Doana National Park is the most well-known and amazing natural area in Spain.

One of the biggest ecological preserve in Europe. Its dunes, reserves, seasonal

wetlands, lakes and river-side forests are protected by different legal laws,

amongst which the national park and the game reserve are the most relevant.

Located in the catchment area where river Guadalquivir born, its proximity to the

African continent and the influence of the neighboring seas gives this area

a biodiversity of international importance. In these settings, where nature

overwhelms the traveler, certain emblematic species find refuge, such as

the Iberian lynx and the Spanish imperial eagle, both of which are native Iberian

    species in danger of extinction.

these settings, certain emblematic species find

refuge, such as the Iberian lynx and the Spanish

imperial eagle. Both are native Iberian species in

danger of extinction. Over the year, more than

340 species of birds can be seen. As a place of

global importance for aquatic birds, it is place formore than 500,000 members in a right period.

You will exclusively enjoy these Andaluca

preserves accessing restricted areas that no

tourist can see. From the private reserve of ElCoot del Rey you can observe the marshlandsbirds, including the Imperial Eagle, and the last

Leave at dawn and in an off-road vehicle, driven by

expert guides who will take you into the park. We

are going to lynxs territory. After brunch, we follow

the bank where the grounds and marsh meet: an

area rich in prey and predators. Rabbits, deer and

fallow deer graze along the bank, stalked by the lynx.

The raptors patrol their hunting grounds. In the

marshland observe the fauna of a new habitat, a

kingdom of aquatic life. Flamingos, red-knobbed

coots, the squacco heron, anatidae, and purple

swamphens are on an endless list of fantastic birdlife

    found in the marshes.

The different seasons offer a varying landscape. The

winter is spectacular with a concentration of winter

birds in its swamps. The spring covers its marshes

with a tapestry of colorful flowers. The overbearing

summer marks a time in which certain species raise

their young, and autumn, which waits anxiously for

the return of its waters and migrating birds. The

history of Doana is linked to kings and nobles who

Today, visit the Lynx Breeding Centre inside the park and we take a talk with the biologist and

project manager about their efforts to save the critically endangered Iberian Lynx . After breakfast, leave for a new safari along the private reserve El Coto del Rey searching lynxes. Then, visit RocinaForest and the historic Acebrn Palace. Make a journey on foot along one of the oldest and bestconserved riverside forests in our Peninsula. In its streams and ponds, the otter reigns.

    Day 4 DOANANATIONALPARK

We set off at dawn in our off-road vehicle,

driven by our expert guides who will take us

into the park. After crossing the famous AjoliBridge, the unofficial border between RocoVillage and the reserve, we enter into the lynxs

territory, which we can be tracking in the sand,

and watching them as they seek shelter beneath

the mastic trees. We will cross areas where the

centuries-old cork oak trees testify to the

    preserves ancient vegetation.

We have a marshland-styled brunch in la Galvija

Restaurant, in the former house to the

guardians of the reserve El Coto del Rey. Afterbrunch, we follow the bank where the grounds

and the marsh meet; an area rich in prey, and

therefore in predators also. Rabbits, deer and

fallow deer graze along the bank stalked by the

lynx. The raptors are plentiful as they patrol

their hunting grounds. Among them we find the

imperial eagle, the booted eagle, the black kite,

the red kite, griffon vultures, goshawks,

Eurasian eagle-owls, blue-winged kites, or the

merlin bird may be a surprising sight, depending

on the time of year. We arrive at the marshland

where we will continue to observe the fauna in a

    new habitat.

This is the kingdom of aquatic life. Flamingos,

red-knobbed coots, the squacco heron, anatidae,

purple swamphens...it is an endless list of the

fantastic birdlife found in the marshes. Our

accompanying naturalist, as well as our local

guides, will at all times be explaining the

ecosystems we are visiting, and will help us to

identify the wildlife we are finding in Doana Natural Park.

We come back to Roco Village for lunch and rest. We depart in the evening, around sunset, to

resume our attempts at making a sighting of the Iberian lynx.

The hunters and naturalists, Chapman and

Buck, unveiled these wild solitudes in their

book WILD SPAIN, which inspired the famous

ornithological expeditions of the 1950s. Theywere privileged to exclusively enjoy these

Andalusia preserves having leased the rights to

that occupies the northern part of this area, el

Coto del Rey, Wildlife Spain offers travelers the

chance to access and enjoy restricted areas

outside the conventional tourist circuit. El Coto

del Rey has within its territory a historical pairing of the imperial eagle and some of the last Iberian

Day 6 DOANAN.P.ANDUJARNATURALPARKIn order to understand the environment of theIberian lynx is necessary to know the second stable

population, located in the Andjar Range Mountain,

where we can learn the differences of fur and lynx

    habitat in this territory.

Andjar Natural Park is in Jaen, one of the leastknown provinces of our country but one that has

more diversity of wildlife and some of the most

incredible landscapes and biotopes in Europe withmountain ranges, valleys and rivers that are home to

such iconic species such as the Iberian Lynx

Andjar is a typical hilly landscape of Morenas

Range Mountains (Sierra Morena). A large number of

emblematic species are threatened as a retreat,

between the Mediterranean maquis and the heart of

the Park meadows, rugged mountains in the north

and the dense pine forests of the south.

The mid-mountain landscape that makes up the space preserves natural vegetation patches larger

of Morena Ranger Mountain. Its most characteristic

species are holm oak and cork oak in the form open

stands, and in the higher altitudes, where the

humidity is higher-the gall. Among this vegetation

include granite curious rounded in the area known as

Andalusia has tripled its Iberian lynx population in

the last decade thanks to the recovery andconservation program Lynx Life, which currently

protects 309 cats in four areas of reintroduction

distributed between Doana National Park and

    Sierra Morena Natural Park.

According to the latest census conducted by the technicians of Life program, living in freedom, in an

area of 1,040 square kilometers, 309 copies (78 of them puppies), compared to the 94 that had in

    2002.

Besides the total, estimates for 2012 have seen an

increase in the number of territorial females, of

which rely heavily on the reproductive potential of

the wild species. Females settled in a territory and of

reproductive age have grown this year to the 85, 11

    more than the previous year.

Also during 2012 there were 21 deaths of Iberian

CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITYIn addition to the environmental benefits, these actions have created jobs and income in the

municipalities of lynx areas. In this sense, this initiative have generated about 30,000 wages in the

provinces of Huelva, Cordoba and Jaen, to which must be added the tender, for an amount of

6,816,063 euros, forestry work to improve habitats (clearing, pruning, etc..), of which 486 small

    companies have benefited Andalusia

The success of these programs has led to the approval by the European Commission of a Third Life

to continue the work done in recent years from Andalusia and thereby support the recovery of theIberian lynx. This project, called Iberlince, aims to increase the number of their populations by

reintroducing in Portugal, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia and Andalusia, thus reducing

the degree of threat to the species and proposed its reclassification to the International Union for

the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), to a lower category of threat by international standards. In this

LIFE PROJECT are involved a total 19 partners, including governments, corporations, associations

and non-governmental organizations, which will enable the successful reintroduction of the Iberianlynx.

A little less than a decade, this experience unique

moves and tourists from around the world was

almost unthinkable lynx simply because there was

to see. There were 94 in Andalusia, which is like

saying in the world. And only two stable

populations separated by hundreds of kilometers:

Doana and Andjar. The species, without humanintervention, was doomed to extinction. Today, the

number of copies released has increased by more

than three to reach 309 in the last official census

(2012) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and

Environment is actively engaged in two areas of reintroduction (Guarrizas in Jaen and

Guadalmellato in Cordoba) and the successful captive breeding program that every year allows

juveniles to release in the wild.

ECOWILDLIFE actively working with local authorities on developing sustainable tourism projectsand the entire management of their projects are carried out with local communities in order to

contribute to its development. All accommodations and services used are part of the Spanish

Network of Rural Tourism and the guides are eradicated in the territory where they operate these

services contribute to employment creation and maintenance of underdeveloped rural nuclei.
