Calligraphy (from Greek: καλλιγραφία) is a visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a broad-tipped instrument, brush, or other writing instrument. A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as “the art of giv-ing form to letters in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner”.

What are the benefits of learning Calligraphy?

• Improves the mental health. It is Meditative and relaxing. It helps develops fine motor skills and memory retention. We cannot deny the fact that the lifestyle we all have adopted has some major distractions.

• Saves you money by doing it yourself. After learning this art of handwriting you will become independent in your own ways.

• Charismatic Effect.• Calligraphy is something you can learn at

any age.Calligraphy is an awesome hobby to adopt be-

cause it’s inexpensive, it’s creative and it can relieve stress. When you practice your letters, you’ll be able to concentrate on the activity at hand and other wor-ries will be pushed aside.

A Resident Calligraphy Instructor is needed to teach some classes on this art form in the Hobby Room twice a month. The maximum number of class participants is limited to eight Residents and will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you would like to Volunteer for the Resident Calligraphy Instructor position and teach the Callig-raphy Class, please call Ellen at extension 1743.
