A home is so much more than just a roof over our heads. We live increasingly busy and demanding lives and our homes
are the ultimate refuge after a long day.

Connected living and smart technologies are now highly customised to our needs – turning our living areas into multi-functional zones. This is particularly the case when setting the mood of a room where lighting, music and entertainment are the easiest and most immediate way to alter the atmosphere without having to rearrange the furniture.
Yamaha’s MusicCast technology is set to deliver multi-room entertainment with unparalleled ease. The award-winning technology bridges the gap between seamless connectivity and elegant product design. From your vinyl records to your new TV, MusicCast provides the most versatile whole-of-home audio system possible.

Why sound mattersWe may not fully recognise all the work that goes into the music we love or the intricacy of the sound design behind
the films we enjoy, but having great audio makes an immense difference in how we feel and connect to these
mediums in a way that visuals alone cannot achieve.

Living with music
Meet the faces of Yamaha Home Entertainment Australia and hear about what they have to say about their ‘sound’ choices

Dan Reilly and Dani Wales know a thing or two about creating stunning spaces. The power couple first
graced our TV screens in 2012 as contestants in back-to-back seasons of the hit reality show The Block – and they haven’t slowed down since.
Dan, a certified builder, is now a familiar face for Block fans as the show’s ‘Foreman Dan’ while Dani is a co-host on lifestyle series Healthy Homes Australia. Together they founded Red Door Project – a design and construction business that creates gorgeous, intensely liveable spaces for clients. To top things off, Dan and Dani also recently completed a full renovation and extension of a cottage in Melbourne’s inner west – phew!

How important is setting up a good home audio system when renovating a house?
Dan: So important! Unfortunately it’s something that can be overlooked, or left until the last minute. These days you can often retro-fit audio systems to your home which is a huge plus, but thinking about how you’re going to use a space in the planning stages of your renovation makes a world of difference.
Dani: When we’re planning a renovation, our first step is to assess how a room (such as a living room) will be lived in. This includes everything from the size and position of the sofa, additional seating, who is going to use the space, how we want the space to feel and also the mood we want to create through visual elements like texture, and experiential elements such as audio visual equipment.
You have our multi-room audio system, MusicCast, in your house – what’s your favourite feature?
Dan: Definitely the ability to listen to music, sport or anything else we want in any room of the house and have it all controlled by the MusicCast app on our iPhones and iPads.
Dani: I stream Spotify or Internet radio all day when working from home, and it’s so convenient that I don’t have to touch anything on any of the Speakers when I want to change a song or change the station. It’s all controlled conveniently from my iPhone.
What is one piece of advice you would give to budding home renovators?
Dani: Plan! Plan! Plan! You can never over-plan a renovation - or a new build for that matter. Consider your home audio and entertainment like you would your colour selections – carefully, and with consideration for how the space will be lived in. It’s something that should be thought about in the early planning stages to get the absolute best out of your chosen system.

Why is music such a big part of your life?I love everything about music. I particularly like the nostalgia aspect - how you can hear a certain song and be transported to the exact time and place you were at when you first heard it. Music evokes such emotion and has the ability to make any situation brighter. Not too many things can do that. I was brought up on music. My dad had a great record collection and taught me to appreciate all forms and genres - everything from rock and folk, to jazz and blues. Music was constantly playing when I was growing up and I guess things haven’t really changed that much.
Which albums do you have on high rotation at the moment?A bit of a mixed bag to be honest. I always try to keep my current playlists pretty eclectic. Childish Gambino ‘Because The Internet’, Prince ‘Purple Rain’ Remastered, Neil Young ‘Decade’, George Harrison ‘All Things Must Pass’, Jay Z ‘The
Black Album’, Ludovico Einaudi ‘In A Time Lapse’, and some David Bowie represses that have recently come out.
What do you look for when buying Hi-Fi equipment?Naturally, I want the music to sound as pure and as ‘real’ as possible. I find Yamaha Hi-Fi equipment, particularly the amps and pre-amps, really bring out the sound of vinyl beautifully. Secondly, and just as importantly, it needs to look good. I have a particular aesthetic that suits my home and personal taste. I want the equipment to seamlessly fit in with the rest of the house.
What’s your favourite record that you own?Tough question… To be honest, I don’t have a favourite. There are times when I’d tell you that Bob Dylan’s ‘Blood On The Tracks’ is my favourite, other times I’ll tell you that ‘Blood Sugar Sex Magik’ by the Chili Peppers is my favourite... Depends on my mood, my surrounds, etc.
The Yamaha MusicCast Stereo Amp has been featured on your feed quite a few times. What drew you to the R-N602 and what do you think of it so far?I love it and it’s always the first thing people comment on when they enter my listening space. I love the versatility of it - how one minute you can be spinning vinyl, and the next you can be streaming a playlist through Spotify. I also love the look of it - very vintage looking, but with a contemporary feel.
What are 3 main things you look for in Hi-Fi equipment?Quality, aesthetics and compatibility with my other pieces of Hi-Fi equipment.

Any stunt bike fan or motorcycle lover
should recognise the name ‘Dave McKenna’. Renowned as Australia’s top freestyle stunt rider, the 29-year-old is known for his highly skilled, gravity-defying stunt manoeuvres.
Years of dedication and training have resulted in Dave performing professionally both here and abroad, and in 2013 he became Australia’s first stunt performer signed by Yamaha Motor.
Dave is the natural embodiment of the passion shared by Yamaha Motor and Yamaha Music. He even plays the guitar in his spare time! We chatted to him about what it’s like to ride, play and listen to Yamaha.
How long have you been riding and performing stunts for?
I’ve been riding ever since I was a kid. I grew up on a farm near Ballarat, so I was fortunate to be able to hone my skills on dirt bikes – but I knew from about the age of 12 that I wanted to get into road bike stunt riding. I took a lot of inspiration from watching videos, reading forums, that sort of thing – and from there it’s just been a lot of trial, error and commitment… plus a whole bunch of broken bones!

Having a distinct bike sound is pretty important to some motorcyclists. Do you think that it plays a part when you choose your home entertainment gear?
For sure. Many riders are very particular with the exhaust system of their bike to make it sound and feel ‘just right’ and it’s the same for when you’re setting up your home entertainment system. There are so many things to consider when it comes to sound, whether it’s bikes or for the house, such as the size of your room and the type of sound you’re after – all these things play a huge role in how a system is going to sound.
As someone who represents Yamaha’s ‘Ride, Play, Listen’ philosophy, what are some key things that stand out to you when it comes to the Yamaha brand?
Whether we’re talking bikes, musical instruments or home audio, the first thing that really stands out to me is Yamaha’s heritage. It’s a brand that’s been around for a very long time, and with good reason – the products are top notch. Another thing I love about Yamaha is that it’s like a big family. Ever since I was signed to Yamaha Motor back in 2013, they’ve been incredibly supportive. Everyone at Yamaha truly cares about the products they create and the customers who purchase them.
When you’re not riding your bike, you’re quite into playing guitar as well! Do you think that this helps put you in a calmer headspace before you perform your stunts?
Yeah, I love to play a bit of guitar in my spare time, these days I’m really enjoying playing my own riffs and turning them into complete pieces. I find that it’s a great way to wind down and yeah, I’d have to say that music in general – whether playing or listening – is a great way to relax and clear the mind before getting on the bike.
