Look at this map of Peebles High Street.

Task 1Can you write clear, detailed instructions to help a visitor to the town get from the Post office to Cocoa Black? Remember to use the 4 headings to organise your writing:

Page 2: Literacy - blogs.glowscotland.org.uk€¦  · Web viewTask One- Egg-citing breakfast recipes The lovely Campbell family at Glenrath farm have very kindly donated some eggs to primary

Task 2Choose 2 other locations on the map and write instructions about how to get from one to the other. Eg from Scott brothers to Jim Jacks.

Task 3Have a look at Google maps and see if you can find directions from your house to Kingsland.. Write directions to get from your house to Kingsland.

Task 4Choose two other locations in Peebles and write directions to get from one to the other. Your directions will be quite different depending on whether you are walking or in the car.Once you have written them try them out. Did you miss any steps or was it easy to follow your directions without getting lost?

Task Two- Spelling The spelling words are:

wish shout shower crash fashion ship

Task 1Say it. Stretch it out and count the number of sounds. Think about what letters make each sound. Clap it - clap the syllables of the word. Spell it.

Task 2Find and write down some rhyming words for each spelling word.

Task 3Grow it. What words can you make from it? Try plurals, prefixes and suffixes. This set of words are quite short so try to challenge yourself here!

Task 4Use it in a sentence - grow your sentence (add a conjunction - and, but, so, because)

Please write down the words you create throughout these steps and send a picture to your teacher to be marked.

Task three - conjunctionsConjunctions are used to add information or join two sentences. On the sheet below, identify the conjunction in the first 6 sentences. On the second 6, copy out the sentences and add the correct conjunction so the sentence makes sense.

Coordinating conjunctionsConjunctions are joining words that link together parts of a sentence. The three main coordinating conjunctions are ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘or’.They can be used to join together two clauses in a sentence. However, the clauses need to make sense on their own. For example:I had a terrible cold. I still went to work. You can add the coordinating conjunction ‘but’ in between these causes so the sentence reads:I had a terrible cold but I still went to school.

NumeracyTask One- DivisionDivision is where we share something equally between a given number. For example if you share 12 pens between 4 children they will get 3 each

We can use our times tables to work out division sums. To work out 20 divided by 4, we can count up in 4’s until we reach 20 - 4,8,12,16,20 so there are 5 lots of 4 in 20. Complete these revision pages which are dividing by 2,3,4,5 and 10. Look at the timetable to see which pages to do each day. Photograph your work and send it your teacher.

You need to use your knowledge of the 6 times table to help you complete these pages.

Task Two- grid referencesGrid references are used to help us mark or locate specific points on a map or grid. To identify and record a grid reference we need to look at how the axis of the grid are labelled. On these sheets you will see that both the across (horizontal) and up (vertical) axis are labelled with numbers. To find or mark a grid reference we first look at the across (horizontal) axis, so in the example below the blue semi circle is at square 3 on the across axis. We then look at the up (vertical) axis and the blue semi circle is at square 2 on the up axis. I would write this grid reference as (3,2) always writing the across position, a comma then the up position.Have a go with these sheets and see how you get on.

Make your own treasure map grid and email it to a friend with some challenge questions eg on which square would you find the giant ruby.

Task Three- number stories (link between multiplication and division)We should know that 3x4 is the same as 4x3. We can also use this knowledge to help with division:

3x4=12 4x3=12 12÷3=4 12÷4=3

Task One- Egg-citing breakfast recipes

The lovely Campbell family at Glenrath farm have very kindly donated some eggs to primary 4 to help us in our quest to do more cooking at home. Each child will get 2 free eggs to use in one of the recipes below. You need to bring a container and come to the front of the school on Monday or Tuesday to collect your 2 eggs. Please tick your name off the list once you have your eggs.If you would rather try making something different, share your recipe with us so we can all have a go. The eggs are free range (if you don’t know what this means do a bit of research and see if you can find out) and have come from local farms.Send your teacher a picture of your tasty meal so we can see how you get on.

Task Two - Setting a goal

Setting a goal can be hugely motivating, it can help us think more positively and it can make us focus a bit more on the future. Goals can motivate us to achieve something new no matter how big or small.

We would like you to choose a goal that you would like to achieve during lockdown. e.g. be kind to my brothers/ sisters, be more helpful in the house, keep my room tidy, run round the park without stopping etc.

Page 17: Literacy - blogs.glowscotland.org.uk€¦  · Web viewTask One- Egg-citing breakfast recipes The lovely Campbell family at Glenrath farm have very kindly donated some eggs to primary

Send us your goal using the 5 step plan to outline how you are going to achieve this.Step-by-step guide to setting goals. 1. Write it down, e.g. become a better golfer 2. Make it specific: "I want to be able to hit the ball onto the green, once each game." 3. Consider Pros and Cons: Pros - It will be much more fun and much less embarrassing when I play. Cons - I already have practice twice a week. Extra practice will cut into my free time. 4. Define small steps by asking the Three W's: "Who can help?" (A coach, parent, or friend etc.) "What do I need to do?" (Practice more, go to the driving range). "When?" (30 minutes twice a week) 5. Monitor Progress: Have my parents video my swing. Get feedback from my coach
