All about our place

Where is Listerlin. `Listerlin is situated in the Irish Republic. Lios thar Ghlionn is the Irish name for Listerlin. Irish is our other language in Ireland but somebody spelled it incorrectly on this road sign. Below are a few places nearby.

Mullally’s ShopThis is our local shop. You can get all the little things you need here. They have lots of nice sweets (ie.candy ). Its only down the road from our school. It’s small but there are bigger shops in towns nearby.

Old SurgeryThe house behind us is the old doctor’s surgery.It was also a pharmacy where people got medicine when they were ill .As people started to buy cars in the 1960’s and the 1970’s , they could travel to nearby towns to the doctor . The surgery was then turned into a house.

Old Police StationThe house behind us was once a police station. In recent years people can drive to police stations and police cars can come to them from the stations in New Ross and Thomastown.

Our Church.

Many Irish people are Roman Catholics. This is our church in Listerlin. People go to Mass (Religious service) every Sunday. We made our First Holy Communion in this church when we were seven or eight years old.

River ArrigleOur local river is called The Arrigle. It flows into the river Nore, the Nore then flows into the river Suir and then the Suir enters the sea in Waterford. The old name for Listerlin was Mullinarrigle. (in English the mill on the Arrigle) Below is a picture of where the mill once stood.

Windfarm

The Ballymartin Windfarm is about two kilometres from the school. The photo below is us going to the Windfarm last year.

Our School.Scoil Mhollainge (Saint Molan’’s School) Is our school. We have 107 pupils from, four years old to twelve years of age. We have an old building and a new building .We have many games marked out in the yard and we have a football pitch.
