Spiritual Communion It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. Second Reading Colossians 3:1-4 “Seek what is above, where Christ is.”

Sequence On Easter Sunday, a special hymn, called the Sequence, is added after the second reading, before the Gospel Acclamation. Known by its Latin title Victimae Paschali Laudes, the Easter Sequence announces the praise of the Paschal Victim, Jesus, who has conquered sin and death. This Easter Sequence, which is one of four sequences that is sung throughout the liturgical year, has been part of the Mass of Easter Sunday since the eleventh century.
