Little Red Riding

HoodOutsider Variation

There may be something mentally wrong with the

little girl as she willingly has a casual conversation with a scary wolf in the middle of the woods and also tells him where her grandma lives. This could also mean that the little girl is deliberately telling the wolf where her grandma lives so that the wolf can go eat her. This could highlight some sort of mental health problems with the little girl.

Because the wolf is confronting the little girl in the woods, the wolf can be seen as a sexual threat towards the little girl.

Psychoanalyst

As the little girl is strolling through the woods on her own, the wolf

encounters her and starts to ask her what she’s doing and where she’s going. This act could represent some sort of paedophilic character or a rapist trying to get information out of the girl so he can take advantage of her.

Also, the wolf goes to the cottage and eats little red riding hoods grandma. This could represent that the old woman was weak because of her age, and because of this she deserved to be eaten. Also, the wolf then pretends to be red riding hoods grandma, again to encounter her and talk to her, as though he is taking the identity of someone close to her so she would interact with him, to the wolf can again take advantage of the little girl.

The fact that the woodchopper has had to save the girl from the wolf shows the authority between the two genders. It shows that men are stronger and more powerful and that women can’t do anything to save themselves.

Feminist

The wolf could be represented as a capitalist as

he is greedy and he wants to profit in any way he can, whether it be the sexual threat towards the little girl or whether he just wants to take everything from the grandma. The woodchopper could represent the worker and the hero. The little girl and the grandma could represent the poorer part of society who need more care and looking after. The wolf and the girl characters are represented as ‘The BIG bad wolf’ and ‘LITTLE red riding hood’ which shows the authority between the two.
