little:. embracing the small for greatness

part two: a road less traveled

matthew 7:13-14

Enter  through  the  narrow  gate.  For  wide  is  the  gate  and  broad  is  the  road  that  leads  to  destruction,  and  many  enter  through  it.

But  small  is  the  gate  and  narrow  the  road  that  leads  to  life,  and  only  a  few  :ind  it.

luke 13:22-25

Then  Jesus  went  through  the  towns  and  villages,  teaching  as  he  made  his  way  to  Jerusalem.  Someone  asked  him,  "Lord,  are  only  a  few  people  going  to  be  saved?"

He  said  to  them,  “Make  every  effort  to  enter  through  the  narrow  door,  because  many,  I  tell  you,  will  try  to  enter  and  will  not  be  able  to.  Once  the  owner  of  the  house  gets  up  and  closes  the  door,  you  will  stand  outside  knocking  and  pleading,  'Sir,  open  the  door  for  us.'  But  he  will  answer,  'I  don't  know  you  or  where  you  come  from.'”

matthew 16:24-27Then  Jesus  said  to  his  disciples,  "If  anyone  would  come  after  me,  he  must  deny  himself  and  take  up  his  cross  and  follow  me.  For  whoever  wants  to  save  his  life  will  lose  it,  but  whoever  loses  his  life  for  me  will  :ind  it.  What  good  will  it  be  for  a  man  if  he  gains  the  whole  world,  yet  forfeits  his  soul?  Or  what  can  a  man  give  in  exchange  for  his  soul?  For  the  Son  of  Man  is  going  to  come  in  his  Father's  glory  with  his  angels,  and  then  he  will  reward  each  person  according  to  what  he  has  done.

A  sacri:ice  to  be  real  must  cost,  must  hurt,  must  empty  ourselves.  The  fruit  of  silence  is  prayer,  the  fruit  of  prayer  is  faith,  the  fruit  of  faith  is  love,  the  fruit  of  love  is  service,  the  fruit  of  service  is  peace.

Like  Jesus  we  belong  to  the  world  living  not  for  ourselves

but  for  others.  The  joy  of  the  Lord  is  our  strength.

1timothy 3:1-5; 4:3But  mark  this:  There  will  be  terrible  times  in  the  last  days.  People  will  be  lovers  of  themselves,  lovers  of  money,  boastful,  proud,  abusive,  disobedient  to  their  parents,  ungrateful,  unholy,  without  love,  unforgiving,  slanderous,  without  self-‐control,  brutal,  not  lovers  of  the  good,  treacherous,  rash,  conceited,  lovers  of  pleasure  rather  than  lovers  of  God—having  a  form  of  godliness  but  denying  its  power.  Have  nothing  to  do  with  them...For  the  time  will  come  when  men  will  not  put  up  with  sound  doctrine.  Instead,  to  suit  their  own  desires,  they  will  gather  around  them  a  great  number  of  teachers  to  say  what  their  itching  ears  want  to  hear.

mother teresaGive  yourself  fully  to  God.  He  will  use  you  to  accomplish

great  things  on  the  condition  that  you  believe  much  more  in  His  love  than  in  your  own  weakness.

The  more  you  have,  the  more  you  are  occupied,  the  less  you  give.  But  the  less  you  have  the  more  free  you  are.  Poverty  for  us  is  a  freedom.  It  is  not  morti:ication,  a  penance.

It  is  joyful  freedom.  There  is  no  television  here,  no  this,  no  that.  But  we  are  perfectly  happy.
