Students in Miss Elyshird grade class needed

some help choosinggood books to read. We

found that we keptreading the same genre

of books. To helpexpose students to

different types of books, students played Musical

Books! Its the sameidea of the traditional

game Musical Chairs butwith a twist.

Chairs were placed in a circle. On each chair was a different bookfrom various genres and of various reading levels. Students danced

their ways around the chairs when the music started. When themusic stopped, they found the closest chair to them, picked up the

book, sat and read for four minutes. This was just enough time forstudents to preview the

book to see if they mightwant to read the book laterduring independent

    reading time.

Students were excited andmotivated to try different

books. Many of thestudents found books they

want to addto their reading list!

Third grade is enjoying the approaching

    winter season withfun-filled mathactivities. The

students practicedtheir estimation skills by using buttons tocover an evergreen tree, cotton balls to covera snowflake, and marshmallows to cover acup of hot chocolate. Initially, the studentsmade predictions and then counted the actualnumber of buttons, cotton balls, ormarshmallows needed to cover each shape. The students did a museum walk toestimate items used by the other groups ofstudents. Then, the projects were displayed in the hallway showcaseso other students could gain a better perspective of estimation.

The fourth grade students at F.A. March ElementarySchool learned that a geode is a hollow rock that isfilled with sparkling crystals. The geodes start off as ahollow bubble inside a layer of rock. The bubble couldbe from air inside explosive volcanic rock or it couldcome from the hollow remains of animal burrows or treeroots. The crystals are formed when mineral-rich watermoves on through the bubble, leaving tiny crystalsbehind, which cling to the sides of the bubble. Millionsof years pass while this in and out flow of watergradually builds crystals inside the empty space. Canyou spot the real geode that is mixed-in with the student-made geodes?

    Alumni Welcomed!

Students from F.A.March School have tremendous memories builtduring their education here. This is heard repeatedly from the alumnigroups which come through these doors throughout a year. So farthis year, our school has welcomed two classes of alumni, a total ofabout forty people, who excitedly entered the front doors. Theinterested alumni remarked favorably about the renovations, then

jumped into the personal stories reminiscing about their wonderful andmischievous grade school years. The last group broke into song whenI shared how we resurrected and continually sing the Alma Mater withtodays students! The rich history, of this beautiful edifice, and thestories held deep in the walls are obviously valued by manythroughout the Easton area and around the world, as witnessed whenany of these groups enter this building. We enjoy the opportunity to

open our doors to alumni groups who have passed through F. A.March on their educational journey!
