Term 1, Week 2
We’ve had another wonderful week! It is always so much fun to see
our students proud of their achievements and reflecting on their
learning.
They have all settled into the specialist timetable extremely well and
participated in lots of fun and very valuable learning activities.
This is thanks to our wonderful teachers:- Mrs Attard - Music,
Mrs Tuaine - Chinese, Mr Smith - Phys. Ed., Miss Ellie - Art and
Mr Brown - Environmental education.
Please check the calendar for important dates, especially the
information sessions for parents on the 15th, 16th and 17th Feb.
If possible also keep the 29th March free to come into school for
Learning Journey day. This day is run by the students, it is a time we
have for your child to share their learning with you. It is usually just
a visit for half an hour or so, but we leave the whole day open so you
can come up when it suits you best.
PARENT HELPERS
There are always lots of odd jobs to do around the place. If you
would like to help out and have some time then that would be great.
Some of these jobs include, cleaning the chairs, dusting, sorting li-
brary books and wiping windows and/or skirting boards.
BOOK CLUB
Book Club orders have been sent home today.
Orders are due back to classroom teachers by February 16th.
Cash or credit card orders accepted. Please ensure all money is place
in a clearly named envelop.

FUTSAL UPDATE
I have been able to arrange the formation of a new futsal team, this
team will be known as Stingers D. These students will start off in the
lowest division competing against children aged between 4-7 years of
age that are also just starting out.
This will allow the students to be comfortable in their environment as they learn the game of
Futsal and the rules. Major League run training sessions each Saturday morning at 9am.
They strongly encourage children who are just starting out to attend these sessions starting this
Saturday 11th February.
Stingers D will compete in their first game on Saturday 18th February.
It is vitally important that your child can commit to playing regularly as there are only 6
players in each team.
Game times are available from the counter of Major League or through the Major League website.
The first 2 weeks are free for new players and then an $8 charge per week after that. Shin guards
are available from Major League or you can purchase your own. The school does have some extra
playing tops, but we can also arrange the purchase of new tops. Students will just need to wear
their playing top, shorts and runners or futsal boots if preferred.
Please find the Stingers D team listed below with the other teams. If you have any questions
please see Mr Smith or Paul McDonald. Alternatively you can speak to your team’s coach who
can liaise with either of us.

Well done Blue Gums on an awesome first week.
Student have commenced action plans and al-
ready we have some great goals happening in the
studio. We have students working on holiday
budgets, some making toys cars with wind power
and many students completing research projects
to present to the studio in order to develop their
presentation skills.
Information regarding homework is attached.
I encourage all parents to read. I will be holding a Blue Gums Studio parent information
sessions on Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th February (for those who are unable to make
Wednesday) at 3.30 in the Blue Gum studio.
These sessions will include discussions about the studio’s independent learning program and
other programs such as spelling, math and writing programs.
We have students in the studio who require milk carton lids, if you are able collect we
require about 12 please.
What a great week the students in the Lemon Scented
Studio have had. Well done to the following students for
receiving academic excellence awards.
Ethan – Accepting challenges
Levi – Great recount (journal) writing
Abe – Active listening
Mackenna – Great use of resources
Ryan – Taking pride
Students will begin homework next week. It is asked that students read a minimum of 4 nights per
week and reading must be recorded in their reader log. Reader logs will be checked every
Monday. There will be other homework given to students that will focus on their individual needs
but at the moment this is not compulsory, but highly recommended for students to complete.

Week 1 went faster than Mr. Brown over 100m .
In week 2 the students have continued to finalise
testing as well as get into the routines of their reading
and spelling activities. The students have also been
completing their classroom goals posters.
Thanks to all the children who read last week for their
homework. Students will receive their spelling words
for homework next Monday with instructions of how I
would like it completed. Please do not hesitate to come
and see me if you have any questions.

Welcome to the
Stringybark Gums Studio!
Wow, what a wonderful and busy start we have had to the year. I would like to take this oppor-
tunity to warmly welcome the children, families, Anne and Pam to our learning community!
The children have settled into routine well and continue to treat each other with respect and
kindness.
Students will officially begin taking readers home as of next week.
It is important that supervised reading is completed 3-5 nights a week.
Students will also have the opportunity to borrow books during library sessions on
Monday afternoons.
If you wish to read with the children on a Monday or Friday throughout the morning session
please see me.
If you have any additional queries please don’t hesitate to discuss these with me. I hope to see
you at the Parent Information Night next Thursday, February 16th .

BULLDOGS PLAYERS VISITS
We will be lucky enough to have 3 Western Bulldogs players coming to
school on Monday 13th February. These players will be taking the grade 3-6
students through some skills and games from 1:30pm-2:30pm.
Parents & friends are welcome to come up during this time, students are
welcome to wear their Western Bulldogs colours.
TENNIS TIMETABLE TERM 1
Thanks to all the children/families who are supporting the tennis lessons. Due to the increase in
numbers I have tried my best to accommodate the timeslots requested but obviously this is not possi-
ble for all families. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come in and see
Mr. Smith.
Thanks to the families who have already paid for their child’s tennis lessons, if payment has not been
made can you please ensure you organise your payment as promptly as possible to Mr. Smith. As this
program is run by an external business it is important that parents are on hand to supervise their child
or have made appropriate arrangements. If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate
to come in and see me.
Thanks Mr. Smith.
