A Weekly Newsletter for The Sanctuary Choir of First Baptist Church

To the greatest choir in South-

east Arkansas: Repetition can be a great deadener. Some-

times worship falls into that deadly rut,

losing its freshness and excitement.

But no matter how many times I repeat it,

thank you does not begin to express my

gratitude to you and your leadership last

Sunday. I have heard nothing but praises

(see page 2 for a couple) of your singing

and presentation. Thank you for your help

in making this service so special. Your

contribution made it a worthy day, not

only for me but for all those in attendance.

May God bless you as we continue to

celebrate His love through music.

Christmas Music Preview. Tonight, I am so excited to introduce the

music and ministry we will share this

Christmas. Some of this music has been

done in years past and several pieces are

new. The music is in the manila envelopes

in order to keep the Christmas music

separate from our regular music. All the

music is in alphabetical order to aid in

quickly locating the pieces for rehearsals.

Prior to the presentation date, we will re-

order the music for presentation.

Special Note: The piece, “God Is Near”

will be used each Sunday of Advent to

aid in the lighting of the Advent Wreath.

This piece is in your Christmas envelope

for that purpose, not the presentation.

This year’s presentation, “The Joy of

Christmas,” will be on DECEMBER 11

at 6:00 p.m. The first Christmas Music

rehearsal is next Wednesday, October 5 at

6:45 p.m. with two (2) Bonus Rehearsals,

November 6 and December 10.

A complete rehearsal schedule is in the

packet. Please note that it is suitable for

hanging on your refrigerator. If it appears

more time is needed, I will let you know

ASAP. If we have great attendance at the

rehearsals listed, I truly believe we will be

ready to sing on the Sunday Morning’s of

December as well as the Christmas pres-

entation on the 11th.

Thank you in advance for the powerful

ministry you will offer as we celebrate the

Christ of Christmas this year. Thank you

for being fully engaged in rehearsals, for

working outside of rehearsals, for singing

on Sundays, and for continuing to nurture

your own walk with the Lord. Remember,

we don’t just sing, we lead worship!

Question:

Why do people shake hands?

Scripture:

James 1:22

* * * * *

L ong ago, men often carried weap-

ons in their right hand. It you

wanted to show that you were

friendly, you held out your empty right

hand so that the other person could see

that your weren’t holding a weapon. That

person held out his empty right hand to

show you the same thing. To keep each

other from reaching for a hidden weapon,

you would grab each other hand’s and

hold them for a moment until you were

sure of friendly feelings. Although no

one knows for sure, some people think

that the hands were shaken up and down

so that if either man had a weapon hid-

den up his sleeve, it would fall out.

Shaking hands is a pleasant way to greet

people, compared to the custom in Tibet.

In that country, bumping heads together

used to be part of the official greeting

when to people met!

So What?

Holding you hand out in friendship is an

action that Jesus likes. He want us to be

king and caring toward each other. The

Bible says:

“Be doers of the word, and not hearers

only.” —James 1:22, NKJV

We share Christian love best when we

show it instead of just talking about it.

For example, suppose a [visitor was

wondering the halls of the church. If you

told them, “Keep looking, you’ll eventu-

ally find where you need to be,” and

walked away, you would be telling but

not showing. It would please God much

more if you would ask, “Why don’t you

come join my Sunday School class?”]

Offer a helping hand—not just a helping

word—whenever you can.

Did You Know?

Promises from God’s Word

God’s Promise from Psalm 30:5 (NCV)

“Crying may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”

What Does This Mean For Me?

There are sad things that happen in this world, and everyone goes through

times when they feel sad. When you trust God, you know that sooner or later

God will bring joy back into your life, and your sadness can end.
