My friends in Christ:

WHAT IS HOLY WEEK?

Since the beginning of Christianity, Holy Week has been celebrated with a profound feeling of sanctity. The Lenten Season of sacrifice and self-denial is about to come to an end. It begins with Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, which marks Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This solemn celebration, which opens Holy Week, draws the Christian community into the Easter Triduum. This includes Holy Thursday, when we reenact the Lord’s Last Supper, followed by Good Friday, in which we enter into the Crucifixion of Our Lord and Venerate the Cross. The culmination of Holy Week is Easter, where we celebrate with great joy the Resurrection of Jesus, Our Savior.

In the early Church, all Christians participated in the special liturgical celebrations of Holy Week. This was “God’s time” and they didn’t let anything interfere with it. I know that we all have so many responsibilities and often find it difficult to reserve time for our spiritual lives, but I remind you that Holy Week is still “God’s time.”

I have attached the schedule below for the Sacred Paschal Triduum. Please consider attending as many liturgies as you can during this most holy week of the year:

THE SACRED PASCHAL TRIDUUM

HOLY THURSDAY – April 18, 2019 9:00 AM – Morning Prayer in Chapel

7:30 PM – Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper Adoration after Mass until Midnight with a Special Holy Hour from 11:00 PM to Midnight.

GOOD FRIDAY – April 19, 2019 9:00 AM – Morning Prayer in Chapel (Church remains open all day)

1:00 PM to 2:30 PM – The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confessions) 3:00 PM – Celebration of the Lord’s Passion with distribution of Holy Communion

7:30 PM Stations of the Cross

HOLY SATURDAY – April 20, 2019 9:00AM – Morning Prayer followed with the Blessing of Easter Food

Please Note: There is NO 4:30 PM Vigil Mass this day. NO Confessions on Holy Saturday 7:30 PM Solemn Easter Vigil Mass

Gifts made to the Catholic Charities Appeal support to a myriad of

organizations, programs and ministries throughout the Archdiocese of

Philadelphia. One of the beneficiaries is Souderton Adult Day Care Center.

St. Jude Parishioners, Pete & Nancy Smith and their family share their thoughts about their visit:

“This facility offered a place for an elderly family member to spend the day with qualified personnel who directed activities and entertainment to those who would otherwise be alone with no interaction with others. The giving and caring environment was so uplifting. We left this facility with a renewed appreciation for the need for the day-to-day care and mental and artistic stimulation crucial for their well being.”

This year, St. Jude parish plans three group visits:

Mercy Hospice Recovery Program Divine Providence Village

St. Mary’s Residence

To join us on these group visits: Sign – up on the sheets provided at the Church entrances or call the Parish Office (215-822-0179).

There are no group visits planned for our fourth venue, Martha’s Marketplace at Montgomery Co. Family Services (353 E. Johnson Highway, Norristown) where those suffering food insecurity are served. You can visit any Wed. or Thurs. in late May - early June from 5:30 – 7:30 PM.
