Lucas.
WELCOME BACK ST. LUCAS SCRIP GIFT CARDS We are
keeping on hand these gift cards from the scrip program: 4
Speedway, 4 Meijer, 4 Walmart, 6 Circle K, and 2 Manhattans in
$25 denominations. We are also keeping on hand 5 Kroger
cards in $50 denominations. If you would like to purchase for
your needs and to support the Sunday School Window Fund
email Pastor at [email protected] or call the office dur-
ing office hours 10-1pm M-F. We will arrange for you to pick up
your order & drop payment inside the Sunday School doors. If
you had been placing a regular order, you may call Ron Bacon
at 419-535-6765. He will place the order and get it to church for
you to pick up using same arrangement as above.
St Lucas Garden News To dine on what you’ve planted, to eat what you have grown,
To be fed by what you’ve nourished is a wondrous joy we’ve known.
Our God provides the soil, and sends the sun and rain,
And when we supply the toil, the land will bloom again!
The weatherman says Tuesday’s frost breaks the record for the lat-
est on record. Soil in the St Lucas Community Garden is struggling to
get up to 50°- the minimum soil temp for planting or transplanting. Our
Thrivent Grant plants, from the grant procured by Georgia Steele, have
arrived. We have 46 fruit trees and bushes and 6 grapevines to plant in
our food forests on Walbridge and Frank Street. We will have apples,
peaches, plums, cherries, mulberries, pawpaws, and figs when the
trees mature (2 to 3 years, typically) as well as hazelnuts, raspberries,
and red, white and blue grapes! The vegetables Toledo GROWS has
started are ready – I’ll pick them up on Thursday. Soooo – we’ll have a
lot of planting to do this weekend! I hope you’ll be able to join me – at a
Covid respectful distance – to help get this year’s garden in and grow-
ing. I’ll be in the garden, dodging raindrops as necessary, on Friday and
Saturday, plugging plants and seeds into the dirt! They're predicting
warmer weather this weekend, so please join me for some healthy,
socially-distanced outdoor exercise. It’s time to get the plants in and
growing!! I’m at 419-244-2243 or [email protected] if you want
more details. Agriculturally, Mike Biscay
OFFERINGS Please send us your offering, since
in-person church is not available at this time. You
may also drop off your offering when pastor is
there during the Cindy’s Corner hours (around
10:00-1:00). Call the office to let us know you are
coming 419-243-8189. Buzz the front door and we
will buzz you in to drop your offering inside the
door, then we'll come down and get it. Thanks to
the many who have mailed, dropped off or made
electronic offerings through our PayPal button
on our website: www.stlucastoledo.org.
PENTECOST RED GLADIOLUS SALE Pentecost is Sunday
May 31. We will be placing 24 vases of red gladioli on the altar
for a dramatic red flame look for Pentecost. The vases are $12
each. If you would like to memorialize or honor someone with
your flowers please email, [email protected], call the
office & leave a message, or include a note with your check in
the mail. Also let us know if you will be picking your flowers up
after on Monday after Pentecost or if you need them delivered.
HEALING PRAYER NIGHT is Tuesday, May 19 from 6-7pm.
Call a healing team member for prayer on the phone. Deb 419-
349-1815, Ed 517-673-3992, Jeannie 419-340-4003, Pat 419-
346-5752.
NEW FOOD PANTRY PROCEDURE Cindy’s Corner will now be
distributing food boxes Monday-Friday (once per week per
household) during the lunch at the door Noon to 1pm. There
will no longer be a separate distribution at on Thursdays from
1-2pm. Those who need a food box may ask for one at the
lunch distribution door on Frank St. This allows us to distribute
for immediate needs rather than asking folks to wait until Thurs-
day.

You do not need a Facebook account to bring up
our page online and view services. Facebook may
ask you to create an account, but you can say no.
HOLY COMMUNION PROCEDURE At each weekend
service you will be given the opportunity to receive the
Sacrament. After the prayers, peace and of-
fering we will sign off and post the first part of
the service on Facebook. Then we will sign
back on live and proceed with the Communion
liturgy. You will need to sign back on as well.
We will not post the Communion portion of the
service, so that the consecration will be live
only. You are invited to have a small amount
of bread and a small amount of wine (enough
to consume at once) prepared for the conse-
cration. Bread only suffices if you don’t wish
to receive the wine. Please do not substitute anything
for the bread and wine. Jesus promised to be present in
bread and wine, not any substitute. We take him at his
word and receive by faith.

ST. LUCAS THIS WEEK AT A GLANCE
WE GIVE THANKS to God for a great report
for April! Please continue to pray for our
stewardship. While this news is good, we
also must report a first quarter loss of
$52,120.06 to the modest amount we have
in the St. Lucas Salary Endowment Fund
due to stock market falls, lowering that fund
to $217,678.09. The fund was set up with a
bequest around the year 2000 with the idea
that it would supplement non-pastoral staff
salaries, since congregations like St. Lucas
often struggle in the area of support staff.
The principle amount is $200,000 and we
rely on any over that to cover year end defi-
cits, so your gifts to general fund creating a
surplus are a blessing. We are told that
since the end of the first quarter about
$11,000 has been recovered in the market.
God takes care of us and is good!
KROGER CARD REPORT Thank you for
using your Kroger card or keyring card when
you shop. Feb.-Apr. 53 households brought
us $181.08 for the Sunday School Window
Fund.
WRITTEN COPIES OF HOMILY AVAIL-
ABLE During the suspension of in person
worship written copies of the homilies will be
available. We already send to those not con-
nected to the internet. Just email or call the
office and we will email or mail a copy of the
homily you would like to receive. Available
from Easter Sunday on.
ALUMINUM CAN COLLECTION PROGRAM
TERMINATED Due to diminishing returns
and space concerns we will no longer be
collecting aluminum cans as a fundraiser.
Thanks to all who have supported this effort
over the years.
135th ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE 2021
will mark the 135th anniversary of the found-
ing of St. Lucas. We are putting together a
committee to plan events marking this
blessed event. So far, Sharon Stofan. Dave
Jerman. Mike Biscay and John Mensing
have volunteered to sit on the committee.
