“If we ask why the time of the Passover and the salvation of the firstborn is taken to be the beginning of the year, the answer must surely be that the sacrifice of the true Passover is for

us the beginning of eternal life.

Because it revolves in cycles and never comes to an end, the year is the symbol of eternity.

Christ, the sacrifice that was offered for us, is the beginning of the world to come. He puts an end to our former life, and through the regenerating waters of baptism in which we imitate his death and resurrection, he gives us the beginning of a new life.”

- Saint John Chrysostom, Fourth Century

Communion Hymn Take and Eat

Michael Joncas Text and Music: Michael Joncas. © 1989, GIA Publications, Inc.

Spiritual Communion It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily.

All: My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen. Prayer after Communion

Sequence On Easter Sunday, a special hymn, called the Sequence, is added after the second reading, before the Gospel Acclamation. Known by its Latin title Victimae Paschali Laudes, the Easter Sequence announces the praise of the Paschal Victim, Jesus, who has conquered sin and death. This Easter Sequence, which is one of four sequences that is sung throughout the liturgical year, has been part of the Mass of Easter Sunday since the eleventh century.

and generosity.

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal organization for men. We are a Catholic men's organization doing charitable work. Our charitable activities encompass an almost infinite variety of local, national and international projects, from international charitable partnerships with Special Olympics, the Global Wheelchair Mission and Habitat for Humanity, to our own Food for Families and Coats for Kids projects and other local charities. The opportunity to work together with fellow Knights and their families is virtually endless. Also available are the Ladies Auxiliary and Squires (young men’s organization).
