DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY (FN)

13th July, 2020; Monday at 10:00am The Department of Psychology organised a Webinar on the topic - YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH! (To design your destiny) over the google meet platform. The resource person for the day was Ms. JAYAPRIYA M.S., a Reiki Certified Practitioner, NLP certified and Vipassana Meditator.

The event commenced with the welcome address given by Ms. Athiya Kabir. Then, Ms. JAYAPRIYA M.S. had discussed the power destiny which primarily dealt with how one is responsible and has the power to design their own destiny.

At the end of the session - The Head Of the Department, Dr. Waheeda Matheen shared her thoughts and thanked the guest of honour for making this program a success. The Webinar was concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Hajara Meher.

DEPARTMENT OF PLANT BIOLOGY AND PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY (FN)

The Department of Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology conducted an online webinar on 2nd July, 2020 for both staff and students of science departments including the Forenoon and Afternoon session of our college. Staff members, Research scholars and undergraduate students of Post Graduate and Research department of Zoology, Physics, Biochemistry, Chemistry and Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology departments participated from Forenoon session and Department of Microbiology students from Afternoon session. The topic of the webinar was “Oral Health Vs Covid-19” and the guest speaker was Dr. Syed Nafeez, Managing director DAWOOD DENTISTRY. The participants of the above-mentioned event were provided with e-certificates by the Department.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (FN)

The Department of Commerce conducted an intra departmental competition COMMERX-20 from 15th July 2020 to 20th July 2020. The events organised were Photography, Video Making, Poster Making and Creative Writing. The teachers in charge were Dr. Muhina, Mrs. Shameem, Dr. Rayeesunisa and Dr. Farida. 39 students participated in this event. The Judges for the competitions were Ms. Sahma Fuaad for Photography, Mr. Ameer Basha for Video Making, Ms. Dharani for Poster Making and Dr. S.Gayatri for Creative Writing. The results were announced through social media platforms on 25th July 2020 at 7.30 p.m. E-Certificates were provided to the winners and participants respectively.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (FN)

The Department of English organised a 3 day Online International Workshop for the UG & PG Students of English Department of JBAS College for Women from 20th to 22nd of July, 2020 through zoom platform. The workshop was on the topic “ESSENTIAL STUDY SKILLS”. The speaker of the workshop was Madam Atiya Bansal- writer, teacher, teacher trainer, director of Alef Academy.

The duration of each session was one hour, along with 100+ participants. The main objective behind the training workshop on “Essential study skills” is to make the students grasp and learn the study skills.

On day 1, the workshop was commenced with prayer by Sabha Sadullah of III B.A. English, and welcome address was delivered by Dr.Fathima Banu (the Head of the English Department).

The session focused on Essential presentation strategies - finding an area of communicative commonality, writing presentation speech, rehearsal & delivery of presentation.

On day 2, the session focused on Critical reading and strategies to become a critical reader.

On day 3, the session focused on Research skills and writing assignments. Overall, the workshop was a great success and it helped students to enhance their presentation skills and study skills.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY (FN) The Department of Chemistry conducted a webinar on 2nd July 2020 at 11:00 a.m. on the topic “AWARENESS ON COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY” (under DBT College scheme). The resource person was Dr. Mohammed Ibhrahim M, European Board-Certified Surgical Oncologist & Clinical Oncologist. Faculty members and various UG students registered for the webinar. The resource person highlighted the importance of being socially responsible and also knowledgeable about the corona pandemic. He also sensitized about the importance of washing our hands and use of face masks. The session was informative. E-Certificates were given to all the registered participants.

DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY (FN)

The Post Graduate & Research Department of Zoology conducted an online inter-departmental competitions (only for the life science departments) for the UG students under the DBT Star College Scheme headed by Dr.Mubeen Sultana.D, DBT coordinator of Post Graduate & Research Department of Zoology on 14th Tuesday, July 2020.

The topic for the E-poster making competition was “ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF COVID - 19”. The topic for the E-debate competition was “CURE FOR COVID 19-NATURAL REMEDIES Vs VACCINES”. The E-Debate event was conducted in the Google meet platform. The Results were announced on 15th, Wednesday July 2020. E-certificates were given to the winners and all the participants.

DEPARTMENT OF BIO-CHEMISTRY (FN)

The department of Biochemistry conducted an online inter-departmental e-poster competition for UG students under the DBT Star College Scheme from 9th July 2020 to 13th July 2020. The topics for the event were,

1. Challenges faced during COVID-19 lockdown 2. Influence of gadgets in lockdown 3. Post pandemic life

Totally 33 students participated. The results were announced on 28th July 2020. E-certificates were provided to all the participants.

The department also asked the students of Biochemistry to share their experiences and challenges faced during lockdown. The students shared their thoughts, emotions and expressions during the pandemic in the form of poem, art and creative writing.

DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE (FN)

The Department of Political Science conducted an online webinar on the topic "Success Tips to crack Civil Services, TNPSC, NET and other competitive examinations" for the students of Political Science department on 3rd July, 2020. The resource person was Dr. K. Senthil Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Politics and Public Administration, Alagappa University, Karaikudi. Faculty

members, Research Scholars, Guest Lecturers and students from other colleges participated in the webinar. The Resource Person highlighted the importance of Civil Service Examinations and also shared tips to crack other competitive examinations. The session was informative and enriching. E-Certificates were provided to all the participants.

DEPARTMENT OF HISTORICAL STUDIES (FN)

The Department of historical studies conducted a webinar on 16th July, 2020 at 11.00 a.m. on the topic “social – political identity of the Muslims in Tamil Nadu”. The speaker of the day was Dr. L. Selvamuthu kumarasami, M.A, M.Phil., Ph.D., Associate Professor and Head of Department of History, Presidency college, Chennai. Faculty members and students registered themselves for the webinar. E-certificates were given to all the registered participants.

The second webinar was conducted on 25th July, 2020 at 4.00 p.m. on the topic “Effective Time Management for Generation ‘Z’ Learners”. The speech was presented by Ms. Cynthia George, Assistant professor of French, Associate NCC officer, Public Relation officer, Providence college For Women Coonoor. Faculty members and students took part in the webinar. E-certificates were given to all the registered participants.

The Department also conducted an online E-Quiz on the topic “First women Achievers in India” on 18th and 19th of July,2020. E-certificates were given to the participants who secured 60% and above. Faculty members, Research scholars and students took part in the Quiz.

DEPARTMENT OF CORPORATE SECRETARYSHIP AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT (AN)

The Department of Corporate Secretaryship and Information Systems Management conducted an International webinar on ‘BUILDING RESILIENCE AND ANTI FRAGILITY IN SELF TO DEAL WITH CHALLENGING SITUATIONS IN LIFE’ on 13th July 2020 at 11 a.m. The Master of Ceremony for the day was Saafiya of B.com (CS) III year ‘B’ and the welcome address was given by Naveetha Kowser of B.com (CS) III year ‘A’.

The Chief guest for the day was Mr. Pradeep Prakash, Principal Consultant, Utsav Management Consultants. He spoke about how one must stay optimistic despite the hard times in life and how learning has no end in a person’s life. The meeting was conducted through the Google meet. The session streamed live on YouTube. The vote of thanks was given by Nazeehya Afreen of B.com (ISM) III year.

DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS (AN)

The Department of Statistics conducted a two-day national webinar on 18th and 19th July, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The webinar was about ‘DATA HANDLING USING MS EXCEL’. The Resource person for the day was Mr. Dhanasekaran Dhandapani, Senior Analyst, Finance Regulatory controller, Goldman Sachs, Bangalore. Mr.Dhanasekaran highlighted on how Excel is being used in the Statistics world and that there is more to explore. The workshop, on the whole, was an interesting and a useful one for the students.

DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM AND TRAVEL MANAGEMENT (AN)

A National level online quiz was conducted on the topic ‘ZOONOTIC IN COMMEMORATION OF WORLD ZOONOSES DAY’ on 6th and 7th of July, 2020. The Resource person for the quiz was Mrs. S.M. Asgari, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology.

A one-day webinar was conducted on the topic ‘EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT FOR GENERATION Z LEARNERS’ on 25th July, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The resource persons for the day were Dr. Mallika Begum and Dr. M.Deepa, Assistant Professors, Department of History.

The webinar revolved around the explanation of management of time for Z learners and they gave few tips for goal setting, organizing oneself, setting up boundaries, starting up important tasks and focusing on one task at a time. The meeting was conducted through Google meet. The session was an informative one for the students.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE (AN)

A national level e-quiz competition was conducted from 8th July, 2020 to 14th July, 2020. The students who scored 60% or more were issued e-certificates and proficiency certificates were issued to students who scored 60% or more in at least six subjects.

A webinar named “DON’T QUIT DO IT” took place on 20th of July, 2020 from 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The Resource person for the day was Dr. C.Aarti Rajaratnam, leading Clinical Psychologist and Author. The Prayer was rendered by Ms. Afrah and Ms. Afzah, II B.Com (General). The welcome address was delivered by Mrs. Hameedunissa, Head, Department of Commerce.

The webinar focused on three areas: Self-esteem, Relationship and Career. The motto was to help students deal with mental health during uncertainties like the Pandemic. The moderator for the webinar was Dr. Fahmeeda Yasmeen, Department of Commerce.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Papitha Anjum, Department of Commerce. The students were given participation certificates.

DEPARTMENT OF HOME SCIENCE INTERIOR DESIGN AND DECOR(AN)

The Department of Home Science Interior Design and Decor conducted an E-quiz on the topic ‘Interior design facts’ and E- certificates were provided to the participants who scored above 60%.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH(AN)

The Department of English conducted a literary quiz, “Quizlitt” based on some interesting literature facts. The online portal was open from the 18th of July to 31st of July. All students, research scholars and faculty members were invited to participate in the Quiz. E-certificates were given to all the participants who scored more than 40%.

PLACEMENT CELL

On 23rd July “Placement Cell” organised a webinar (COGNIZANT-soft skill) through the Cisco Webex App. The speaker for this Session was Dolly Mary Malkham. The duration of the session was one hour and around 420 students from our college attended the webinar. It was a useful session on upgrading Soft skills.

YOUTH RED CROSS (FN)

During this pandemic, our YRC volunteers from various places with complete safety measures had distributed hand sanitizers, masks and disinfectant solutions to the corporation workers, doctors, and others who are working hard to protect us and overcome this pandemic situation.

On 4th and 5th of July, 2020, YRC unit of JBAS conducted an online quiz competition on the topic “perceiving youth red cross”. Two hundred students had participated and were given e-certificates based on their scores through email.

CENTRE FOR WOMEN’S STUDIES(FN)

The Centre for Women’s Studies conducted a webinar on 2nd July about “CHALLENGES AND CHANCES FOR TODAYS’ WOMEN” through zoom platform. The resource person was Mrs. A. Vijayalakshmi, Psychological counselor and Patron, Yuva shakthi. There were about 100 participants from various colleges. The participants were informed about various problems and challenges faced by women today and in the covid situation. She also deliberated on the chances women get in order to be empowered. The participants were provided with E-certificates.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

On 1st of July 2020, the NSS unit of our college conducted a session on Cyber Security and User Privacy from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. organised by the NSS Secretaries.

The session was conducted online through the zoom platform. We had Mr. Riyaz Rafi, as our guest of honor, who is working as a cyber security and DevSecOps Engineer at a startup office called HIPPO VIDEO in Chennai.

This session was highly informative and useful as it covered all the negative aspects of technology and its development. The chief guest provided the students with optimum information on how to be aware of hackers and hacking. The participants learned the process of using their personal mobiles in a safer way and how to protect it. They were introduced to a new app which is used to notify whether one’s profile has been hacked in social networks and how to solve it. The session was followed by a question, answer session in which the volunteers cleared their doubts.

About 150 NSS volunteers including professors actively took part in this session. There were 943 participants registered, and those who were unable to enter the meet (due to the limitation of the app) were sent a video recording of the same. E- certificates were provided for all the participants.

LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTER(FN)

On 5th July 2020, Library and Information center organized an E-Quiz entitled “INFORMATION SOURCES AND RESEARCH METHODOLOGY”. Around 1650 participants attended the quiz. E-certificates were provided to the participants who obtained 50% marks.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS

“Tree plantation pakhwada”-An online event of making Video for creating awareness among the general public about the importance and conservation of trees was put forth by NCC directorate under ‘SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN'. Around 35 Cadets actively participated in the event. The video was of three minutes duration including the Artworks (Drawing, kerchief Painting, Face Painting), Poetry, Photography, Narration and a small initiative by cadets planting saplings around their homes. The video was uploaded in our official Instagram page @jbasncc on 14th July.

Our JBAS NCC Coy organised a ‘National level online Quiz on Defence Forces’ on 7th

and 8th of July. Around 200 participants attended the quiz and the participants who obtained more than 60% were provided E-certificates.

On 25th July, our first official parade of the year was conducted. This was the first virtual parade conducted in JBAS history. It was organised through Google meet and Our Associate NCC officer and 65 cadets attended the meeting. The Cadets were instructed about the upcoming parades. It was an interactive session where Senior cadets spoke about their Camp experiences and achievements and motivated the Junior cadets and the Junior Cadets raised questions about the Selection Camps. The Rank promotions were announced for the Third years Cadets.
