A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR

Provide your children with a list of things that they are responsible for interspersed with things that they like to do—for example, make their beds, take out the garbage, go to the park, do homework, watch television, have a snack, feed the cat. The list should reflect their responsibilities and favorite recreations. Tell them to pretend that company is coming and ask which of the things listed should be done first. Explain that this is called setting priorities. Paraphrase the Gospel story for the children. Ask them what Jesus says is the most important thing for them to do. Jesus tells us that the number-one priority is to follow him. But just as it is not always easy to do the things we are supposed to do before doing the fun things, it is not always easy to be a follower of Jesus. Yet when we put Jesus first, we will be truly happy.

FAMILY CONNECTION

THE FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER…

We all know the importance of praying together as a family. We all know how important it is for us to share our hearts, in prayer, as a family. What I have been thinking about lately is about the im-portance of praying together as a parish family. As a particular family of faith we, as a parish, are united to one another by our baptism, faith, Sacraments, and the opportunities we have to come together in prayer. Sunday Mass, in particular, is the culmination of our prayer life together as a parish family. As a parish, the members of St. Michael’s are our immediate family members in the faith. Here at home, in Findlay, Ohio, we journey together week after week, year after year, decade after decade. We pray with each other and we pray for each other. As a family of faith we share our prayers, works, joys and sufferings. This is one of the many reasons why we gather at Eucharist every weekend. We share the ups and downs of life as we are nourished and strengthened by the Body and Blood of Jesus at Mass. And we strengthen, support, and encourage one another as we pray side-by-side. You have heard us say, as priests, that it’s important in a parish our size for everyone to find their niche. Like any family, we want everyone to feel welcome – and no one to feel left out or alone. We need our Lord – and we need each other. Every member of the Body of Christ is important. As St. Paul reminds us, “If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy” (I Cor 12:26). Outside of Sunday Mass there are a couple of easy ways for people to be with each other and to pray with each other. Lately, I have been reminding people of the importance of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesdays and Fridays in the Main Church from 8:00am – 8:00pm. I am so grateful that many are taking the opportunity to make a Holy Hour with our Lord – side-by-side with both their biologi-cal and parish family members. It is so nice to see people steeped together in silent prayer. Another easy way to pray together is to attend a daily Mass. In the Main Church we offer Mass on Monday-Friday at 7:00am and on Saturday at 8:00am. At the Downtown Church Mass is offered on Mondays and Wednes-days at 12:10pm. Please check the bulletin for scheduled school Masses which will be held at 8:35am this year – except on a couple of occasions when it is a Holy Day. Coming together, even one time a week for a daily Mass, is not only a great way to pray together, but to get to know our brothers and sisters in Christ who also call St. Michael the Archangel their home. Wishing our parish family a blessed and joyful week! In Christ, Fr. Mike

GROWING IN FAITH

Couples Corner

With another anniversary of 9/11

approaching this week, let’s

remember those individuals who lost

their lives on that fatal day.

Husbands, wives, mothers, fathers,

brothers and sisters and so on. Did

they hug or kiss their love one

goodbye that morning before

beginning their day? Did they hold a

grievance from a fight the night

before? Perhaps a husband and wife

prayed together for the last time, over

the phone in distress. Let us not take

for granted every minute we have

with our spouse.
