS or MS program during the 20152016 academic year. At least onestudent from the design team must attend the Summit on the campus of UTEP onJune 3, 2016 and present the project at the event. Project submissions are subject toapproval.
Register your team by October 1, 2015 to enter a design in thecompetitionTo register, send an email [email protected] with the following information:

4. Brief Project Description
Additional Information:
All teams must address the limitations and needs of low income patients around the worldand produce a prototype that meets the technological, economic and social requirements ofpatients in developing nations. Designs will be judged by attending students and professorswith cash prizes awarded to the winners.
Competition Judging:
Judging will be based on innovation of the design and adherence to the design criteriaincluding the robustness and completeness of the final report. Teams are strongly urged toconsider the judging criteria while develop their abstract and presentation.

The following cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of the competition:
First place $1000
Second place $500
Third place $250

A design proposal must be submitted by December 9, 2015
The proposal must be two pages and include the team’s motivation for the project,objectives, methods, specific goals and outcomes of the project. Any preliminary sketchesor images should be included. Teams that register for the competition will be sent areminder and a copy of the proposal template in November.

A project Abstract must be submitted by April 29, 2016.
At least one member of the team must present their research and findings at the LIMBSSummit to win. Registration for the summit is required at the time of the abstractsubmission. Teams whose proposals have been accepted for inclusion in the competitionwill be sent a reminder and a copy of the abstract template in early April.
