Early Life

October 22,1811 Franz Litsz born in Raiding, Hungary

1818- started playing piano

1819- started composing music

October 1820- appeared in his first concert at Bratislava, Slovakia

1822- went to Vienna to study

Dec 22, 1822- first performance in Vienna

April 13 ,1823-second concert in Vienna. Here he was kissed by

Beethoven which

he called it an artistic christening from

Beethoven

April 1823-Litszs family visited Hungary

May 1823- family returned to Vienna

1823-moved to Paris

1827 his father died

1830- composed Symphonie Fantastique

1835-1840- started writing the twelve Grandes Etudes (12 poems)

1839-1847-toured Europe. These years were his peak years

1844- Maria left him

Feb 1847 played in Kiev, Ukraine. Met Princess Carolynzu Sayn-

Witgenstein who persuaded him to stop performing and start

composing. So at age 35 he retired from performing.

1842-1861- he stayed in Wier, Germany. He acted as conductor

at court concerts and special occasions at the theatre, and taught

piano and composed, and wrote articles.

1847-composed Hungarian Rhapsodies

1851- published Hungarian Rhapsodies

after that he was very depressed.

-His friend and composer Camille Saint-Seans

dedicated his

Symphony #3 when he premiered in Londoan

weeks before Litszsdeath.

July 3, 1886- died of pneumonia.
