Literacy Narrative - Reflective Essay

TRANSCRIPT

Christian BestRobert ArnoldUWRT 110117 September 2015Reflective EssayDear Robert,Choosing to write a literacy narrative about myself was very easy but also one of the most difficult things Ive ever had to do in my life. Because I usually write journal entries in my phone it was easy for me to get in touch with my inner feelings and write those thoughts down. But this time I had to remember that this wasnt another journal entry and it had to become a story or timeline of how I became who I was. My writing process wasnt the easiest thing in the world. When I first received the assignment my thoughts immediately started generating. But while writing this paper I realized that freewriting and looping helps a lot. I think these two techniques helped me more because it was slightly similar to the journal entries that I do on occasions. Periodically throughout my paper I would completely stop, return to the very beginning of my paper, and reread and revise every sentence. I guess you can say that I originally gave myself a peer review. But peer reviewing did help me improve my paper. My paper included a paragraph that described the emotions I felt after my grandfathers death. During peer review Romelo thought it would be a good idea to explain how my grandfather impacted my life, and I listened to him. I went back and included a paragraph about the impact my grandfather had on my life and I believe that it well help my reader understand why his death caused such a change in my life. The most difficult part about writing this literacy narrative was getting my thoughts on paper. For some odd reason I have random bursts of creative thoughts. But those thoughts would occur at the strangest times and I would be forced to write them down in my cellphone until I could actually type them up in my paper. Although writing this narrative caused a ton of frustration because I have issues articulating my thoughts, it was also interesting because it was a chance for others to take a look into a side of me that no one really takes the time to look at. I looked at this paper as another way to express myself. I particularly liked this literacy narrative because it just reminded me of a very formal version of my cellphone journal entries. Sincerely,Christian Best
