for outdoor application. It integrates a number of patented technologies which are the result of Listone Giordano research and experience in the field of two-layer wood flooring with birch support. With Listone Giordano Marine you can install an outdoor hardwood floor having the same aesthetic features and underfoot feel as a Listone Giordano indoor floor. Listone Giordano Marine can be also installed indoors, thus allowing you to create seamless surfaces between the inside and outside of a house. As this solution, unlike raised decks, has no gap below the floor and no interspace between wood boards, cleaning and maintenance operations are extremely easy. It consists of a Teak top layer and a crossed-fibre birch multilayer support, with a total thickness of 12.5 mm. Wood layers are glued together using very high-performance adhesives exceeding JAS type II test requirements (immersion for 2 hours in water at 70° C and subsequent 3-hour exposure to forced ventilation at 60 C° in a lab oven). The board surface features longitudinal grooves that not only enhance the stability of the product, but also ensure excellent non-slip performance in case of wet flooring.

A high-resistance vegetable oil based finish for outdoors that nourishes the wood in-depth, creating a total protective barrier against ageing and cracking. OUTNATURE does not require sanding during maintenance. After finishing installation of Listone Giordano Marine, apply a final coat of non-slip oil for decking in order to further strengthen the surface protection of the floor, to make it even more slick and deliver it in excellent condition to the client.

UNFINISHED WOOD Decking boards are supplied in unfinished wood with pre-planed surface designed to be finished after installation on-site. The finishing treatment, to be carried out on-site, protects wood from oxidation generated by UV rays, as well as contributes to the containment of crevices and cracks generated by climatic conditions outdoors. It is advisable to finish the surface immediately after completing floor installation.

The actual durability of a manufactured product on the outside, however, also depends on the constructive features and the conditions in which it is placed in operation. Listone Giordano Marine draws its high durability both from the natural ability of the wood (in the case of Teak class I durability) and from the special installation that also helps preserve the support wood (which does not have the same durability qualities as that of Teak). For this new and revolutionary use of Listone Giordano Marine, parquet which has up to now been considered exclusively for indoor use, durability cannot be sought in the technical standards (which do not consider this innovative system for the construction of an exterior wooden floor). It has however been verified by the long-term experimentation carried out by Listone Giordano on this product, also used under more heavy duty conditions than those currently permitted.

DIMENSIONAL STABILITY Wood placed outdoors is stressed from the work of performing frequent, sudden and substantial changes in its moisture content due to direct sunlight, which leads to a low moisture level (even as low as 4%) and, by contrast to the previous, due to the effect of meteoric precipitation that makes the wood moisture rise enormously (even over 27%). Instead Listone Giordano Marine, due to the proverbial dimensional stability of this product even in the presence of adverse conditions and due to its special installation technique, can offer excellent dimensional stability, which will always exhibit a substantially planar surface and not show the typical, massive dimensional variations of traditional decking. Despite these excellent properties, wood fractures, small deformations of the longitudinal and/or transverse boards, etc. can naturally form on decking subjected to this remarkable variation of moisture.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHOOSING THE INSTALLATION SITE

Listone Giordano Marine is designed for installation on concrete subfloor (screeds) detached from the ground

(installation on concrete subfloor is not allowed). It has also been conceived for laying on substrates detached from the

ground and covered with old hard floors, firmly attached to their installation bed.

Those subfloors separated by the ground by an effective barrier system against the rising of moisture are assimilated to

the subfloors detached from the ground.

SUBFLOOR VERIFICATION The subfloor on which the parquet is to be laid must have a smooth, planar and compact surface to ensure the best bonding seal and the best contact between the decking and the subfloor itself. This subfloor must also have a sufficient slope to ensure the natural outflow of rainwater on the floor. The following checks must be made before laying.

• Surface planarity check: Place a 2 m long straight-edge on the subfloor and make sure that there are no more than 2-3 mm slopes. This verification must also be made in case of pre-existing hard flooring. The slope of the subfloor, which must be present for required rainfall drainage, should not be considered in this check.

• Structural solidity check: No cracks or in-depth dents should be created when you hit the surface of the screed with a hammer.

• Surface compactness check: No deep grooves should be created and no dust created when you scrape the tip of a nail on the surface.

• Crack check: Crevices resulting from natural shrinkage of the concrete are permitted. All visible crevices, particularly those affecting the entire thickness of the subfloor and evolving cracks, must be consolidated using appropriate products.

• Surface cleanliness check: Subfloor surfaces must be cleaned thoroughly. This verification must also be made in case of pre-existing hard flooring.

• Moisture content check: Simply check that, at the start of Listone Giordano Marine installation work, the surface has a completely dry appearance (starting operations with a wet looking screed or wet old flooring is not permitted).

Before installing on hard pre-existing flooring (ceramic, stone, etc.), especially check that the surface is suitable for correct bonding and that the elements that it is composed of are firmly attached to their subfloor. Always intervene preliminarily with treatments against abrasion, surface scratching using mechanical means (for example, specially designed single-disc machines suitable for this purpose) and with a subsequent deep cleaning (cleaning with a vacuum cleaner and subsequent washing). If there are elements that are not firmly attached to the subfloor, consolidate before the laying the Listone Giordano Marine floor.

STORING MATERIAL Listone Giordano Marine must be stored in premises that are:

- Safe, where there is no danger of damage due to the presence of other materials or due to possible handling by unauthorised persons

- Closed and dry, so that they cannot be affected by rain or snow and must not have water stagnation

- With temperatures always between +15°C and +30°C In any case, Listone Giordano Marine boxes must never lie on the ground but should always be set on pallets (if possible, keep the original packaging of the pallet itself). In countries with cold climates (for example the extreme north or extreme south of the world), preserve Listone Giordano Marine in heated rooms with a temperature of at least 15°C (59°F). In countries with hot climates (for example countries on the equator or adjacent to it), preserve Listone Giordano Marine in refrigerated rooms with temperatures not exceeding 30°C (86°F). These indications are also valid for transport. Boxes should never be stored in places that are affected by direct sunlight (such as, for example, containers left outdoors or warehouses with metal roofs). Only open packaging at the time of installation, as the material is used and in quantities not exceeding those required. Compliance with the above is only necessary to keep Listone Giordano Marine decking's original conditions until they are installed, otherwise it would be difficult to install if material has not been stored properly or if its boxes have been left open, due to modification of the micrometric tapping of the product.

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Listone Giordano Marine decking must always be glued to its subfloor, which must ensure the presence of a slope so as to favour the outflow of rainfall and must also provide sufficient points for collecting and disposing of such precipitation. Water which is forced to drain over the wood by means of evaporation must never stagnate on top of Listone Giordano Marine decking.

On the large terraces or other surfaces, you can find a subdivision of the area in various sectors with different slopes. These may have conditions similar to those of the graphs that follow, which only represent an example from which to draw appropriate assessments for any other construction situation that may arise.

The best collection of rainfall precipitations can be achieved through continuous grilles, able to collect and dispose at any point on the flooring. Proper installation is expressed by the image here to the side. It is however also possible to provide individual grilles on catch basins positioned at points where the installation bed slopes are conveyed. Never set flooring on changes of subfloor slopes without setting an expansion joint (to then be sealed) in perfect projection of the change of slope itself. In the absence of this break with the expansion joint, the boards would be forced to bend along their direction (especially if they are overhanging the top in the longitudinal direction), thus taking on an internal position of tension that does not suit the wood placed outside.

PREPARATION OF CONCRETE SUBFLOORS (SCREEDS) 1ST STEP Application of a first coat of primer for subfloor waterproofing. Shake product packs well before opening them. Mix 1 pack of Primer MF (part A + part B) and 1 bottle of Primer KL (1 litre) in a container. Then shake the liquid well for thorough mixing of the various products.

Apply the primer mixture created with a roller, taking care to cover the entire surface. Wait for product to dry. 2ND STEP Application of a second and last coat of primer for subfloor waterproofing. Wait 2 hours if the location is exposed to the sun. Shake product pack well before opening it. Mix Primer MF only (part A + part B) in a container. Shake the liquid well for thorough mixing of the various products. Apply a pure primer with a roller for enamel and resin applications (not a simple water-based paint roller), taking care to cover the entire surface (take special care in this as it is more difficult to monitor perfect evenness on the second coat).

Apply the quartz powder over the entire surface where the primer was applied and before it starts to dry. For large size surfaces and/or high temperatures, apply quartz to surface portions as they are coated with the second primer coat.

The above mentioned operations for the preparation of concrete subfloors can only be carried out in the presence of temperatures between + 10°C and + 30°C. In the summer, it is advisable to perform operations early in the morning.

When the second primer coat has also dried, remove all the quartz that has not been able to bind with the primer itself (sweeping it off with a broom for example). PREPARING PRE-EXISTING HARD FLOORING SUBFLOORS

First check that all the elements that form the hard flooring are firmly attached to their subfloor. If not, re-establish proper adhesion where possible. 1ST STEP Vacuum the entire surface with a powerful and efficient vacuum cleaner. Wash all the treated surface with detergent and water to ensure that all the dust generated by surface sanding has been removed and that any traces of any pre-existing dirt have been cleaned. Wait for the surface to dry thoroughly before proceeding to the next steps. There are no temperature constraints related to this preparation. 2ND STEP Apply 1 abundant coat of Primer MF on all tile grout, using a small brush (enough to cover the width of the grout).

LISTONE GIORDANO MARINE GLUED-DOWN INSTALLATION

Begin glued-down installation only in the presence of a perfectly dry concrete with primer or prepared hard flooring subfloor. There must therefore be no traces of moisture on surfaces, including dew. Spread the adhesive on the surface in areas that can be covered within 10-15 minutes with the Listone Giordano Marine decking to be installed. Spread the adhesive on the substrate using a toothed spatula like the one used on indoor parquet flooring, with dimensional characteristics as the image below. Apply the adhesive evenly across the entire surface of the subfloor, taking care to leave a layer of adhesive that is of consistent thickness even at the bottom of toothing.

To better understand this concept, please see the following 2 images: on the left side, the layer was obtained by heavily dragging the spatula on the subfloor (as with indoor parquet), while the layer on the right was obtained by holding the spatula slightly more raised. In the right image, the adhesive yield is 1.5-1.8 Kg/m2.

Adhesive preparation should only be carried out in the manner indicated above, as the adhesive layer should be completely continuous. The use of different adhesive techniques is strictly prohibited. The boards should be interposed with each other preferably solely by hand as the use of supporting tools (i.e. mallets) can damage the surfaces and edges. During this operation, be careful that the adhesive does not come up from inside the joints to avoid dirtying the surface.

Using suitably sized wedges, to be positioned on the boards installed along the perimeter of the area where flooring is set, create a 10 mm-wide expansion joint.

PERIMETER SEALING

Seal the perimeter joints after at least 10 – 12 hours after installation of the last parts of Listone Giordano Marine, thoroughly and securely closing all joint spaces.

Apply mashing tape that is at least 30 mm wide in perfect adherence to the joint to prevent the sealant from dirtying the surface of Listone Giordano Marine (to be removed immediately after application of the sealant). On the bottom of the joint, spread closed-cell polyurethane foam cord (Mapei Mapefoam type) with diameter Ø 10 mm. Insert the draught excluder inside the corresponding extrusion gun. Continuously extrude the product inside joints, taking the utmost care not to embed air. After approximately 12-24 hours, cut excess product with a cutter.

SURFACE FINISH

After cutting the sealant, finishing can be completed. Each finishing treatment must be carried out on perfectly dry wood and foreseeing that the oil will not be able to come into contact with any liquid, including water, over the next 48-72 hours after application. Otherwise, the oil itself could have a whitish appearance instead of a transparent natural colour. Once the Listone Giordano Marine finish has been completed, do not wash and/or wet the surface for at least 7 days.

Listone Giordano Marine Outnature Apply a single coat of Special Non-slip Oil for Decking with a brush, taking care to thoroughly spread it out and always brush parallel to the longitudinal grooving of the boards. Approximately 22-24 m2 is covered with 1 L of Special Non-slip Oil for Decking. Flooring can be walked on after at least 12 hours have elapsed (wait at least 24 hours in the case of lower temperatures and/or higher moisture in the air).

Apply a single coat of Special Decking Oil for Teak with a brush, taking care to thoroughly spread it out and always brush parallel to the longitudinal grooving of the boards. Approximately 22-24 m2 is covered with 1 L of Special Decking Oil for Teak. Flooring can take the second coat of oil after at least 12 hours have elapsed (wait at least 24 hours in the case of lower temperatures and/or higher moisture in the air).

Apply a second coat of Special Non-slip Oil for Decking with a brush, taking care to thoroughly spread it out and always brush parallel to the longitudinal grooving of the boards. Approximately 22-24 m2 is covered with 1 L of Special Non-slip Oil for Decking. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Proper cleaning and maintenance of Listone Giordano Marine ensures better surface finish performance and durability. Use only the products listed in the following table for these operations, whether Listone Giordano Marine or Outnature finish or if finished on-site because it is unfinished wood.

APPLICATION Sweep or, better, vacuum all the dust, residue and dirt that are usually deposited on the flooring surface. Shake the Decking Cleaner pack and then in a bucket with water, pour a quantity that may vary in ratio from 1 part Decking Cleaner to 25 parts water for moderately dirty flooring to a ratio of 1 part Decking Cleaner and 1 part water for very dirty flooring. Spread the product out with a cloth (pulled by a brush) over the entire surface. As soon as this is finished, always rinse flooring off with a cloth rinsed in clean water or with a sponge. Lastly, it is advisable to rinse with running water. To remove in-depth dirt, use a brush with soft plastic bristles. When using Decking Cleaner, protect your hands with suitable gloves. Special satin finish, microporous, water-repellent and dirt-resistant oil for Listone Giordano Marine. Special Non-slip Oil for Decking can be applied by means of a roller capable of depositing oil even inside the grooves (in the case of large surfaces) and/or by means of a brush (in the case of small surfaces). Special Non-slip Oil for Decking is a high yield product applied by spreading a uniform film, following the grain of the wood. Any excess product can be removed by means of a rag or cloth. Oil drying requires 12 hours in normal climatic conditions (23°C/50% moisture). Low temperatures and periods of high humidity increase the oil drying time while, conversely, high temperatures greatly accelerate drying. It is advisable to apply Special Non-slip Oil for Decking when flooring has not been under direct sunlight in the last hours. Clean all equipment with a benzene-free detergent. The product must be kept out of the reach of children. Wear suitable protective gloves during application.

Special Decking Oil for Teak Special oil necessary for first-coat impregnation of Listone Giordano Marine in unfinished wood, microporous and water-repellent wood finish version. Characterised by a very high yield and easy to apply. Special Decking Oil for Teak penetrates deeply, thus reducing the dimensional deformation problems of the board surface (fractures for example). Also necessary for reconstructing the entire finish in case of special maintenance, also in this case as a first-coat impregnating agent after having cleaned the wood with Power-Gel anti-greying for wood. Power-Gel anti-greying for wood Removes grey from the Listone Giordano Marine surface in the event that it should take on an aged appearance due to failure to perform periodic maintenance. Restores the original appearance of wood, making the surface suitable for application of a new finishing treatment by applying a first coat of Special Decking Oil for Teak and a second coat of Special Non-slip Oil for Decking. The product only acts on greying wood, or rather the laminar surface layer a few millimetre microns thick.

with a simple large (in the case of small surfaces) or with a floor washing machine but always on perfectly wet surfaces (never with dried product). If the product tends to dry too quickly, wet the surface before brushing.

3) Rinse with water. This serves to eliminate the wooden clumps formed after brushing. Use a floor washing machine

with suction or a high pressure pump (max pressure 60 bar). The amplitude of the water jet and its proximity to the surface of the wood are very important. The water jet should be widespread and distant from the surface so that it does not nick/hollow the wood. Some traces of grey may still be visible after treatment. This is due to uneven application of the product on some areas of the flooring. Repeat operations if necessary. Wood is dry and suitable for finishing after 2-3 days after cleaning.

CLIMATE CONDITIONS The living nature of wood and its natural reactions to changes depending upon the humidity and temperature may eventually over time cause the appearance of small cracks. This phenomenon can be more significant when the floor is exposed to violent and sudden climate changes such as drought or high humidity. SAMPLES Wood is a material that is not naturally uniform or homogeneous, in which each element is unique and unrepeatable. Therefore, a sample made up of a few boards can only give an idea of the appearance of the entire floor but can never demonstrate the final result in all tones, trains and singularity.The phenomenon described above wood is prone to alter its colour overtime, due to the exposure to air and UV rays, therefore a wood floor that has just been installed features a different color tone and appearance of the surface compared to a sample panel of the same product which has been displayed and exposed to the ir for some time.
