Also known as Kodagu, Coorg is a beautiful town located in the southern part of India by the

Western Ghats. The area of the places is 4102 square kilometers. It is the least populous district

in Karnataka, which makes it more pleasant than many other cities of India. The place is very

well known for its good quality coffee. The coffee gardens can be seen all around this beautiful

hill resort. The native language spoken here is Kodava. Kodava has no texts, and the native

residing in this hill station make use of this language. One fifth of the total population comprises

of the Kodavas. With time the Kodavas migrated to more populous and advanced cities like

Mysore, Bangalore and even to abroad countries. There are a number of tourist places near

Coorg that can be explored. Therefore, the tourists can travel all to the neighboring places to

enjoy themselves.

Kodagu is situated on the Eastward slope of the Western Ghats. It is a hilly district with beautiful

locales, which attract tourists. The highest peak here is the Tadiandamol and Pushpagiri is the

second highest peak. The Cauvery River flows across Coorg, bringing in the much needed

supplies of water for agriculture. The summers are extremely pleasant, because of which families

travel to tourist places near Coorg, for a fun filed summer vacation. The place is dominantly

used for agriculture and hence the natives are mostly farmers. Because of the paddy field found

on the valley floors, coffee and pepper agro forestry is common in the places surrounding the

hills especially Madikeri. Coffee robusta and Coffee Arabica varieties of coffee are mainly

grown in this region. After the Baba budangiri Hills of Chikkamangaluri district, Kodagu is the

largest producer of coffee in India. It takes a lot of hard work to maintain coffee plantation, the

whole system is very sophisticated, and requires a lot of dedication. Coffee plantations need be

visited to understand the precision it requires. Vanilla, cardamom and black pepper are also

grown in this coffee agro-forestry.

Kodagu is also popular for its oranges; the oranges grown here are peculiar in flavor and have a

distinctive taste. Cocoa is also grown in this region. Apart from this forest honey is collected in

this place and the teakwood from here is excellent. The forest reserve found here are excellent

tourist places near Coorg. The flora and fauna is very famous, distinctive types of flowers can be

found here. The Brahmagiri, Pushpagiri and Talacauvery wildlife sanctuaries are found here.

They are home to thousands of birds which migrate from different parts of the world. The Rajiv

Gandhi National park also known as the Nagarhole National Park is situated here. Endangered

species such as different types of deer, boars, gaurs, elephants, leopards and tigers are found

here. These sanctuaries and parks must be visited when touring around this beautiful hill station.

The beauty of this place is exquisite and needs to be seen to be believed. Travelling to tourist
