Welcome to our JAN/FEB edition of LINK-Magazine.

Happy New Year from all of us at LINK-Magazine but by the time you’re reading this, many of you may have already broken their New Year resolutions but not here at LINK. News from Poulton Fortunately, the recent winds held off for the highly successful Poulton Christmas Festival on 2 December – a really good event that saw the town packed with people enjoying the season.

Much like the return of the weekly market, which brings the market square to life every Monday, and will now be a permanent weekly event. The

number of stalls has increased, and its fame is spreading, drawing shoppers into the town centre to make the place successful.

Everyone who contributes to the community is now turning their minds to the Spring and the In Bloom competition, which will see Poulton transformed into a riot of colour, and then of course the next Poulton Gala will be just around the corner.

Hambletons Women’s InstituteWe welcomed in our New Year’s Meeting with the Piper Mr Ted Freaney who played a selection of Scottish Airs including “Maries Wedding” that got us in the mood after an excellent buffet supplied by the “Shovels Inn” accompanied by a “wee dram” and off we went into scottish country dancing.

We were shown how to do it properly by a delightful six strong team of kilted male and female dancers from Preston, we were all encouraged to join in and enjoy ourselves which we did, doing “The Lancers” and quite a few dances from our childhood. Doris Boyle won Best Dancer award, Chris Seed came second and Jeannie Nuttall was third. Sue Davies gave the vote of thanks.
